Sonic The Hedgehog: Let’s start off with showing y’all the trailer shall we?

Well, where to begin? Well, firstly I’m so glad we the fans got a win because the original design for Sonic that Paramount was considering going with originally was Well horrible….take a look at that trailer…

Yes, u saw that right folks, sonic with ultra-realistic human teeth, normal human-sized eyeballs, and normal human-sized shoes…idk what the hell they were smoking over at paramount to think oh yes that’s a perfect design…luckily they listened to the complaints and redesigned him…

Also, they removed his white iconic gloves and made his hands white for some reason…..even though Sonic never had whirr fur on him, to begin with…..God this design was horrendous, here I’ll put a side-by-side comparison of the Ugly Sonic and the redesigned version…..it’s night and day how much they improved him after the backlash…

That was completely justified, also btw the fact that they gave him very skinny legs and arms to the point it looked more human is all sorts of unnerving, and also gave him fingernails….and human teeth, with an underlip…seriously I have to ask, who over at Paramount thought oh yes this is a perfect design for Sonic The Hedgehog, the fans will be happy…

Pfffft oh, I’m sure they absolutely were happy…..oh wait not!!!

BTW I have never seen anyone universally hate something together but it happened….everyone banned together, and made their opinions noticed about the Ugly Sonic design…..then came the unexpected tweet from Paramount…

“Thank you for the support. And the criticism. The message is loud and clear… you aren’t happy with the design & you want changes. It’s going to happen. Everyone at Paramount & Sega are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be… #sonicmovie #gottafixfast”

The day finally came, we the audience have won…..we repented that Ugly Sonic away…and the universe threw up as bone, Paramount actually listened…..what’s even more impressive is they did a full redesign of Sonic within the next 6 months before the film released…..

However a few weeks later they announced they were gonna take their time and make this correct…so they delayed the film from November 8th, 2019 to February 14th, 2020….u know before that whole Coronavirus incident……we don’t talk about that….

Everyone’s reaction to the delay was Unanimously understandable…..again I get that because they wanted to redesign him from scratch.

Also Secondly it’s thanks to this film I finally got invested in the Sonic The Hedgehog games….heck right after this film I went and bought the 2 Sonic Adventure Games…those are worth it, but that’s for another time…

Anyway, let’s get the rating out of the way so we can get into spoilers…..overall I enjoyed this film….It’s a fun good time, especially for the kids, also I loved Jim Carry as Dr. Robotnik……however, there’s one cringe-induced scene which I hate….I’ll point that out later…

Overall I’ll give this film a solid 7/10…warning spoilers ahead y’all been warned.

So in this film, we start off with Sonic as a small kid being sent away to Earth by his mother figure named Longclaw because his planet was being attacked.

So Sonic ends up growing up alone in a cave hiding away for the time being as he grows up, he does have a simple life of just enjoying himself.

He eventually grows up to be like idk 12 and is voiced by Ben Schwartz.

Anyway one day the government checks out a power outage that Sonic accidently caused, this gets the attention of Ivo Robotnik (played by Jim Carry), in this film he’s wearing all black, black gloves, a black trench coat, a handlebar mustache, some combed hair.

Nothing at all like the Dr. Robotnik we all know and loathe from the games, but throughout the 3 films, he will progressively becomes the Dr. Robotnik we all know and loathe.

Seriously nothing about this Dr. Robotnik looks like Dr. Robotnik. He looks like a generic black-coat villain from the early 2000s. As stated along with combed hair and handlebar mustache.

Btw this Dr. Robotnik is a know it all who doesn’t care about anyone, also he he is a high-tech egg-shaped robot. Also his gloves can act as a control panel and can scan things.

Anyway Sonic decides to hide with this guy named Tom, she’d in the backyard. He’s discovered by Tom and tranquilized by him after he screams.

But then he defends Sonic by telling him to go hide in the attic because Dr. Robotnik is walking up to him. He enters the house and uses his robots to scan the place, Sonic comes down and makes Robotnik scream.

So Tom punches him and they escape, which the entire 2nd half of this film just becomes a road trip film btw, anyways Agent Stone comes to help Robotnik. They get ahold of one quill Sonic left behind.

Which Dr. Robotnik picks up and puts the quill to his tongue which zaps him, btw This becomes a running gag throughout these films.

So Robotnik does some tests on the quill in his personalized tech truck. While he has his tech scan the quill he puts on headphones and in one of my favorite scenes of all time. Decides to dance to music.

Yes, y’all just heard me right and saw that correctly, Jim Carry just starts to ham it up by dancing all weirdly, turning on a hologram pretending his skiing down a mountain then pretending he’s running away from a dinosaur.

Robotnik: ahhhhhhhh!

Agent Stone: I was just wondering if u want a latte with Steamed Austrian Goat Milk?

Robotnik: what do I look like a doofus? OF COURSE, I WANT A LATTE! I LOVE THE WAY U MAKE THEM!

Anyway they catch up to Sonic, where Sonic uses his super speed to destroy the machine Robotnik sends out to them, then Sonic does the floss because ha ha funny. (I hate the floss).

Robotniks reaction is “OOHHHH! Give me a big fat break!” So let’s skip the entire middle act, so make their way back to Tom’s home where Maddie gets introduced to Sonic. At first, she’s freaked out a bit but Tom explains everything.

Oh and if ur wondering where Sonic gets his iconic red shoes, well just so happens that Maddie’s sister is there with her daughter and her daughter gives Sonic the shoes while Maddie’s sister is distracted without ever knowing a glowing blue Hedgehog is in the house.

Side note, Maddie’s sister for some reason hates Tom for absolutely no reason whatsoever. Don’t ask me why, the film doesn’t address it, also I don’t care about this character so there’s that.

Also, there are 3 advertisements for Olive Garden in this film, heck one person in this film says “Have u seen the endless breadsticks at Olive Garden? They are endless” Yes that’s real words that’s spoken in this film.

I’ll take this advertisement any day over the advertisement in the Wade Whipple show (yeah u heard me right I said what I said, it ain’t the Knuckles show, it’s the Wade Whipple show).

So now the 3 of them team up to take down Ivo Robotnik, they go downtown in New York and make it on top of a building where Ivo meets them in a drone ship, with his army of egg drones around him.

He’s now wearing a red and black suit which makes him look vaguely like his game counterpart. His eggs attack but Sonic uses his super speed to slow down time like he’s quicksilver, and then he takes out the droids with the missiles they are launching at them.

Anyway, he opens up multiple portals where he keeps on running away from these drones, he runs through the Great Wall of China and other places like that.

This feels like a nice way to implement the mechanism of Sonic games involving him just running straight ahead to collect rings, but instead here he’s running to go through rings.

Yeah, I may sound like a nerd when it comes to Sonic but remember I’m not a die-hard fan, I only got into Sonic games because of this film.

Anyway all seems lost, it’s night time and Sonic gets knocked on the floor. There’s some rubble, just then Tom pops out of a portal behind Dr. Robotnik’s ship and attack the ship, giving Sonic time to use his Sonic speed to ram into the ship which pushes Dr. Robotnik ans his ship through the portal.

Anyways happy ending, also Walter pays a visit to Tom, wanna know what he gives them for helping save the world? A coupon to Olive Garden, guess that’s how valuable their lives are for almost dying.

Lolo, good job I guess. Here’s a coupon to Olive Garden, hehehehehehe. And now Sonic has a family, the end. Now it’s time to talk about the 2 end credit scenes.

The first mid-credit scene is of Ivo Robotnik now bald, and having his iconic Dr. Eggman mustache, is walking off in a mushroom wasteland with that Sonic quill In a vile.
