Sonic The Hedgehog 3: Let’s start off with showing y’all the trailer shall we?

So where to begin? Well firstly can’t believe we’ve finally got a Trilogy of Sonic The Hedgehog films, I’m happy about that.

But also this Trilogy keeps getting better as it goes along, this without a doubt is the best Sonic film out of the Trilogy. Don’t get me wrong the first 2 aren’t bad, but the issue with the first film is it’s a generic road trip film doing nothing new.

The second film even though brings elements from the game series, did have a pointless wedding subplot that amounted to nothing, except be there for the human characters to have something to do.

Now come to this 3rd film, the human characters barely have much to do in this film, they get sidelined which is great. The film focuses more on Sonic and his 2 friends Knuckles and Tails.

Also, this film takes massive inspiration from Sonic Adventures 2, which is such an amazing game btw I highly recommend playing that game, especially if y’all want to know about Shadow The Hedgehog.

Speaking of that another reason why this film is great, we get introduced to Shadow The Hedgehog in this film, he’s a popular character within the Sonic franchise.

Also this time around he’s voiced by Keanu Reaves, I love the actor so I’m glad he got to join the Sonic universe. In my opinion, he does a perfect Shadow The Hedgehog interpretation.

Also, this film brings back Jim Carry as Dr. Robotnik, even though he said he was gonna retire. Guess that money spoke more to him than anything, but we don’t just get one performance by Jim Carry.

In this film he plays 2 roles, he plays Dr. Robotnik and Gerald Robotnik. Dr. Robotniks grandpa, he’s an essential character to Shadow the Hedgehog in the games.

In the game he’s the one who built Shadow, for u see Shadow in the games is a clone of Sonic. But in this film, they changed his origin. Instead in this film, he’s an alien that landed in a meteor-like 50 years before Sonic came to Earth.

This change was necessary because something wouldn’t line up if he was a clone of Sonic. After all, in this movie universe, Sonic comes to Earth I’m 2018. So how would Shadow be a clone of Sonic before Sonic came to Earth?

Better yet how would the humans know of a Sonic to make a clone of him, so yeah that change was necessary. Btw heads up Shadow’s story is a tragedy. His story involves a girl named Maria Robotnik.

She’s Gerald Robotniks granddaughter, spoilers in the game the agency G.U.N well guns her down right in front of Shadow, so now he’s vengeful against humanity. How does this film change that slightly well gets into the spoiler discussion? But just thought I’d warn u that there’s a sad element to this story.

Now is this film flawless? No, unfortunately, there are some jokes that don’t work. Mainly from Sonic, for some reason in this film every Quipy one-liners he does it never works. It just comes off as cringe and annoying. Really the only funny people in this film were Jim Carry and Knuckles (Voiced by Idris Elba).

Both of them got me to laugh, while Sonic made me groan, I mean let me give y’all an example of his Quipy jokes. There’s this scene in the beginning where they are hired by G.U.N to fight against Shadow who’s in Tokyo.

So they fly the trio there via a helicopter, when they get there before the trio jumps out of the helicopter Sonic says “What a terrible flight, I mean no food no service, we’re out of here” (groan).

Tell me did u laugh at that joke? If u did then this film might be up your alley, if u didn’t then yeah get ready for jokes like that. Also for as serious and dark as this film is (yes this is the darkest Sonic film out of the Trilogy because it deals with Shadow). The film decides to give Shadow a joke line.

I’ll spoil that line here, there’s this scene where Dr. Robotniks sidekick Agent Stone has to kinda babysit Shadow. He says to Shadow I got avocados on board the crab ship we can make guacamole, and then Shadow responds by saying “Revenge Guac” (sigh).

Get it because everything to him is about Revenge, ha ha ha I’m laughing. Also although the end fight is epic, it does cut back to a very cartoony fight that kinda messes the momentum of the serious fight going on.

Also, this film had to remind me of Wade Whipple. Thanks, film I didn’t want to remember him but thanks for reminding me he still exists.

If u don’t know what I have against Wade Whipple I recommend checking my review out on The Knuckles TV Show. Anyways so overall I’ll give Sonic The Hedgehog 3 a solid 9/10. If y’all are a Sonic fan then I highly recommend this film.

Also out of all 3 of these films, this is the most mature out of the Trilogy. I have massive respect for the director, he’s willing to make this series mature and treat its audience with respect.

Warning spoilers ahead y’all been warned.

So this film opens up with the G.U.N military watching over Shadow The Hedgehog, who’s in deep sleep in a container. But all of a sudden he wakes up and breaks free from the glass.

He breaks out and beats up the men and escapes to Japan. I got to say I love the way Shadow runs, when he runs it looks like he’s skating. They actually tie that in with his backstory in this film and it is emotional in a way.

So G.UN goes and asks the Sonic trio to come and help them. Unfortunately, they are out in the woods celebrating Sonics birthday that Tom, Maddie, Knuckles, and Tails threw together for him.

Also their pet dog barks ans it translated to “U stole the love away from me” heheheheh.

Enjoyment is over it’s time for work Sonic, so the 3 of them head out on a helicopter to go to Japan to help them with their issue which they don’t know what the thing they are about to fight is.

Anyways he tells that awful joke “Talk about low budget flights, no food or movies. We’re out of here” unfortunately that line is from Sonic Adventures 2 so this game really is faithful to that game.

So they jump down into action, they meet Shadow The Hedgehog (who is voiced by Keanu Reaves) has a back-and-forth with Sonic. Both wonder why one the other looks exactly like the other.

“Ur a colorful bunch” Anyway Knuckles tries attacking Shadow but he’s way too strong. He overpowers Knuckles and beats him up, yikes.

He then beats up Sonic, Shadow then gets on a motorcycle and picks up a plasma gun, eeeeeeeek he did the thing!

So he rides off while Sonic is chasing him. “U know the more u talk the harder I want to hit u” Lolo got to love Shadow.

Also, we get a cool shot of him riding the motorcycle up a building. They both get into a fight but it ends with Sonic losing.

The gang catches back up to him, they then head to a Japanese Cafe, where Tails is mistaken by kids as Detective Pikachu.

Kids: are u Detective Pikachu?

Knuckles: ha ha ha, u do look like a Pokémon, Pika Pika.

Lololo got to love knuckles.

Then Commander Walter shows uo, and he explains to them about Shadow.

He when he was a younger agent he worked for the organization that kept Shadow in confinement. How Shadow came down from an asteroid 5o years ago, how Shadow befriended the main scientist’s niece named Maria.

They did stuff together, she was the only one who treated Shadow as a human. Heck she taught him to skate with Rollerblades. Awwwwww, so him running is a constant reminder and nod to his beloved friend who cared so much about him.

But one day Maria, her grandfather, and Shadow break out to escape because the agents decide to try to shoot them to kill them because they were gonna kill Shadow but they saved him.

Unfortunately, while Walter tries to get his men to not shoot them because there’s a kid, they end up accidentally shooting an explosive barrel which causes her death anyway. Shadow became vengeful so they decided to arrest the scientist, and lock Shadow away in a tube.

Just then Robotnik droids come in and attack, one of them shoots and kills Walter. Yes, this is a kid’s film, just then a mysterious figure dressed in all black on a motorcycle comes in and destroys the robots.

Spoilers it’s Agent Stone, or as Knuckles says at the docks when they catch up with him “Ahhhh, it’s goat milker!”

BTW now the G.U.N agents are after Sonic and his friends because they believe he killed Walter, why? Who knows why? But remember in Sonic Adventures 2 Sonic was also framed but for a slightly different reason which involved Shadow.

Hahahaha, he takes them inside his crab mech where Robotnik is sitting watching a romance series all while his big gut is bulging out of his shirt. He also has long hair, he starts slamming on his gut as a drum and when he notices Sonic is there he screams.

BTW a minor issue but I feel as this franchise continues, Robotnik will stop acting less like Dr. Robotnik and more like Jim Carry, the first film nailed down that Dr. Robotnik persona, minus the look. But by the second film he’s flossing and making Goofy faces.

Nothing here really changes either, well except he doesn’t floss in this film finally.

Anyways, Stone says u got guests Robotnik which then he says no really? I thought my agent let in my sworn enemy right behind me! So they decide to team up once Robotnik learns someone is using his robots.

BTW if ur wondering how Robotnik survived the ending of Sonic 2? Well, there’s this deleted scene that explains how.

I wish they kept this in, it makes more sense, felt like something was missing. Essentially Agent Stone found him with his bones all broken and he healed him back up by nurturing him. Now Ivo is no longer a villain, just a blogger instead. Btw anything tying him to being a blogger is cut out of this film. Ne never once blogs except in the deleted scenes.

Which if u ask me I’m glad they got rid of that, it would have ruined the flow of the film if he kept pulling his phone out and live-streaming things.

Anyways, he gets shaved and dressed up, they head out to where the detection was coming from when they scanned areas, it’s an abandoned military base.

They get inside and split up, Knuckles seems a bit worried because they joke saying this place is haunted, which he says no one said ghosts will be here. Wanna know why he’s scared? It’s not because ghosts are there it’s that he’s afraid of a friendly ghost.

Say what now? Yeah, he watched Casper the Friendly Ghost and we get a backflash of him screaming. His explanation is “There are no friendly ghosts”.

So what do they find in this building? Well, Robotnik finds his grandpa who he never heard of.

His grandpa Gerald Robotnik played by Jim Carry as well,

They put both hands up and there’s a meta joke they both say “It’s like we’re the same person being played by one actor” Oh hahaha

Robotnik: it can’t be

Gerald: is it?

Robotnik: can’t be

Gerald: shouldn’t it?

Robotnik: papa?

Gerald: in the saggy flesh

Lolo, but also Robotnik tests Gerald to make sure they are related, but they do look identical. The only difference is Gerald is 110 years old, yikes.

Then he himself pulls out a Shadow quill and licks it because I guess this shock fetish just runs in the family.

He then explains he had been in prison for 50 years and the only reason they let him out was because he promised to give them access to a machine he was working on.

Oh also Shadow and Gerald are working together, Shadow captures the gang and ties them up. Both Robotniks leave with Agent Stone along with Shadow onto the crab machine.

Robotnik says thanks for this adventure, it really did help me out, which Sonic says and u wonder why I have trust issues!

Anyways Shadow leaves them a gift which is a small ball that opens up a black hole, they then use a portal ring to escape to Tom’s house.

Both Tom and Maddie seem bored out of their minds, they are doing mundane things. Tom has built a hand puppet of himself named Mini Tom, and both of them knitted each other coats.

As soon as they come in and say they need help they both get up and say yes of course. They make a plan to go stop the Robotniks from breaking into this highly protected G.U.N building in London, because inside Is this key that the Robotniks are after.

This key along with a key Gerald already has will power up the mechanism he has hidden underneath that place. The Robotniks get there so they are ahead of schedule, so they both have some quality bonding time in VR which we see a montage of them doing things like teaching Ivo to bike ride.

Both them getting cotton candy and all that, while Agent Stone is waffling them sadly wishing he’d get some love from Robotnik and be treated as a friend. Anyway they get out of the crab ship and both Robotniks plan to make it inside.

While Shadow and Stone stay behind. Stone says I got some avocados on the ship we can make some guacamole? Which then Shadow responds by saying “Rwvenge Guac” (womp womp).

Seriously who thought should be a good idea to give Shadow a comedic line? As for Sonic and the team Sonic is waiting on the Ferris wheel, Knuckles is waiting in case he needs to punch stuff, and Tails is hacking into the mainframe.

Both Tom and Maddie walk in with G.U.N outfits and holographic faces of Maddie sister and her ex-husband. Seriously why? And yes these 2 characters are hated. So why bring them back?

So they sneak inside past security, they try to make their way to the panel room to hack into the mainframe to allow Tails to do his work.

Just as they are about to make it into the room, the lead female G.U.n agent is about to walk by and their hogram masks are off so they turn theirs on but Tom’s is acting up, it makes his face all cartoony and all that. He gets slapped which fixes it.

They get in there and put in their hard drive but then notice a Robotnik hard drive in there as well, uh oh.

Anyways both Robotniks sneak their way into the place, they tear off their clothes which reveals a bright red and black, tight uniforms underneath to protect them.

They get to the laser hallway, and Robotnik shoves Gerald into it which the lasers don’t do any damage to him. It all aims directly towards the clothing, yeah Robotnik made these suits to be durable to lasers and attract lasers away from the skin surface. I wasn’t sure it would work till now.

Gerald: ur a heartless son, rotten to the core, I’m so proud. So now we can dance right through.

Yes, u heard that right dance through.

Robotnik: My Finger is on the button

Gerald: Push the button

I’m telling u that line is gonna live rent-free in my head forever, this dance scene is of course Goofy. This is a call back to his dancing in the first film.

Anyways they make it inside, and Sonic shows up. Just then red lights appear under both Robotniks which drag them onto the ground and green light appears under Sonic which turns off gravity.

The female agent comes in to tell them that they are trapped and this room has suction power and anti-gravity, just then Ivo says I can’t believe it.

Which in a funny outdated line Gerald says “I know right son, a woman in the army” and gasps it’s confirmed Gerald has taken the red pill.

So then the rest of the team shows up so do some guards they all get sucked onto the floor except Sonic and Tails and some of the guards. They try to grab the key but it falls on the floor, Ivo tries to move to grab it but the female G.U.N agent grabs it and leaves.

So then the walls start falling near Tom and Maddie, so Sonic has to turn off the power In the room to save them.

BTW perfect time to bring up some deleted scenes from this film, in this montage clip of deleted scenes I’m about to show. There’s a clip of both Robotniks getting up and Ivo is talking to his followers on a camera, Which he says someone in the comments named at Zitb Poppin says the museum of ancient history called, they want their fossil back.

Which then Gerald grabs the camera and well firstly here’s the clip (be warned of the first deleted scene it shows some montage of their bonding together that turns sour and there’s a jump scare, no idk why they even considered putting a jump scare in a kids film).

“Oh yeah At Zitb Poppin, if I’m a fossil then ur mom is a paleontologist cuz she digs me. And ur gonna be living in her basement until ur 45!”

Oh that’s a great comeback, I wish that scene didn’t get deleted. I understand why that creepy jumpscare scene got deleted but this? Why did this scene get deleted?

Anyway so Tom gets the key back by turning himself into General Walter, but Shadow sees him and mistakes him for the real Walter.

So he knocks Tom out, unfortunately, this almost kills Tom to the point he gets hospitalized, yikes yeah this film wasn’t afraid to go that far. Because usually in kid’s films the humans would just get off, shrug it off, and continue with their day.

But nope not here we’re adding emotions and realism, Shadow realizes this wasn’t Walter and he seems kinda ashamed. But he instantly shrugs it off and says “u shouldn’t have got in the way”.

Oh snap, anyways this angers Sonic because Tom could die for all he knows, spoiler alert he doesn’t. So Sonic demands that Knuckles tells him where the Master Emerald is at because he’s gonna use it to kill Shadow.

That’s right Sonic gives into ur anger and feel the dark- oh sorry wrong franchise, Knuckles feels betrayed by Sonic because they swore an oath to protect the Emerald and for it to never be used, but he says I also made an oath to trust in friends.

But know this Sonic it’s being held by a fearsome warrior who knows no fear, it’s Wade, isn’t it? Yep, it’s Wade. Of course, is damn Wade, and we see him on his roof playing hockey with himself using the Emerald. Because he’s an idiot, and Sonic easily takes it from him.

Well bye Whipple, I never cared about u, so now Gerald Robotnik’s plan starts going into motion, this giant floating mechanism with a laser holster at the bottom of it comes out of a secret bunker under the base. It goes up to space.

It grows out eyes and a giant mustache because I guess the tacky Robotnik face design on all the mechs just runs in the family gean pool?

BTW Gerald shows Ivo 2 suits he’s made, 1 for Ivo and one for Gerald. Now Ivo has the iconic Dr. Eggman outfit. The red jacket, with black pants, gold buckles and white gloves.

While Gerald’s outfit is same fabric and style but it’s white with black pants.

Gerald has Shadow power the machine by running around in circles in the sphere to create an electric field to power it up so they can power up the laser, it’s what Maria would want.

Dr. Robotnik finds out that Gerald plans to destroy the whole planet right after Agent Stone tries to call him up and warn him. Ivo is revolted because he doesn’t want the planet to be destroyed.

But Gerald plans to destroy the planet including themselves, the blast will kill them as well, Ivo says we can work together be a family. We got each other now, and Gerald looks at Ivo with a cold dead expression and says “Oh Ivo, ur no Maria” ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

“When Maria was taken from me, my entire family was gone that day” Wow so Gerald is more evil than Ivo, he manipulated his grandson to do his bidding just so he could blow up the planet including both of them.

So Ivo changes sides and attacks Gerald, and then Gerald uses his nano gloves to create a giant fist, which Ivo says oh nano gloves. I’ve not seen those since I hate watched Green Lantern back in 2011.

“I was saving this for Comic Con, but now there won’t be a Comic Con!” He then slaps Ivo.

So this entire fight scene does cut back and forth to Sonic and Shadow fighting, their fight scene is epic. They run so fast that they run around the planet then they shove each other onto the moon and start fighting on the moon.

Sonic uses the Emerald and becomes Super Sane just like in Sonic 2, where he’s now glowing yellow. Unfortunately, Shadow grabs it too and becomes Super sane, his colors are white and maroon dark pink for some reason.

Ohhhhhhh epic, they both fight all Superpowered, Shadow taunts Sonic by saying “I thought u cared about that human, what was his name again? Oh right Tom” Ohhhhh that’s a new low even for u.

After they fight they both calm down and Sonic gives Shadow a chance to help save the day to stop the machine from destroying the earth, he says look around Would Maria want this?

Shadow realizes what he’s done was wrong so he and Sonic team up, they go Super Sane again and fly towards the Robotnik ship.

Back with both Robotniks, we get the goofiest fight. Gerald is slapping Ivo’s butt with his nano hand.

He then turns his arms into a scorpion and grows a tail, Ivo tells his nano glove to set up a defense, which it spawns in a fence with a mailbox “Darn u auto correct!” Hahahahah.

So he turns his arms into Mantis arms and they start fighting, he slices off one side of Gerald’s mustache and Ivo says “Ha now that’s what I call Mantis Scaping” “That’s elder abuse!”.

The fight ends with Ivo hanging on a railing and being kicked off into outer space, Gerald turns around and is ready to continue his plan. Just then a portal opens up with Tails and Ivo holding onto Tails, sith Knuckles holding onto Ivo.

Ivo grabs out his glowing yellow quill and says “Who said life is meaningless? Oh right, u did” Then he shoves the quill up Gerald’s butt which causes a fart nose and causes Gerald Robotnik to be launched up in the air whiles he’s screaming “Ahhhhhhhhhh!” Then the electricity field essentially just kills him. Not with an explosion or him blowing up.

No, just a small zap noise, u know like a fly to those zap traps. Ok, I’m mixed on that ending, on one hand, I love that they killed off Gerald and wasn’t shy about killing him off.

But on the other hand, they kill him off via a fart joke, that’s just sighhhhh.

BTW in the game Gerald’s death is different, firstly he’s not alive at the same time as Ivo Robotnik is. Gerald was executed live on TV by G.U.N, he was given final words and was executed.

That’s an extremely dark side to the Sonic lore, but I understand the changes needed for this film. They wanted to have Gerald alive with Ivo, and I got to be real it worked out. Just wish this film’s death scene wasn’t as Goofy.

Anyways so the laser is close to activating. So Ivo, Tails, and Knuckles start pulling at the lever to move the ship over while both Sonic and Shadow help push the ship from the outside.

Anyways they move the laser and it instead cuts straight across the lower part of the moon, eeeeek they did the thing. Dr. Robotnik pissed on the moon (as it’s referred to in the game).
That’s right the moon gets a slice cut off of it, Dr. Robotnik says look at what y’all did.

Just then they see Sonic falling down back into earth atmosphere, he’s unconscious. Shadow shows up inside the mech, both Tails and Knuckles use their last portal ring to go save Sonic.

Tails fails because he ends up fainting during mid air fall, so Knuckles comes and saves them and throws the portal so they land threw it on the floor safely.

Now all is left is for Dr. Robotnik and Shadow to save the earth from the mech blowing up near earth, the ship Is about to explode and cause a black hole uh oh. So Shadow has to go outside and push the mech slightly further away from earth.

So Dr. Ivo Robotnik uses one of his robots to send a live stream out on the screen down on earth.

“If I can’t rule the world! I might as well save it!”

Ladies and gentlemen, I wasn’t expecting to feel emotional at this scene. He did the thing of broadcasting himself on live TV but this time they put emotions behind it so now I am feeling something.

He says this goes out to Agent Stone, u were more then a sicko fan, u were a sicko friend. U were the only one who cared about me, I’ll miss ur Austrian Goat Milk I love the way u make them.

The thing exploeds and a black hole appears, awww man poor Dr. Robotnik, anyways happy ending.

How does this film end? It ends with Sonic doing a rematch od a race between Tails and Knuckles did with him in the beginning to distract him to get him into the woods for his birthday surprise.

They used holograms to cheat and distract him, so now he wants a rematch so that’s how it ends.

Also Sonic learns to be a team, this whole film he wants to call the team “Team Sonic” Knuckles wants to name it “Team Knuckles” so Sonic says what If we just call it “Team”.

Hey that’s a fair trade off, anyways time for the 2 end credit scenes, first one is of Sonic realizing he ran to far and landed in New York city woods somehow.

Just then Metal Sonic shows up behind him, wooooohoooo! Then Sonic beats him but then 7 other Metal Sonics show up, then all a sudden a hooded figure shows up.

They pull the hood down and it’s Amy Rose, yes her that pink furred one. Woooohoooo! And she has her hammer!

The second end credit scene is of this hole in the floor with Shadows gold ring brace on the floor and we see him walk up to it ans grab it to pick it up, woooohooooo! Shadow is still alive.
