I want to start off with firstly showing yall the trailer….and giving a massive spoiler warning …….so here’s the trailers

Warning  there’s gonna be massive spoilers for this film….so if yall want to go watch this film instead of it being spoiled then u can leave now ..but if not then thanks for sticking…

So the plot of this film is….we got this mysterious killer named the riddler, who’s going around killing people he’d consider corrupt……we get to see the first kill of a guy who was running for president…he was just in his house at night in the dark watching the news…while the riddler is standing behind him in the dark, no idk how he doesn’t even feel a presence behind him but still….then the riddler lunges at him starts htti g him on the head with a carpenters tool….yeah I still don’t understand why he’s using that as a tool…..also here we get to see the riddlers attire, his outfit in this film is heavily influenced by the zodiac killer…the zodiac killer attire was a back sack over head, pair of glasses, black jacket with a symbol on it….riddlers attire in this film is a dark green leather like mask witj pair of glasses, a dark green jacket with a question mark symbol on the side of his chest….oh and black cargo pants, black gloves….yeah this isnt ur typical veraion of the riddler….thats for sure…..anyways so he takes a role of duct tape out and we don’t see it but off screen he proceeds to tape the guys entire face up…cut thr guys thumb off…..put his hand in a bag, lay the body on the couch oh and writes in red the words no more lies…on the guys duct taped face….jeeez this is dark wouldn’t yall say? Oh and minor thing tbis film opens up on Halloween night so I guess this is a Halloween film lolo….so batman comes to the scene of the crime…there is lieutenant Gordon (played by Jeffrey Wrights, great actor btw), also the other cops are there locking the crime scene up…taking photos of the crime scene…..anyways the cops don’t want batman there because he’s a vigilante….plus the commissioner comes in and tells Gordon he wants batman out of there because he’s a vigilante…..but unfortunately batman got a note from the riddler that was left at the crime scene….its a riddle, so he solves it…the riddle basically was he still lies…..this is a perfect time for me to mention I don’t really like the riddles in this film…they kinda idk feel like not as hard or complex as the riddles in batman forever but that’s my opinion….there complicated don’t get me wrong just not as much as the riddler been known to…….so after this batman leaves he goes back the batcave we now see he’s played by Robbert Patterson of all people….yeah sigh quick rant…before this film came out and I heard about the casting I was like seriously Robbert Patterson as batman? Seriously? Twilight boy?…..yeah safe to say I had no hopes…before u say but Jarrod he played Cedric in Harry Potter 4 and he was good there…I don’t care…I didn’t really care much for Cedric nor the actor…I still saw him as Twilight boy….but after watching batman all I can say is this oh boy we need more of him as batman…he does a phenomenal job…this batman is different from ur usual batman…he isn’t the batman who fights with confidence…nah this is his second year of crime fighting so he’s kinda still new….plus Bruce Wayne in this film is basically a brooding emo guy…..who depressed, which makes sense because he lost his parents as in they died…..alao we barley see Bruce Wayne in this film because he doesn’t want to be Bruce Wayne…he wants to be batman….so he’s still has much to learn…alao here we see Alfred played by Andy Serkis…great actor btw….he did body movement and voice for Gollum, Ceaser from planet of the apes….Supreme leader Snoke in sequel trilogy of star wars…he’s alao recently in the andor show that came out which I’ll be writing a review for in December..but still great actor…..he wants Bruce to be Bruce, to carry on his families name…but unfortunately here emo Wayne here is like uhhh well I don’t care to…besides I’m living up to my parent name…by crime fighting..uhhhhggg…..unfortunately around this time batman and Gordon locate a car in a parking garage….and how did they know to look through this car…easy because it had a gardening tool lodged in the tire for some reason…they look in the front seat area and locate a USB…Here they find out this riddler dude has a sense of humor…he put the majors missing thump on it…which batman pulls out the USB and says to Gordon…”thumb” drive…….pffff ok well that’s funny…so then they go through a computer..they put the USB in it..but it requires a pass code..but turns out it requires a finger print which the USB has a finger print thing on it…so of course they use the thumb and it works…ok that’s clever also Gordon says gee isn’t this guy funny?….do on the USB they find images of the penguin played by Collin Ferral….do me a favor yall look up batman 2022 the penguin u won’t recognize its him…they put so much makeup on him it’s amazing and remarkable….standing next to him is a woman played by Zoe Kravitz…there standing in front of thr iceberg lounge……batman goes there, but he fights his way into it because guards trying to fight him to stop him….luckily penguin shows up tells him to calm down they can talk like professionals….well u can tell when batman is going way to overboard….when a criminal is telling batman to calm down…u should know batman is unhinged…..he shows penguin the pictures…he says he doesn’t know the second girld in the image…yeah there 2 girls in the image….guess who enters the room a woman named Selina…played by Zoe……so batman follows her back to her apartment here we find our she’s wearing a wig…and living with a woman friend of hers…..he asks her for her help…she obliges to…..so batman puts a contact in her eye that works as a camera…he wants her to go inside and get info…she goes in and here we see cops on there off time…batman is under suspension that these cops are corrupt…he has a theory ill say he is correct…..she decides to go to the restroom and take the contact out because she’s done helping because batman kept asking her to ask those cops multiple questions…..unfortunately around this time the commissioner shows up dead….with a video tape…the video is of the riddler showing the kidnapped commissioner tied up in a dark room with a makeshift rat trap tied around his stomach….the trap there for the rats to borrow there way into the commissioners stomach and eat him from inside out…uhhhh ok that’s horrifying…this seems like something out of saw…so him and Gordon examine his body in the morgue….. and find another letter…it says La Ratta….which means the rat…so batman assumes there’s a metaphorical rat amongst them they need to locate…..I need to quickly mention batman needs to go back to iceberg lounge because he wants to question the guy in charge who is named Carmine Falcone played by John Turtorro…of all people….if anyone who’s reading this don’t know who he is….Carmine is a mob boss…..anyways so Selinas friend goes missing so she goes and asks batman for help….he offers his help if she can also help him so they both team up again…..batman goes back questions penguin…..he says he doesn’t know about anything that happened to that woman…..he says if I know ur lying ill be back and beat u up…..around this time another cop gets kidnapped by the riddler…we see this cop named Colsin enter his car at night..where riddler is sitting in the backseat…he knocks the guy out then proceeds to put a bomb collier around his neck…next day there’s a funeral for the major dude….Bruce Wayne shows up even Carmine and penguin….to pay there respects…..also the fute major who’s running shows up…tells Bruce Wayne he should do more to help the city because from what she can tell he is doing nothing…..…oh how little does she know lolo…anyways so as funeral about to start… a car comes crushing in and guess who steps out…Colsin…he has a bomb around his neck, mouth taped up….phone taped to hand….note taped to stomach…so everyone evacuated the building leaves the guy there sitting on a chair….waiting for bomb squad to come…a rover comes in with a camera to check on him…batman comes in…..answers the phone that’s ringing…riddler is on the screen…he’s live on every TV…broadcasting this…he telling everyone….that this guy deserves to die…BTW here we see how unstable the riddler is…colsin says Jesus man plz get someone here to help me out he’s gonna kill me…riddler runs up to camera and yells out SHUT IT U DESERVE TO DIE AFTER WHAT U DONE…U HEAR ME!!!……christ dude calm down……he tells the dude I’m gonna give u a way out..u answer my riddles …3 of them and I’ll give u code to release ur self….so he asks 2 riddles batman gives him the answers….unfortunately third riddle is of him asking Colsin to list all the cops who are corrupt and helping Carmine…so colsin refuses to because he knows he’s good as dead…so the bomb explodes ans dies…batman gets blown backwards…wakes up in JCPD surrounded by cops…huh?..how did he survive that without no burns? Furthermore why he there instead of a hospital?….he wakes up surrounded by cops….Gordon tells the officers to leave he will get batman to talk….so then Gordon ans batman start whispering…he tells Gordon that the cops here are corrupt that it’s hard to trust who’s not corrupt or not…Gordon says the only one I trust is u, he tells batman he’s gonna need to leave…so he should punch him make it look like he put up a fight….batman does that starts running while the cops chasing after him…batman grapples up to the top of the JCPD…..oh ans here we get the most realistic batman gliding sequence…he turns his cape into a glide suit the one u see people using to glide down mountains like that….this was clever in my opinion….so he starts gliding down then pulls a parachute out but then proceeds to smash against a bridge then a car….without getting any injuries, somehow….so now with this info he and Gordon decide to follow some those corrupt cops to wherever they go at night…they follow them to a dock with other cars, there is the penguin…with his goons and bags of money…..also catwoman is there for some reason…batman bumps into her she says Carmine owes me that money so she opens up the car trunk opens a bag up assuming money is in it but instead they find her friend’s lifeless body in the bag….ohhhhh well I guess this explains what happend to her…..then Gordon starts shooting while behind a car…so gun shooting starts happening, batman gets into his batmobile and here’s where we for the first time see the batmobile….its a normal looking muscle car painted black, with a engine on the back that boosts the car fast….yeah talk about a different type of batmobile…so then penguin gets into a car then batman chases him down….Selina grabs one of the money bags from one of the corrupt cops and leavs…we then get like a few min car chase scene….and how do I say this I think batman accidentally killed 2 people…..penguin makes sure he knocks over 2 gasoline tank trucks over, which batman rams throw both of them which leads to both vehicles exploding….yeah I think batman u may have killed someone…..whoopsie…..he then rams into penguins car knocking it upside down….then he takes penguin somewhere where him and Gordon question him…they find out 2 things 1. He isn’t the rat there looking for… and 2. The riddler misprint a word….its El rata not La rata…penguin corrects them on that…..batman pulls up computer messages riddler he says to batman ur not getting the full picture I’m gonna need to show u more….so he tells batman where to go, they both get there investigate they find a projector which tells batman the next riddle he figures out the next riddle is meant for Bruce Wayne…yeah the riddler wants Bruce Wayne dead…ohhhh yikes btw also with the projectors Here we find out that Bruce Wayne mother in this film universe had mental illness, which Mr Wayne tried putting that under wraps…so batman drives back home fast to warn Alfred because he’s there and Bruce Wayne isn’t…but uh oh unfortunately he doesn’t make it back in time…..Alfred opened up the package it exploded so now he’s in hospital….uh oh…..so Bruce Wayne puts evidence together about his family and the riddles…he finds out that Carmine Falcone killed someone who who was a photographer because he took a picture of Mr Wayne’s wife while she’s in one of her mental state….if ur wondering why he killed this person….well Mr Wayne asked him to take care of that guy but he didn’t know that Carmine would down right kill the dude so he felt guilt for even asking a mob boss for a favor……so he goes asks Falcone….he tells Bruce that his dad hired him to kill thr reporter guy…but uh that’s false because he then goes talks to Alfred who’s in a hospital he tells him that his dad was devastated when he found out that he killed that reporter….also Bruce Wayne tells Alfred he felt fear that he almost lost a loved one…awww that’s thr nicest thing he said to Alfred because he kinda treated him like shite…..anyways he then sees the bat signal goes up to it there is Selina Kyle with one of the corrupt cops tied to a chair at the edge of the roof….him and Gordon try to prevent her from killing the guy, batman plays tape recorder to Selina which she hears her friend on the other line…we find out that Falcone shoked her to death to silence her….ohhh bad mistake….so Selina now wants to go after him so he kicks the guy off the roof and jumps onto the other roof…but batman and Gordon grab the cop……batman then grapples down and goes chases Selina….he follows her back to the club where she sneaks her way in shoots Falcone men…she tells Falcone she’s his daughter….ohhhhhhhh and he owes her money….yep starting to make sense he’s a dead beat dad……that left her ans her mom, anyways she starts fighting Falcone but he gets the best of her on thr ground then starts shoking her….but batman shows up grabs Falcone takes him outside where all the cops are…they arrest him…..as they tell him his rights, penguin comes out starts bad mouthing Falcone…..which Falcone gets quipy back at him so penguin pulls gun out Falcone gets shot they assume penguin shot him but he didn’t….anyways Falcone dies from his wound…batman figured out the other riddle which I forget to mention it said bring the rat into the light….batman looks up there’s a light above them so he unintentionally brought the rat out into the light….so they see the sniper came from a apartment window across the street thwy go inside find out this is where the riddler is living….they find evidence everywhere, pictures of crime scenes and images of victims posted on the walls…..uhhhh yikes….but he’s not there, instead he’s at a dinner drinking some coffee….so the cops go arrest him…we now see who playing the riddler it’s Paul Dano……also the director changed the characters name…his name in the comics is Edward Nigma…as in like a nigma …..get it?… Ed nigma…. a nigma…….lolo but his name in this film is Edward Nash…..I like this change….sounds alot better then Ed Nigma…..anyways so they put him in jail, take pictures of the evidence in his apartment….then batman goes and questions Edward Nash….he reveals that he thought batman and him were working together but turns out no they weren’t….he is just mentally ill and is delusional…yeah no kidding he’s delusional….he says he had it all planned out him and batman could stay there watch it all happen…..batman says all what happen? He then says wait u didn’t figure out yet? All the evidence was there in my apartment? Ohhhh ur not as clever as I thought….so batman yells tell me what u mean!!…so batman goes back to the apartment….grabs the carpenters tool some cop there says that’s a carpenters tool his father worked at a carpenters store…so batman uses it to tear the floor open…which reveals a map of the city marked with locations where bombs gonna explode…..uh ohhh…..so whats the riddlers plan u may ask, well he wants to bomb the towns walla to flood the town….to well clense it in a way…..so the city walls blow up the town starts getting flooded uh oh…….the new major is giving her speech but the water gets to them floods the area……oh also guess what else shows up to the speech…..some men who followed the riddlers motives and are dressed up like him….there gonna assassinate the major….ohhhh dear….also this seems like something straight out of the classic comics where the villians henchmen dress up similar to them……next thing u know we gonna see the words blam pow kapow show up on screen…..lolo….anyways so batman goes down there to stop the assassination attempt, catwoman joins to help him fight them off….there fighting on top pf a platform of sorts….anyways they both start beating up the criminals…..Gordon shows up to arrest the criminals…..batman takes the mask off one guy asks him who are u…the guy says I’m vengeance…..woahhhh hooo this scene made the entire applaud…..because basically batman at this moment looked at the criminal as if he was letting this sink in….he has caused an effect on this city but not the way he attended…no instead the word vengeance is being used as a fear tactic….which Isn’t good….so he decides to jump down into the flood water to help the people get out alive….so he helps them….helicopters come start lifting people to safety…..they take the the survivor’s onto a roof of a building….the injured getting carried away to hospital……..batman starts narrating saying I need to adapt my methods…..anyways so riddler sees his plan failed so he starts crying but then someone in another cell says stop crying, u did a great job….besides people love a come back….they both start laughing….also if u guessed this guy is the Joker then lucky guess…anyways film ends with catwoman and batman riding on motorcycles the opposite way….she’s leaving Gotham, he’s staying in Gotham….anyways the end…time for pros and cons

Positives: I love this film the direction was great, the cinematography is gorgeous….the acting and action is on par…..soundtrack is great…now onto negatives

Negatives: the only negatives I have is this film started feeling little to long it clocks into 2 hours and 54 min long…yeah thats slightly to long

Overall I loved the film I recommend it…it’s on HBO Max….I’m gonna give the film a solid 9/10

❌ CONS 😒 — The Riddles Are Either Baby-Easy or Vague Nonsense

For a movie that heavily markets itself as “the world’s greatest detective” Batman finally doing detective work,” the riddles… are honestly some of the weakest parts of the entire film. They fall into two equally bad categories:

⚠️ 1. The Riddles That Are TOO Easy (Like… embarrassingly easy)

Examples:

“What does a liar do when he’s dead?”
Answer: He lies still.
This is kindergarten-level wordplay. The kind of joke you find inside a 25-cent gumball-machine riddle book. Yet Batman stares at it like someone asked him to solve multivariable calculus.

“Follow the rat.”
Gordon and Batman act like this is ancient Elvish scripture.
No… it’s literally just calling someone a snitch.

“Are you El Rata Alada?”
This is a question, not a riddle.
And the translation (“rat with wings”) should IMMEDIATELY point Batman toward himself, Falcone, or the actual rats of Gotham’s corruption ring…

Instead?

Batman: “Must be the Penguin.”
Gordon: “Yes that makes sense.”

NO IT DOES NOT.
Penguins do not have wings that help them fly. They are flightless birds.
Even the Penguin makes fun of them for being this stupid.


BOTTOM LINE:
These riddles aren’t clever — they’re just simple words with dramatic pauses.

⚠️ 2. The Riddles That Are Impossible (Because They Aren’t Actually Riddles)

Example:

“Bring the rat into the light.”

This is not a riddle.
It’s not a clue.
It’s not even a complete thought.

It could mean:

expose the truth

drag someone into a spotlight

literally shine a flashlight on a person

bring someone outside

put them under a streetlamp

interrogate someone

reveal evidence

drag a corpse into daylight

ANYTHING


There is zero linguistic specificity.
Zero wordplay.
Zero direction.

It’s basically the riddle equivalent of someone saying:

“Do the thing. In the place.”

The movie only “solves” the clue because the script forces the characters into the exact location where the interpretation suddenly makes sense.

That’s not clever puzzle design.
That’s reverse-engineered plotting wearing a green question-mark hat.

⚠️ 3. The Riddles Make Batman Look… Kind of Dumb

This is the biggest problem.

Batman, the world’s smartest detective, cannot solve:

a dead-body pun

obvious corruption clues

super basic Spanish

a literal question with no deeper meaning

a phrase that could mean 300 different things


Meanwhile, I — a guy sitting in a movie theater with nachos — solved half these riddles before Bruce even opened his mouth.

If the audience is smarter than Batman, you’ve got a writing problem.

And it drags down Gordon too.
He’s supposed to be Batman’s intellectual equal, but here he’s basically Bruce’s confused hype man:

“Yeah, that checks out.”

“Sure, why not.”

“If you say so.”


It turns both characters into reactionary detectives, not smart ones.

⚠️ 4. The Movie Wants a Noir Aesthetic, But Not Noir Logic

Real noir detectives:

connect threads

follow clues

make deductions

uncover contradictions

interpret hidden meaning


This Batman movie does none of that.

Instead:

The easy riddles make Batman look clueless.

The vague riddles make the writing look lazy.

The plot moves because Riddler lets Batman move, not because he figures anything out.


It’s style over substance — noir cosplay instead of actual deduction.

❌ FINAL TAKE: The Riddles Are the Weakest Part of the Movie

Not because they’re cheesy.
Not because they’re dark.
Not because the tone is wrong.

But because they’re:

too simple,

too vague,

poorly constructed,

poorly solved,

and make the smartest characters in the franchise look incompetent.


Fans didn’t notice it at first because the movie feels smart.
But when you actually examine the clues?

…it’s a house of cards.
