Scary Movie (2000)

Scary Movie (2000) 🎥📽🎞

“How’s it go? Wazzzuuupppp!”

Let’s start by showing y’all the trailers shall we?

This is definitely not Friedberg and Seltzer.

⚠️ Content Warning

This review discusses a film that contains heavy vulgar humor, crude jokes, sexual content, and strong language throughout.

Scary Movie (2000) is known for its no-filter, anything-goes comedy style, including:

– Sexual and explicit jokes
– Gross-out humor
– Offensive and boundary-pushing gags
– Strong language and profanity
– Parodies that intentionally push social limits

If you’re sensitive to raunchy or over-the-top humor, just know:

«this movie (and this review) do not hold back.»

You’ve been warned 😤

🧠 Non-Spoiler Plot Overview

So this movie is basically a parody of late 90s horror movies like Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer.

We follow a group of teens who accidentally kill someone… and instead of doing the smart thing and calling the police, they do the most horror-movie thing possible:

> yeah… let’s dump the body

And from that point on, a masked killer starts targeting them one by one.

Simple setup.

But the movie constantly goes:

> yeah we know how dumb this genre is

and just starts tearing it apart.

🧍‍♂️ Character Rundown

Cindy Campbell (Anna Faris) is your “final girl,” but played in the most chaotic way possible. She somehow survives everything while clearly having no idea what’s going on, and the way Anna Faris plays her is just pure confusion mixed with commitment.

Brenda Meeks (Regina Hall)… yeah no, she steals the entire movie. Every single time she shows up, the movie gets funnier. She’s loud, she’s aware, she’s calling everybody out, and even when she’s in danger she refuses to stop talking.

Shorty Meeks (Marlon Wayans) is high the entire movie and somehow ends up being more aware than everyone else. The fact that he’s reacting to everything like:

> yeah this is crazy

makes every scene hit harder.

Ray Wilkins (Shawn Wayans) is suspicious from the second you see him. Like everything about him just feels off, and the movie leans into that hard.

Bobby Prinze (Jon Abrahams)… yeah… his whole character is basically one long joke that just keeps escalating. And the crazy part is:

> it actually works

because they fully commit to it.

And then there’s Doofy (Dave Sheridan).

I’m not gonna say too much yet… but just know:

> yeah… there’s more going on there than you think

⏱️ Pacing / Flow

This movie MOVES.

There’s no wasted time. It’s just constant:

> joke → parody → callback → chaos → joke

But unlike something like Epic Movie, where it feels random, here everything actually connects.

The jokes are built. They have setup, payoff, and escalation.

So instead of feeling exhausting, it feels like:

> okay what are they gonna do next?

😂 Funniest Moments

Yeah… this movie is LOADED.

The opening Scream parody immediately sets the tone. The killer calls, asks dumb questions, she’s running around like crazy, gets hit by a car… and THEN stabbed. I was already done 😭

The “WAZZUPPP” scene is still hilarious. The fact that Ghostface joins in makes absolutely no sense… and that’s exactly why it works.

Brenda in the movie theater?

Best scene in the movie.

She’s yelling at the screen, calling everyone stupid, telling them to run… and then ends up in the exact same situation and STILL doesn’t leave.

That’s what makes it genius.

The “we hit someone” scene is just roasting horror logic. They accidentally kill someone and instead of calling the police they go:

> yeah let’s dump the body

Like WHAT 😭

Shorty getting attacked while high and still managing to survive is insane. The man is fighting the killer and still acting like:

> yeah this is wild

Bobby’s whole “problem” is so dumb, but it works because the movie fully commits to the bit.

And then the news van line:

> “White folks are dead, we’re getting the f*** outta here!”

That right there?

That’s the movie.

🧠 Final Thoughts

This is what parody movies are SUPPOSED to be.

The Wayans brothers didn’t just throw references on screen.

They understood the genre.

They took horror tropes, broke them down, exaggerated them, and turned them into actual jokes.

This movie isn’t just dumb.

It’s:

> smart dumb

And that’s the difference.

⭐ Rating

10/10

⚠️ Spoiler Warning

Alright… now we get into the chaos 😤

🗑️ Spoilers

So the whole movie builds around this group covering up a hit-and-run and then getting targeted by a killer.

Pretty standard setup…

except everything is constantly being made fun of.

You’ve got scenes that mirror Scream, but instead of tension, it’s just chaos. Characters make the dumbest decisions possible, but now the movie is aware of it and leans into it.

Cindy keeps getting pulled into situations she doesn’t understand, Brenda keeps getting into danger and STILL talking, and Shorty is just existing in his own world the entire time.

And then the big reveal…

Doofy.

Yeah.

The entire time he’s been acting like this clueless, slow character…

and then at the end, it turns out it’s all an act.

That Usual Suspects parody where he drops the act and starts walking normally?

That was actually clever.

Like wait…

> y’all had a brain this whole time??

And that’s why it works.

Because underneath all the stupidity…

> there’s actual structure

Also, we get one and the most goofiest, yet most iconic fright scenes the matrix styled fight.

I told you this is stupid.

🎯 Final Final Thought

This movie proves you don’t need:

random references

lazy writing

or cheap jokes

You need:

> understanding of the genre

That’s why this works…

and why stuff like Epic Movie completely failed.

If Scary Movie 6 is even HALF as good as this?

Yeah…

we might actually be eating GOOD 😤

Here’s why talking about this film franchise today, because the new Scary Movie 6 has finally released. Here’s the trailer for that film.
