Spongebob Squarepants Christmas Special: Hohoho, happy holidays to everyone. Today, we’re celebrating the holidays by reliving/reviewing this Spongebob Christmas Special, so join me as we go down memory lane.
But first, let’s get the rating out of the way. Overall, I love this Christmas special. It’s one of my favorite Spongebob Squarepants episodes, and I’ve made it a tradition to watch it every December.
So, I’ll give this episode a solid 10/10. I highly recommend watching it—warning: Spoilers ahead. You’ve been warned.
So in this episode, we open up with a Christmas version of the Spongebob Squarepants theme.
The episode begins with Patchy the Pirate decorating a Christmas tree and welcoming the audience. He eats some raw cookie dough, keeping it away from Potty, and reacts to the sound of three bells, leading to a humorous exchange. Patchy mentions the bells, and when a kid suggests “free ice cream,” Patchy laughs and dismisses the idea, before turning to open fan letters.
Meanwhile, SpongeBob visits Sandy’s house, where he mistakes the Christmas tree for fire because he doesn’t know what Christmas is. After Sandy asks if he’s ever seen a Christmas tree, SpongeBob humorously responds, “Christmas that?” Sandy then explains Christmas and Santa Claus to him. SpongeBob later tells Mr. Krabs, Squidward, and Patrick about Christmas and suggests they all write a Christmas list to send to Santa.
Squidward, acting like the Grinch, is skeptical about Christmas, questioning why someone would give him a gift just because of a letter. He makes a fair point, but Patrick, being clueless, keeps breaking his paper with his pencil. To help, SpongeBob creates a mechanism to launch the town’s wish bottles to the ocean’s surface.
The wishes are mostly ridiculous, like one asking for a glass of water for teeth. SpongeBob asks Squidward for his wish, and Squidward sarcastically replies that he wishes everyone would stop paying attention to SpongeBob. SpongeBob jokes that maybe Santa can bring Squidward a dictionary so he can understand what he just said.
SpongeBob then tells everyone they have a lot to do to prepare for Santa, leading to the ironic song montage, “First Christmas.”
The Bikini Bottom residents stay up all night, singing around their Christmas tree with Patrick on top, waiting for Santa. However, when Santa doesn’t show up, they grow frustrated and leave. Patrick, disappointed, says, “Never trust a genie.” Squidward, feeling satisfied that SpongeBob was wrong, takes a photo of SpongeBob’s sadness.
SpongeBob, upset, says, “You’re right, this was a stupid holiday,” and hands Squidward a gift he made for him. Squidward is surprised by the gesture and opens the gift—a handmade wooden clarinet. Touched, he admits, “I feel like a big jerk,” after realizing how he acted.
Squidward then dressed as Santa to make it up to SpongeBob. When he arrives, SpongeBob, not recognizing him, greets him with, “Who’s there? Hello? Show yourself!” Squidward, now in full Santa costume, falls in front of SpongeBob, who thanks “Santa” for coming. SpongeBob later faints on Gary but returns with the townsfolk, eager to get their gifts. Squidward now has to get creative, giving away items from his house to satisfy the townspeople.
Squidward ends up giving away everything in his house, except for the house itself. He questions his sanity, saying, “I gave all my stuff away so SpongeBob won’t be sad—am I insane?”
Suddenly, a note appears in front of his house, signed by Santa. It reads, “Thanks for all your help, you’ve been a real good boy this year. Regards, Santa Claus.” Just then, Santa appears in the sky in his sleigh, shouting, “Ho ho ho, Merry Christmas!” Squidward walks away muttering, “Yep, I’m insane.”
The episode ends with Patchy trying to ask the audience who’s going to kiss him under the mistletoe. Potty attempts to kiss him, but Patchy ducks, saying, “No, no, not you, Potty!”
Hahahahah I don’t blame him, anyways Happy holidays to all to all a goodnight. I wish y’all happy holidays. Whichever holiday you celebrate, anyway hope y’all enjoyed this review.
