Lego Star Wars Holiday Special (2020)

🎄 Lego Star Wars: The Holiday Special (2020) 🎄

Let’s start by showing y’all the trailer, shall we?

📽️

Who remembers this? Doesn’t matter — today we’re taking a look at this Lego special.

❄️ Non-Spoiler Rundown ❄️

We follow our sequel-era gang: Finn, Poe Dameron, Chewbacca, and the rest of the crew as they try to throw a Life Day celebration on the Millennium Falcon. Finn, being the cinnamon roll that he is, really wants Rey to join in the fun — but she’s too busy doing Jedi homework, AKA studying Luke Skywalker’s sacred texts. The less we remember those sequels, the better. Finn is stressing over making the perfect Life Day party happen: decorations, food, friends… all set. But Rey actually showing up? That’s looking less likely by the second.

Rey, dragging BB-8 along like the galaxy’s most loyal droid Uber, heads off to a mysterious Jedi Temple. Inside, she finds a magical time travel crystal. And because apparently even Star Wars can’t resist a little MCU-style multiverse shenanigans, the crystal can open portals to moments throughout the timeline. Rey ends up jumping through time, accidentally crashing into major Star Wars events like Luke’s training with Yoda, Anakin’s podracing days, and Obi-Wan’s duel with Darth Maul. Every era she visits ends up hilariously disrupted.

🎁 The Twist

Remember how the original Holiday Special gave us Chewbacca’s family? Yeah, for a brief few seconds, they’re back here. Which means that horrendous fever dream from 1978 is officially canon. Oh nooooo. And in one of the wildest turns, Rey’s portal-hopping sends Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine straight into Kylo Ren’s bedroom. Kylo, being the awkward Sith groupie that he is, gushes over Vader and shows off the wall posters like a teenager showing their parent their band shrine.

Final Thoughts:
This is exactly what Lego Star Wars should be — silly, self-aware, and willing to roast the franchise it’s part of while still feeling like a love letter to it. It’s the complete opposite of the original Holiday Special in the best way possible.

🛑 Rating Before Spoilers 🛑

10/10 – This is easily the funniest of the Lego Star Wars Disney+ specials. It pokes fun at every era of Star Wars, throws in ridiculous matchups, and doesn’t take itself seriously at all. The Rey/Vader/Palpatine chaos is comedy gold.

🚨 Spoilers Ahead 🚨

Once Vader and Palpatine get hold of the crystal, they decide to start their own chaotic galaxy-conquering tour through time. This leads to Vader dueling himself on the Death Star — suit-Vader vs. Anakin-era Vader — while Rey tries to keep the timelines from completely imploding. The fight is pure Lego absurdity, with both Vaders trash-talking each other until Rey interrupts.

In the middle of all this, Kylo and Palpatine are off to the side chatting like a weird Sith mentorship support group, and Luke walks in completely baffled because a portal just opened up in front of him and out walks his dad… and a woman he’s never met named Rey. Luke has no idea what’s happening and honestly, same.

Eventually, the crystal is returned and the timeline mostly restored. Back on the Falcon, everyone gathers for Life Day. Vader, after seeing just how much Palpatine has disrespected him over the years, finally admits the Emperor never treated him right. In a perfectly petty Lego moment, he chucks the Life Day mug he bought Palpy into the trash and declares, “Happy Life Day” like he actually means it.
