Beyond Paradise – Season 3 (2025)

Beyond Paradise – Season 3 Review (2025)

Quiet Towns, Loud Hearts, and the Best Detective Still Doing It

Let’s start with the trailers, shall we?

From the jump, the Season 3 trailers made it clear this wasn’t just another cozy-crime season. There was warmth, tension, heartbreak, and that familiar gentle humor that Beyond Paradise does better than almost anything else on TV right now. This was one of my most anticipated shows of the year, right up there with IT: Welcome to Derry, and thankfully, it completely delivered.

Non-Spoiler Plot Overview

Season 3 continues to follow DI Humphrey Goodman as he solves a new string of murders and strange crimes in Shipton Abbott, a town that looks peaceful on the surface but is constantly hiding secrets just beneath it. Each episode presents a self-contained mystery, but what really elevates this season is how tightly those cases are woven into the characters’ personal lives.

At the same time, the show deepens its emotional core, especially through Humphrey and Martha as they take on fostering — a storyline that adds real weight without ever feeling manipulative or forced. The season balances murder mysteries with genuine human drama in a way that feels effortless.

Character Rundown (Non-Spoiler)

DI Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall)
Still my favorite detective — not just in this show, but all the way back to Death in Paradise. Humphrey remains brilliantly written: awkward, endlessly kind, deceptively sharp, and driven by empathy rather than ego. Season 3 reinforces why he works so well — he doesn’t just solve crimes, he understands people.

Martha Lloyd (Sally Bretton)
Martha continues to be the emotional anchor of the series. This season gives her some of the strongest material yet, especially as she navigates fostering and unresolved feelings from her past. She’s never reduced to “the partner” — she feels fully realized, flawed, and deeply human.

DS Esther Williams (Zahra Ahmadi)
Esther gets more space this season, and it pays off. She’s confident, capable, and emotionally grounded, bringing a quiet strength that complements Humphrey perfectly.

PC Kelby Hartford (Dylan Llewellyn)
Kelby continues his growth from eager rookie to a genuinely dependable officer. He’s still funny, but Season 3 allows him to mature without losing the charm that made him likable in the first place.

Anne Lloyd (Barbara Flynn)
Anne’s storyline adds emotional gravity to the season. Her presence reminds the audience that this show isn’t afraid to slow down and let moments breathe.

Archie Hughes (Jamie Bamber)
Archie’s return introduces tension without cheap drama. He’s used as a narrative tool to test characters, not derail them — which is a refreshing choice.

Pacing / Episode Flow

Season 3 is incredibly well paced. Each episode feels complete, but there’s a strong sense of momentum across the season. The mysteries are engaging without being convoluted, and the personal arcs progress naturally instead of being dumped on the audience all at once.

This is one of those rare seasons where nothing feels rushed, yet nothing drags.

Pros

What truly makes this season great is its balance. It’s warm without being saccharine, emotional without being melodramatic, and clever without showing off. The writing trusts the audience. The performances feel lived-in. The setting remains cozy, but the stakes feel real.

Most importantly, the show understands that murder mysteries work best when you actually care about the people involved — and Season 3 absolutely succeeds at that.

Cons

Honestly? Very few. If you’re someone who wants nonstop twists or shock-value storytelling, this won’t be your thing — but that’s not a flaw, that’s the show knowing exactly what it is.

Final Thoughts

Season 3 cements Beyond Paradise as more than just a spin-off — it’s its own fully realized series with heart, intelligence, and confidence. Humphrey Goodman remains one of the most likable and quietly brilliant detectives on television, and this season proves that slow, character-driven storytelling is still not only viable, but powerful.

This was absolutely one of my most anticipated shows of the year, and it exceeded expectations.
