Jurassic World (2015) Review

“Welcome, to The Soft Reboot”

⚠️ Content & Tone Warning
This film ramps up the blockbuster spectacle. Expect a higher body count, more intense dino kills, and plenty of “theme park disaster” chaos.

📖 Non-Spoiler Rundown
After years of failed attempts, Hammond’s dream finally comes true: Jurassic World, a full-fledged dinosaur theme park, is open to the public. Tourists gawk at herds of stegosaurs, pet baby triceratops, and ride gyrospheres through dinosaur paddocks. But the park wants “bigger, louder, scarier,” so the scientists cook up a new genetic hybrid: the Indominus rex.

Naturally, it escapes, and chaos reigns. Families are trapped, dinosaurs are unleashed, and the park spirals into mayhem. It’s a classic setup: humans play god, humans lose control, dinosaurs win.

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Character Rundown

Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) – Ex-Navy raptor trainer who treats the dinos with respect. A mix of action hero and animal wrangler.

Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) – The operations manager of Jurassic World. Starts cold and corporate, but grows into a protector and survivor.

Zach & Gray (Nick Robinson & Ty Simpkins) – Claire’s nephews, stranded in the park when things go south.

Vic Hoskins (Vincent D’Onofrio) – The human villain pushing to weaponize raptors. Corporate greed personified.

Dr. Henry Wu (BD Wong) – Returning from the original film, he’s behind the Indominus experiment.

Simon Masrani (Irrfan Khan) – The park owner, full of charisma but ultimately unprepared for the disaster.

⏱️ Pacing & Tone
This is a faster, sleeker ride than Jurassic Park III. From the raptor training scene early on, the movie rarely slows down. The action builds in waves, leading to the climactic showdown between the Indominus, raptors, and the T. rex.

✅ Pros

The park itself is finally open — a fan dream come true.

Indominus rex is a clever (and terrifying) “what if?” concept.

The climax with Rexy + Blue vs. Indominus is pure fan service in the best way.

Strong action sequences: gyrosphere attack, pterosaur breakout, raptor hunt.

Bryce Dallas Howard gives Claire surprising depth as the film goes on.

❌ Cons / Why Some People Didn’t Like It

Over-reliance on CGI – Unlike the original’s blend of animatronics and practical effects, this entry leans heavily on digital dinos. Some felt it lost the “realness” of 1993.

Corporate satire feels thin – The whole “bigger, louder, scarier” angle isn’t as sharp as Crichton’s original cautionary tale.

Character criticism – Some viewers found Claire’s arc rushed (going from business-first to dino-sympathetic in one movie). Others thought the kids were bland.

Raptor Squad controversy – The idea of Owen training raptors like attack dogs split audiences. Some thought it was cool, others thought it was silly.

Nostalgia vs. originality – For some, the callbacks to Jurassic Park felt more like recycling than honoring.

🏁 Final Thoughts
For me, Jurassic World is a thrill ride that delivers exactly what it promises: dinosaurs unleashed in a theme park setting. It’s big, loud, and fun — with enough callbacks to the original to feel connected, but enough fresh ideas (Indominus, raptor squad, open park) to stand on its own.

⭐ Rating: 9/10

🚨 Spoiler Zone — Enter at Your Own Risk 🚨

Indominus Rex Reveal
Bred from raptor DNA, cuttlefish, T. rex, and more, the Indominus is the ultimate predator. Its intelligence (camouflage, tricking humans) makes it far more dangerous than a regular dino.

The Gyrosphere Attack
Zach and Gray roll through the park, only to get trapped in Indominus territory. It leads to one of the best sequences: Indominus tearing into the sphere like a toy.

Pterosaur Breakout
The Indominus smashes through aviary glass, releasing a swarm of pterosaurs that rain down on visitors in one of the film’s most chaotic set pieces.

Raptor Betrayal
The raptors, initially hunting with Owen, turn on the humans when they realize Indominus shares their DNA. It’s a chilling moment that underscores Wu’s hubris.

Climactic Showdown
Claire unleashes Rexy (the original T. rex from 1993). With Blue the raptor’s help, Rexy takes down the Indominus in a monster-movie battle royale. The Mosasaurus delivers the killing blow, dragging Indominus into the lagoon.

By the way, this is officially, when the t-rex became the poster child of this franchise!

Ending Note
The surviving characters escape, Rexy roars over the park ruins, and the dream of a functioning dinosaur theme park ends — again.
