Non-Spoiler Plot Overview:
After deciding to stay in Auradon, Mal finds herself struggling with her new princess life. Overwhelmed by expectations and losing touch with her identity, she returns to the Isle of the Lost—only to find that power has shifted in her absence. Uma, daughter of Ursula, has taken control and wants revenge. This sets the stage for a showdown that brings the VKs back to their roots, and challenges where their loyalties lie.

Character Rundown (with Parents & Actors):
Mal (Dove Cameron) – Daughter of Maleficent. Still the leader of the VKs, but now facing the pressure of royal life.
Evie (Sofia Carson) – Daughter of the Evil Queen. Fashion designer with a big heart and fierce loyalty.
Carlos (Cameron Boyce) – Son of Cruella de Vil. Tech-savvy, nervous, and adorable as ever.
Jay (Booboo Stewart) – Son of Jafar. Athletic and loyal, continues to be the glue of the group.
Ben (Mitchell Hope) – Son of Belle and Beast. Now King, and trying to support Mal.
Uma (China Anne McClain) – Daughter of Ursula. Commanding, bitter, and ready to make waves.
Harry Hook (Thomas Doherty) – Son of Captain Hook. Pirate with a flair for chaos.
Gil (Dylan Playfair) – Son of Gaston. Dumb but lovable henchman.
Dizzy Tremaine (Anna Cathcart) – Granddaughter of Lady Tremaine. Sweet, artistic, and new to Auradon.
Even brief cameos from Ursula and others like Maleficent remind us of the legacy these VKs carry.

Pacing / Episode Flow:
Descendants 2 moves at a faster pace than the first film and feels more balanced. It starts with high stakes, escalates emotionally, and never feels too slow. The Isle of the Lost sequences are moody, fun, and give us a deeper look into this world. Every musical number serves the plot, and the climax is timed perfectly.
—
Pros:
Uma is a show-stealer. China Anne McClain brings menace and charisma.
The songs SLAP. “What’s My Name” and “It’s Going Down” are bangers.
Much darker and edgier than the first. The Isle feels lived-in and gritty.
Stronger character development, especially for Mal and Evie.
Harry Hook is absolutely unhinged in the best way.
Jay and Carlos have a sweet friendship arc.
Ben actually gets more depth this time around.
—
Cons:
A few jokes miss the mark (still very Disney channel humor).
Gil’s character could’ve had a bit more substance.
Uma’s motivations could have been explored just a bit more.

Final Thoughts:
Descendants 2 is the perfect sequel. It ups the stakes, introduces amazing new characters, and doesn’t lose the heart that made the first one special. Mal’s internal struggle and the clash between Auradon and the Isle is handled with care. The choreography, the cinematography (especially during the Isle scenes), and the emotional beats all land beautifully. It’s a love letter to kids who feel caught between two worlds.
And again, Cameron Boyce’s presence is a highlight. He feels more comfortable in Carlos’ shoes this time, and it makes his scenes even more enjoyable.
