Let’s start by showing yall the trailers shall we?
🧪 Time for Obsidian: The Marceline + Bubblegum Episode
That’s right folks—today we’re taking a look at this Adventure Time spinoff show. Specifically, we will be taking a look at that Marceline and Bubblegum episode.
🏰 The Plot Rundown (Glass Kingdom Vibes)
So what’s the plot rundown of this episode?
Well, in this glass kingdom—where if you have a crack on you then you’re shunned (anyways not important)—what’s impossible is this fire dragon that had been locked up in the mountains by them has escaped. 🔥
So this little glass kid who gets bullied because he has a crack on his head goes to recruit Marceline, because he knows the myths of Marceline and her awesomeness.
The kid heads to a bar and is spotted by Simon. He brings the kid to Marceline and Bubblegum where he asks for help. At first Marceline is unsure of helping, because something bad happened between her and Princess Bubblegum all those years ago when they both were asked to come help out the glass kingdom against the dragon.
It’s the cause of why they stopped talking and hanging out with each other for a long time.
But they both agree to go help.
What is this bad thing that happened between them that caused that kind of damage in their friendship all those years ago?
Will they be able to stop the dragon?
All will be revealed in the spoilers—but for now, let’s get the rating out of the way, shall we?
🌈 Rating Time
Overall I loved this specific episode.
As for the other episodes—idk, I didn’t watch them. Didn’t really care to watch an episode revolving around Peppermint Butler. I decided to only watch the episode I’d be invested into.
So I can only judge it off of one episode. So I’d give this episode a solid 10/10.
⚠️ Warning: spoilers ahead y’all been warned.⚠️
🧨 Third Act Revelations
So come the third act, here’s some revelations that happen:
- Years ago, Marceline and Bubblegum weren’t just “getting on each other’s nerves” — they were basically clashing because they saw the world so differently.
Marceline believed in the power of emotion, of music, of healing.
Bubblegum, always the scientist and strategist, relied on logic, technology, and control.
When the monster threatened the Glass Kingdom, this difference wasn’t just philosophical — it became personal. Marceline poured her soul into a song meant to soothe and contain the beast. It worked — the monster retreated into the caves, and the people hailed her as a hero.
But for Bubblegum? It wasn’t enough. She couldn’t accept that Marceline’s empathetic method could succeed where her calculated methods failed. Instead of celebrating Marceline… she walked away.
> That wasn’t just a breakup. It was abandonment.
It planted years of emotional distance between them. Marceline thought PB didn’t respect her. PB thought Marceline wasn’t taking things seriously. And neither one realized just how deeply they’d hurt each other.

💔 Why This Hits So Hard:
It reframes their whole dynamic across Adventure Time — the sarcasm, the distance, the hurt.
It shows how past pain doesn’t always come from betrayal — sometimes it comes from feeling unseen.
And it lays the groundwork for Obsidian’s payoff — when they finally talk, forgive, and reconnect. - Turns out back then the glass people didn’t even invite Marceline to deal with the beast—they in fact asked Bubblegum. She just brought Marceline along because she felt bad. Yikes.
- Even though some of the town folks make fun of this one kid who has a crack on his head because it’s imperfection, turns out the entire town have cracks they’ve been hiding—including these 3 snobby douchebags who work for the queen. Turns out they are covered in cracks. They’ve been hiding it with tape. Womp womp. 🙃
- Since music this time around isn’t working for some reason (who knows, maybe the monster got tired of her 1 song), Marceline thinks she has to go to the root of her trauma by going back to her old apocalyptic house her mother raised her in all those years ago.
🧠 Digging Into Marceline’s Past
She has trauma because her mom got sickly ill without telling her. She sent Marceline away and she passed away. Marceline lost her mom at a young age and essentially lost her father figure Simon because he then turned into a deranged lunatic. So no wonder why Marceline is damaged.
Might explain why she has trouble expressing emotions to her close ones. But since the monster isn’t easy to defeat this time, glass kid goes and sees Marceline and tries to level down to her and convince her to go back.
She decides to go back. Unfortunately, these black shadow demonic creatures show up and she tries attacking them but they break her iconic favorite guitar axe. Gasp! 🎸💔
💞 Heart-to-Heart + Butterfly Thing
She joins back with PB and as the monster is destroying the cave that PB is in, they sit together and have a heart-to-heart moment. Then they both start singing together.
Which somehow causes a smaller looking bright white butterfly creature to come bursting out of the lava dragon monster… yeah huh?
Also, these demonic shadow creatures turn into these bright white butterfly creatures and are happy. Huh? I guess that dragon was their mother? So… happy ending?
🎤 Happily Ever After (with a Kiss!)
The town decides to throw a concert for Marceline and PB. They both dance together and kiss. Awwwwww. The end. 💕
Anyways hope y’all enjoy this review.
I really enjoyed this episode. Anyways, till next time.
