I remember growing up with this series, what weird times that was.
🎵 Let’s Start by Showing Y’all the Theme Song, Shall We?
Ok say what you will about this show, but dare tell me this theme song isn’t catchy as hell.
🧒 So What’s This Show About?
Well in this series we follow the gang when they are just kids:
Velma
Scooby-Doo
Shaggy
Fred
Daphne
Yeah, that’s the whole gimmick to this show. They’re kind of the same except they’re now kids and can’t drive.
I will say this though—the gang isn’t yet the smartest. Heck, I think the show knows that Fred isn’t usually the brightest.
So the show leans heavily into that. I kid you not when I say this, but there’s a running gag that every time the gang is predicting who the monster is, Fred always says “It’s Red Herring!”
And it turns out Red Herring is this kid bully that Fred hates.
The joke is that usually the term “red herring” is used in media to describe a clue that’s meant to be misleading—to throw the audience and the characters off guard.
But here? Red Herring is literally the name of a kid. And for some reason, Fred is just convinced all these monsters they go up against have to be Red Herring.
🙄 Daphne and Velma… Yeah, They Got Done Dirty
I will say though—even though that shtick is funny—there are two things that don’t fit well with me: the characterization of Velma and Daphne.
In this show, Daphne is spoiled and has a butler at her whim, and she can only talk about fashion.
Yeah. A girl only talking about fashion. Doesn’t that seem… dated?
Then there’s Velma. If she isn’t saying “Jinkies,” she’s holding a freaking magnifying glass up to her eyeball in every scene.
Two walking stereotypes. But also… this is a kids’ show so why am I complaining?
Just to stick to that kid audience, the show always ends with Velma breaking the fourth wall to look at the audience and say, “Do you know who did it? Let’s look at the clues.”
Then the footage rewinds. Yeah.
🍔 The Burger Monster Episode – You Heard Me
Also—there’s the iconic Burger Monster in this show.
Well that’s right up Scooby-Doo and Shaggy’s alley.
Too bad in this episode they aren’t talking to each other since they fought off-screen.
Petty drama. Always fun.
But also—spoilers for this episode of The Burger Monster.
⚠️ Warning: Spoilers Ahead Y’all Been Warned ⚠️
So the guy named Mr. Sleazy of Mr. Sleazy’s Bucket (yes, that’s a name) is being attacked by this burger monster.
So he hires the Scooby-Doo gang—for a cheap price.
In the end, it’s revealed that the Burger Monster is one of his employees.
Wanna know why the guy wanted to attack Mr. Sleazy?
It’s because in the many years he worked for him, he never got a raise or a promotion.
Huh?!
And Velma says, “Why didn’t you just quit your job and find another job?”
Which the guy says, “Gee, I actually didn’t think about that.”

📺 Final Rating – Maybe It’s Nostalgia, Maybe It’s Burgers
I do recommend going out of y’all’s way to watch this show. It is funny.
The animation is definitely dated, but it’s funny.
I mention it’s dated because to some these days, something “dated” in any form is an issue.
So what’s my final rating for this show?
Don’t worry, there are no spoilers to get into for this specific show.
Well overall—maybe I’m just letting nostalgia blind me—but I’ll give this show a solid 8/10.
Yeah it definitely isn’t perfect, as I said.
👋 Till Next Time
Anyway, hope y’all enjoyed it.
Till next time.
