Adventure Time: let’s start by showing yall the theme song shall we?
Adventure Time!!!! Sorry had to say that, we’ll it’s time folks to review Adventure Time. Or as my parents like to call it Diper Head Boy, yeah their words not mine.
Anyway this show ran for 10 seasons (yes 10 seasons, nowhere the longest show, no to this day that title goes to The Simpsons which has 36 seasons, and the show recently got renewed for 4 more seasons. Can that show plz end already?)
So what’s the plot rundown? Well we follow our main characters who are named
Finn the human and Jake the dog as they visit distant lands and go on adventures with their best friends
Princess Bubblegum (she’s a princess, but she’s not an ordinary princess. She loves science and sometimes she’s done dictator stuff for the safety of her people, yikes)
Marceline The Vampire Queen
Fire Princess
Lumpy Space Princess
Both Finn and Jake yearn for adventure.
Sometimes they get Throttled by
The Ice King and his favorite penguin named Gunter, yes that’s a real name that he gave a penguin. Don’t ask me why, but Ice King does have a tragic backstory, which we will get into later in the spoilers.
Also here are some of the best or weird scenes of The Ice King.
Yeah, Ice King is truly that stupid, he is mistakin a hitman for someone who hits people. Like literally hitting people.
Also to give an idea of the tone of this series, enjoy this montage of funny moments throughout seasons 1-5.
Also, one of my favorite lines in this show, when the gang is invited to a murder mystery party set up by Bubblegum, she hands out names to the guests. Telling them what their fake names are this night and Jake gets one of the most bizarre names to put it.
“I’m Randy Butternubs” (hehehehe) I love love the deadpan way Jake says that and then proceeds to walk away while tossing the card onto the floor, he couldn’t care less about being a part of this.
Anyway now it’s time to talk about my favorite characters in this show.
Marceline is my favorite of the recurring characters, her character is interesting. She’s a vampire who’s the daughter of a demon overlord whose only goal is to eat souls and take over things.
The guy a walking threat just waiting to happen, actually scratch that he has been a threat multiple times, heck he’s sucked the soul of Finn and Jake multiple times.
They’ve technically died, side note I’ve always leaned towards liking goth characters in shows, especially cartoon shows.
Marceline is my favorite, yeah I know Finn and Jake are the main characters but they rank second place for me, yeah sue me.
Anyways if curious how Finn and Jake met Marceline? Well in a specific episode in season 1, she comes and kicks them out of their tree house because turns out it’s hers.
Say what now? So yeah how do the duo get their house back? Well glad y’all asked for u see they go race against Marceline in her cave home, she ends up being impressed with both Finn and Jake’s will and they show her a good time as well by fighting her.
She then gives the tree house to Finn and Jake as a gift from her, well that’s sweet.
Before we move on to talking about other characters and dive a bit into the villains this show gave us, I wanna mention the other traits Marceline has we can turn herself into a bat-like figure and a werewolf.
She also can shapeshift her limbs if she wants, she can heal herself.
Also, Marceline uses a guitar more often than not, what’s cool about her guitar is it’s also age, and Axe-tar if u will, (doubt u will because that sounded stupid).
She also use to date a douchebag boyfriend who’s also a vampire, in case wondering how much of a douchebag he is. He sold her favorite teddy bear to a witch, this teddy bear has sentimental value, for u see when Ice King was normal. He gave her that teddy bear.
Oops I’ve revealed too much, u know too much, forget what I just said. Or don’t, I don’t care.
Also, she has daddy issues.
In all fairness, her father is a freaking demon lord who only thinks about eating the souls of people and Ruling. But she did take her father’s Axe-tar. Yes, that was her father’s.
Also here’s a scene of him, enjoy the nightmares.
Anyways moving on to Ice King, not much to say in non spoilers except he’s a creep. He kidnaps the princess against their will and tries to marry one of them.
Uhhhhhhh, yeah that’s questionable that’s for sure, also he doesn’t know why no one wants to be friends with him.
He really is clueless, also yes he’s indeed nuts, that all I’ll say here in non-spoilers. Because in spoilers I’ll talk about his and Marceline’s story.
So before moving on to spoilers, we also have recurring characters such as
Princess Unicorn (she and Jake are dating each other)
BTW I forgot to mention that Jake the dog has abilities where he can shapeshift into anything, he can extend his limbs out, make himself taller, can turn his arms into weapons.
So think of Mr. Fantastic from the Fantastic Four. Also, we got
BMO (a walking sentient robot calculator who lives with Finn and Jake)
Flame Princess (Finn’s on and off again girlfriend)father’s.
Lumpy Space Princess (she’s a deva)
Peppermint Butler (the guy is deep into the occult stuff)
As for villains we got
The Lich (more on him later, he’s the most iconic) (he’s essentially a witch, an extremely powerful witch)
Ice King
Hunson Abadeer (marcelines father)
Yeah, something never made sense to me, so Marcelines’ father is a demon, her mom was a human, and yet she somehow turned out a vampire? Yeah, try making sense of that.
LemonGrab (an invention of Princess Bubblegum) (pun fully intended but he has an extremely sour attitude)
Then in a 8 part story arc in the later season called Stake, we had these 5 vampire lords. One of which looked like a lion, no wait a king. A lion king. Eh eh eh? Ok, I’ll leave now, this joke was awful.
Also for these 7 part episodes they gave us a new theme intro, this time Marceline sings the intro theme.
Anyway in this story arc, Marceline decides to have Princess Bubblegum do a new operation she’s been working on to make her human, she wants to be human.
That’s how this all starts, it’s too bad now she wants to be human because these vampire lords have come out of hiding and now the 4 main characters have to go hunt them down.
I think these vampires came back as soon as her powers got taken out of her because she did absorb them back in the past, so her powers being taken away gave it a chance and opportunity for these 5 vampires to come back from the dead.
Uh oh, they better deal with these vampires, they are a threat.
Well it’s more than they have to get rid of these vampires because they are evil, it’s because in a way they frame Marceline because the night she gets experimented on, the teen cows get their blood sucked out.
So they think Marceline did it so they hang her on a pole and wrap her up till the sun comes out, but the cure works so she doesn’t burn alive.
Also, Marceline knows these vampires because she dealt with them in the past. As in killing them, begs the question of how they are back.
To show y’all an example of one of the vampires, Marceline gets badly injured and is almost near death, from poison via a vampire lord.
So they have to lure this vampire to her so she can suck her soul to hopefully heal her.
Because this vampire whose name is The Moon, has healing powers.
This is that scene of them luring the vampire to her.
Yes, that weird-shaped woman with a cloak and no arms, with a leaf design on her forehead is a vampire, yeah this show knew how to get weird.
I highly recommend this story arc, go out of your all way to watch this arc, it’s in 7, and that’s all I’ll say about this arc.
Now let’s move on to the Lich, oh the Lich. One of if not the most iconic villains in Adventure Time history, the Lich looks like this skeletal figure with a skeletal animal head, and some torn skin dipped above his lips, he wears a crown, a light brown hood with a cloak. Also here are multiple scenes of him.
This guy is both frightening and immensely powerful, here’s a full video of a YouTuber breaking down the entire story of the Lich.
He’s one of if not the most powerful villains in the show, he’s essentially the Doctor Doom and Thanos of the Adventure Time world, in a way he’s death incarnate.
The few things I will mention about the Lich is he was first found trapped in some kinda crystallized sap in a cave, he’s so powerful he possesses a snail to help him break loose.
Yes that’s powerful, also if ur wondering how much of a hindrance he is to our main characters, well.
He once possessed Princess Bubblegum, so they had to defeat the Lich which involved killing Bubblegum but they put pieces of her back together, there were only enough pieces to make a kid version of herself.
So she couldn’t rule so she decided to create this thing called LemonGrab, to take over in her place.
Yeah, that’s how LemonGrab came to be, safe to say it was a mistake because again he’s sour and takes offense to nearly everything, also he seems to not know how to have fun or lighten up, I mean just take a look from this clip.
“This castle is unacceptable! Condition! UNACCEPTABLE!”
Anyways moving on, we will come back to LemonGrab in a bit, the Lich possesses Jake one time.
He also possesses a magical friend of Finn and Jake named Billy, this form truly looked horrifying, Billy ended up having half his face missing and the Lich’s skeletal face visible on that town off face side.
Did I forget to mention this show is made for kids?
Back to LemonGrab, to show y’all how unhinged LemonGrab is, enjoy these clips. Don’t worry ur ears will probably hurt after this, his voice is loud and pitched.
In this next scene, he gets a prank message that says he smells like a butt, he takes offense to it then the candy kingdom points out it is just a harmless prank, but he still somehow takes it personally after he joins in on the laugh.
Now this next scene is horrifying, Bubblegum makes LemonGrab a brother, well that’s wholesome. So what’s disturbing about that?
Well in this scene both of them are playing with a toy kid LemonGrab in a box, LemonGrab wants the toy to dance and the brother wants the kid to go to bed.
So they start shoving each other and they push the doll on the floor which causes it to break, so LemonGrab screams “ONLY ONE!” then grabs his brother and shoves him in his mouth to eat him.
Say what now? The heck? Anyway let’s move on to the rating so I can spoil the rest.
Oh also if u think that clip wasn’t disturbing enough, how about this clip of LemonGrab eating an apple pie out of a knocked medium sized rat that just ate the pie.
Sorry what? Also eww gross, yeah a show meant for kids huh?
Overall yeah I love this show a lot, like a hell lot. Anyway I’m gonna give this show a solid 10/10, warning spoilers ahead y’all been warned ā ļø.
____________________________________________________
Time to spoil the 3rd act and any revolutions, so let me go through the rest of the important stuff via bulletin points.
Let’s see, Finn gets his arm cut off then a a plant replaces his arm, until one day that arm becomes sentient and creates a grass plant, Finn.
Who Finn names Fern, Fern the plant Finn, and then Finn gets a robotic arm.
Eventually down the line, Jake marries Princess Lady Unicorn and they have kids together, a blend of dogs and Unicorns.
Uni-dog if u will, also throughout this show Finn gets some new swords, such as my favorite sword.
A crimson sword he got from the Nightosphere (the home of Hunson Abadeer).
Also throughout 10 seasons Finn matures, he starts all immature, does takes people’s advantage.
Manipulated a few people for his game at one point, but he goes through character growth and understands what it means to be mature.
Now time to talk about the main spoiler, Ice King used to be this guy named Simon and he took care of Marceline when she was a kid during the apocalypse.
Yes, there was an apocalypse centuries ago, anyways Simon had a woman named Betty (who’s this sorcerer of sorts who also knows science).
But one day Simon found this crown which he’d wear sometimes, this crown granted him Ice powers but also made him go insane, along with being granted Ice powers, his skin turned blue.
Over time his hair turned long and white, and he grew a beard that was long and white. He lost his sanity, completely forgetting everything about himself before this and forgetting everyone he loved.
This is depressing, one of the first hints to this backstory was in an episode where Marceline and Ice King perform a song together off of some lyrics he found.
Turns out these lyrics are a written Manifesto when he was still Simon.
Here’s the clip of them singing together then we cut-to-back flash of Simon handing Marceline her stuffed bear who she names Hambo, Hambo the teddy bear.
I’m not crying you’re crying! Anyway sorry I do get emotional at anything relating to their backstory, it’s sad really because throughout this show Marceline tries to get Ice King to remember himself before he turned into this whacko.
Essentially, he’s mentally ill and Marceline tries to accept who is, although wishes he could remember his past self and the good old days, thinking of this like dementia.
Did I forget to mention this show knows how to get heavy? Also hands down in this shoe both Marceline and Ice King (aka Simon) have a tragic backstory.
Anyway Ice King doesn’t get his memory back until the final episode of season 10, where the entire Candy Kingdom goes to war against demonic forces.
These demons are being led by Princess Bubblegum’s awful family.
There are 2 specific things in this final episode that I loved the most, ok 3 things.
1. Both Marceline and Bubblegum kiss. Yay I knew it! Yeah so if y’all didn’t know. Most of the fanbase knew Marceline and Bubblegum loved each other as lovers.
It was kinda hinted throughout the 10 seasons, it’s subtle but the interactions both them have do in a way come off as they were past lovers and somehow in some way they got emotionally hurt.
So I’m (just like many people) happy that these 2 finally are dating again. Here’s the full compilation history of Marceline and Bubblegum’s relationship.
2. Ice King, Finn, and Betty get eaten by a demon beat, this beast has abilities that cause things to revert. So Simon’s memories come back and so does his old look before he turned into Ice King.
Yay finally, when an opening shows up for them to escape, Betty sends them out while she stays back and uses the crown to grant a wish to wish this beat out of existence which causes her to die in the process of course.
Did I mention that this show knows how to get heavy/emotional? Also, Fern dies, he has a Peter Parker moment from Infinity War, where he’s like Finn I’m not doing so well.
He just withers away in Finns’ hands, he asks Finn to plant him at their tree house. Btw the tree house is destroyed, it got destroyed during the battle, Dunn Dunn Dunn.
Here’s that emotional scene of Fern’s death.
Again I’m not crying, your crying!
Oh also Gunther the penguin takes the crown and turns himself into Ice King 2.0, this Ice king has his hair and beard covering his whole head, his eyes are the 3 red gems on the crown and he has penguin feet, uhhhhhhh.
The final thing I love about this finale is the finale scene of this show, where we get this bottomless pit singing the theme song at the end credits that always plays.
While we go through a montage of what each character is up to.
To mention just a few, Gunther the Ice King meets a woman at a library, and she drops a donut. He drops his emerald eye onto it and he picks it up for her and they marry each other.
How sweet! One of Jake’s sons became a detective, Fire Princess now performs music on stage.
Marceline and Bubblegum are now lovers and live together, and the show ends with these 2 discount Finn and Jake-like entities named Sherry and Beth, who are crawling up the new tree that grew from Fern’s seed.
On the tree is a sword and Discount Finn pulls out the sword as if it’s indicating to pass the adventure down to a new torch, a younger torch if u will.
Also before we close this review off I wanted to take a look at the episode that scared a generation of kids, and for a good reason, the episode is titled The Black Eyed Girl.

Yeah good luck sleeping tonight, also yes this show definitely dipped its toes into horror, so in this episode both Finn and Jake overhear on the radio led by this guy named Startchy, he has a caller telling him of the encounter he had with a blank eyed girl.
Jake unfortunately doesn’t believe in any of this, unfortunately Finn does. Anyways they head hole from eating pizza, they get a knock at the door and they open it just to see a blank eyes girl.
That right there folks is what made me along with hundreds or thousands of other kids to turn off the TV and say nope.
But I continued, oh if u continue u will get to see a blank-eyed girl starring at them through their window, eeeeeeehhhhhh.
So they call up Starchy, and he gives off some terrible advice. He first thinks the girls obey by vampire rules so he says don’t invite them in, the girl enters anyways.
Well oopsie, he then tells them to give her some milk in a bowl as a peace offering, Jake tries handing the blank-eyed girl a bowl of milk, and she starts extending her tongue out to pick the bowl, but instead, she curves her tongue upwards and kicks Jake’s arm, eeeeeehhhh.
Starchy tells them to play some music, instead more blank-eyed girls come in and start dancing, so the 2 of them decide to go to a library to do research, they go and ask Library Princess for help.
She googles that the blank-eyed girls first appeared 5 years ago when Starchy started his podcast, so they think they only exist because people know of them.
So they head back home and try to pretend that they don’t exist, but unfortunately Jake gets cornered by the girls and gets frightened so he can’t pretend they don’t exist.
Just then the girls all at the same time take off their blank eyes, wait this was all a prank? So Jake is about to call thr the cops, just then the girls tske off their hair and reveals they are bald.
Then start to twist their heads off like a screw, then peal their skin off like a banana, underneath are these glowing headless figures.
We see the figures go to the window, open it up then turns into dandelions, and fly off, huh? Yeah, that’s how this episode ends btw.
Well, it actually ends with BMO saying that was beautiful, oh really beautiful? Because that’s not how I’d describe that at all, more like baffled and horrified.
What a strange episode this was, it just leaves u left with like idk 100 questions after u watch it, the episode first starts off like a horror film, then ends in a way ur just gonna sit there confused about what just happened.
Anyway hope y’all enjoyed this review, also again good luck trying to get some sleep.
