Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2012: Let’s start by showing y’all the trailers shall we?

Oh, and I also wanna quickly introduce y’all to what I consider one of the best versions of the TMNT themes I’ve ever heard.

Catchy I know right? Now without further due let’s get into the review. Wow that rhymed, it was completely unintentional.

So the plot rundown is essentially

In this Nickelodeon animated 2012 TV series we get a different story of the TMNT…..and what I’d consider a good difference in my opinion….so we all know the story of the Turtles we all know that, but this show changes some things.

Such as usual in the TMNT mythos Splinter was a rat but along with the TMNT got Mutated by some Ooze. But in this retelling of the story, Splinter was once a man named Hamato Yoshi.

He was raised in Japan, and his family fought on the good side called the Hamato Clan but one day during a raid on there enemies side the FootClan they found a baby that was known as Oroku Saki.

Anyway Hamato Yoshi’s family took in Oroku Saki, and they both grew up as brothers…they fought like brothers heck they trained as brothers….but one day when they grew up everything went downhill when both of them met their future love interest, Tang Shen….

Saki saw that Tang and Hamato got along more than they both did so he grew jealous….oh and Hamato Yoshi and Tang Shen gave birth to a girl named Miwa.

So Oroku resented his brother, also Saki started to learn about his past and once he found out his true heritage…he decided to rebuild the FootClan….anyways one night Saki attacked both Hamato and Tang while they were sleeping, oh btw Oroku Saki created spikes for his wrists so he can kill Hamato.

During the fight, he accidentally knocked over a candle that started burning their home to the ground, and the second blow which was meant to hit and kill Hamato Yoshi instead hit Tang Shen which instantly killed her.

Dunn dunnDunn, anyways Oroku Saki gets badly burnt from the fire and he leaves, blaming Hamato for the loss of Tang Shen….while leaving his brother Hamato Yoshi to die oh and he killed Hamato Yoshi’s daughter, or did he?.

Oh and Oroku Saki went on to become the Shredder….so there are 2 important things to take from this story 1. In this retelling, Master Splinter was a human instead of a rat before he became a mutated humanoid rat named Splinter.

Both Splinter and Shredder were brothers…even though that’s never been a thing before I don’t mind this change I like it….btw keep the he killed Hamato Yoshi child in mind for later. It will be important later.

Anyway also the mystery Ooze that turns Splinter into a rat man and the Turtles in the TMNT came from these aliens called the Krang. If most of y’all are new to the TMNT mythos then I’ll explain what the Krang are, they are these aliens who look like brains with tentacles and they sit in the stomachs of there robots they made.

Oh, and the robots are used to translate their language into English as well. The Krang’s whole purpose is to invade the world.

Wow what a shocker. Anyways back to them later, let me list off the Turtle’s names If some y’all don’t know who they are

Leonardo (is the leader)

Donatello (the smart nerdy tech guy)

Raphael (the angry brute)

Michelangelo (the goofy one)

And they live in the sewers in case yall didn’t know that. So I’m gonna give some broad strokes of this entire series because if I sat here and described every 5 seasons and episodes we would be here forever.

In this show we do get introduced to some familiar faces such as The Rat King, he looks a whole lot different than he does in the original animated show. In that show, he looked like a normal guy wearing a hunter like outfit oh and he could talk to rats.

But in this show oh he looks different, but first let me give some context to his character…in this show, in an episode, the Turtles learn from a scientist named Victor Falco that his partner named Rockwell had disappeared, so the Turtles go locate him and finds out that he got turned into a humanoid monkey who can’t speak.

So they take him back to Falco who promises to cure him.

So the Turtles head home but they find out that nope he was lying so it turns out that Falco mutated Rockwell into that monkey so he can use him to experiment on to give himself powers.

So they head back to Falco who has now injected himself with a power to read people’s thoughts.

So he now can see what moves the Turtles will do next, and they end up defeating him.

Yay, anyways he does return later on in another episode where he still has his powers and he’s experimenting in his lab until the chemicals he’s working on catch fire burning the place that burns him.

Anyways he calls out to the rats to help him because yes now he can talk to rats…and this is how he becomes The Rat King….and yes he looks extremely different, in this show he is skeletal looking, has a black fedora type hat, wears a white cloth across his red pupils.

He wearing a long black trench coat that covers his entire body. I did say he looks different.

Anyway, he does become a threat because since he has the powers to control rats he ends up trying to take over Splinter’s mind, which sometimes he loses control.

Now I’m gonna list a couple of other villains and good guys introduced in this show….we also got Baxter Stockman, he in this universe is never treated right, heck some of the times the Turtles mispronounce his name by calling him Baxter Stickman?

lololo Anyways he ends up being mutated into a mutated fly person. No, not the fly, get that thought out of your heads now lolo, he ends up working with Shredder.

Oh right I didn’t even begin to describe what Shredder looks like.

Well in an episode in season one where 2 of Shredders men get mutated. Named Chris Bradford who becomes a mutated humanoid dog named DogPound. No I wish I was kidding and Xever who becomes a mutated fish named FishFace.

Take a guess who gave them both there names? Michelangelo, he’s all about naming mutants for some reason.

In this episode, Shredder is introduced and the Turtles take him for granted they lose against him but still….so Shredder in this show is tall and bulky in his chest, wrists, and lower legs, wears metal plates on his chest, metal plates on hisand  legs with spikes.

The same on his wrists, the spikes though extend out on the ones around his wrists, he wears dark purple gloves, a dark purple Sleeveless shirt, and dark grayish pants.

He wears a metallic samurai helmet that has a mouse piece which is used to 1. Be a symbol of his clan and 2. Cover up his scars.

Also sometimes he wears a cape but other times he doesn’t. So this is the Turtle’s first introduction to Shredder he bests them in a battle heck they barely make it out alive so they were lucky to make it out alive.

Anyway little later on in this show the Turtles meet this girl named Karai.

The Turtles can’t tell if she’s friend or foe….because sometimes she attacks them also she controls the FootClan as well…and sometimes she helps them out, she makes her disdain for Shredder abundantly clear, yeah she hates him…but we find out eventually why that is….it ain’t important now, oh also she has short black hair with blonde hair in the back, wears a black tight suit and has metal plates on her arms and legs.

Anyways moving on so I wanna mention a few mutants in this show there are

Bebop

Rocksteady

Bakster Stockman (aka the fly)

Tiger Claw

So how does this all end? Who’s Karai? Will Shredder die? All will be revealed in the spoilers, but first, let’s get the rating out of the way.

Overall yeah this show is gonna get a solid 10/10, I highly recommend it. If y’all want a dark tone to A TMNT story then this show delivers.

U know how I just alluded to the show is a bit darker than other TMNT adaptations? Just to give an example. Michelangelo names their new vehicle that Donnie makes for them, The Shell-Raiser, 10 points to whomever got that reference.

Anyways moving on so this is all gonna get a bit wonky because of how much I fell off the show.

Come to the end of a 2 parter, the Turtles take on the Krang while Splinter takes on Shredder. What Splinter finds out is that Karai is his long-lost daughter Miwa. That’s right Shredder took his own brother’s daughter away and let him think for a long time that his daughter died with his wife.

What a piece of shite, anyways heres the fight between Splinter and Shredder,

Shredder gets his ass beaten up, good he deserved it. Unfortunately, Karai comes and prevents Splinter from killing her father, ouch.

In a specific 2 partner, Karai learns the truth of who she is, so she goes and seeks Splinter out. When she finds out the whole story from Splinter,

“The blow that was meant for me struck ur mother instead, Shredder blamed me and in his rage, he burned our house to the ground leaving me to my fate”

She goes and tries to kill Shredder alone, a bad decision.

She gets captured and she gets tied over a vat of mutagen, Shredder uses her as bait to lure out Splinter.

Leo tries to save Karai by freeing her from the cage. But thanks to Shredder fighting he accidentally cuts the chains which causes her to fall into the vat which mutates her into a snake.

Gasp, yeah this entire scene is just depressing, oh and the lab starts getting set on fire, and Baxtor Stockman who’s a mutated fly is complaining his lab is on fire. Shredder blames Splinter for their daughter getting mutated.

Full-blown narcissist, can’t take any accountability for his own actions. And instead blames it on anyone else, yeah Shredder is loathable.

So now here’s where I start going all over the place.

Come to a 1 part episode of a specific season, this alien invasion happens where these rhino aliens come down and have an object that’s gonna destroy the earth by sucking it into a void.

So Splinter and April and Casey Jones (yes this show has Casey Jones, and my favorite version of the character as well) go recruit Shredder and his team to help them save the world.

Of course, at first, he doesn’t want to because he still hates Splinter and will always hate Splinter, but April appeals to him by saying do this for your daughter if there’s any good in u.

So he and his team help the gang out to save the world from blowing up, spoilers as the machine is about to go off and they run towards the machine to turn it off, Shredder takes this moment to stab Splinter in the back killing him.

Oh, u dumb F**k, so now the world is being sucked into a void, Tiger Claw says what have u done Shredder? Shredder says I don’t care what happens to the earth, Hamato Yoshi is finally dead, SMH.

So this Is where I dipped off for a while. But then I returned near the end of the series in a 3 part finale where Shredder becomes super Shredder after getting injured and being on life support.

So now the gang has to stop Super Shredder, along with the help of Splinter, yesh Splinter is because because they trimed traveled back in time.

Long story short Splinter dies again by Shredder, but this time super Shredder, the gang tricks him into falling into a dumpster, they crush him but he survives.

The finale battle against him takes place in a mansion, where they plan to inject him with an anti mutagen which Donnie has created, he only created one unfortunately. And worse Michaelangelo uses it on Baxtor Stockman.

Womp womp, he complains at them and says if I wanted to be a human again I’d already done that to myself, why do u think I didn’t? I was coll! No trust me dude your not.

So now Leo fights against Shredder on top of the house that’s been set on fire, why Leo alone? Because the gang got tossed off the house, the battle ends with Leo taking his sword and running towards Shredder and decapitating him.

He walks near the ledge of the house and is holding Shredder’s head and he says Shredder is finished, then tosses his head onto the floor in front of them.

Good finally, but also dang that’s dark. Oh, come to the series finale we have a 3 part series not a season but a series finale where the OG Tuttle from the 80s coke through a portal and tram up with our Turtles to take on the 80s Krang and Shredder who also come through the portal.

BTW these variants are Goofy as all heck, Shredder and Krang come off more as bumbling buffoons, and the Turtles are also buffoons. They judge our Turtles for using their weapons, they say using weapons is a bad thing.

Oh jeepers, yeah for Ninja Turtles they really auck at being ninjas and using weapons, anyways I just thought I’d quickly mention that those 3 episodes are actually worth watching. They are funny, seeing 2 groups of Turtles having to team up, with both variants judging each other is pretty funny.

Anyway I hope y’all enjoyed this review,
