Avatar 2009

Avatar 2009 🌱

Let’s start off with stating the fact…..this film is 13 years old and it still holds up to this day….guys and gals I absolutely recommend u watch this film….just for the spectacles…..now if ur going in expecting a plot then u will be disappointed….because the plot is very generic and simple…..in fact way to simple….anyways here’s the trailer…..enjoy

Firstly the rating, well similar to my Avatar way of water review I love

The soundtrack

The cinematography

The world building

The locations

Things I didn’t like

The characters feel one-dimensional (mainly the villains) to the point they come off more as caricatures than characters…..I think they need to flesh out the villains a little more, outside of Hey, they have ore. We want it, we going to burn their place for it, we bad…

On a side note I remember seeing this film in theatres back in 2009, that was such an experience.

But I will say this, almost everyone’s reaction to this film after it was done was “Well…….that was a thing” Yeah that’s true it was definitely a thing. Really these 2 films are just visual spectacles and that’s it, the story for both films is so paper thin that they are barely important.

So overall I’ll give Avatar 2009 a solid 5/10….

Warning ⚠️, massive spoilers ahead for a 13-year-old film….lolo

So to summarize this plot so I can get to what I enjoyed and didn’t enjoy……humans come to this planet called Pandora so they can mine its ore there, which is called unobtanium….., which is a dumb name by the way……Unobtanium? How’s that a fitting name when they are able to obtain it? Get the hell out of here with that name.

Anyways, if you’re wondering, why they are doing this? Well, for you see, because of money…..plus the earth is on the brink of dying, so I guess they think tossing money at the issue will fix it….

Btw the boss guy in this film is so one note generic to the point he plays golf in his office and around his men working, oh and eats bags of nuts while talking. Oh what a douchebag, but the issue is since everyone in this film is so generic and boring I never once cared for the characters. They are a bunch of walking tropes.

I don’t know how, but I do feel like this is how humanity in real life would act like if the earth was dying…….and they get to this planet, want Jake to enter an Avatar body to then go find the tribes the Navi…to come up with a peaceful solution to get them away from there big tree where the ore is located under……

That’s the plot in a nutshell like I said it’s simple…a little too simple….. anyway so they get to the planet…..

Oh, btw no one in this dystopian future cares about people in wheelchairs, when the soldiers see Jake Sully come off the helicopter in a wheelchair. One guy says oh that’s just wrong, really? Is it wrong to be in a wheelchair? Screw u then.

Oh, btw Jake Sully feels like a nothing of a character if u ask me, the best way I can describe him is he feels like one of those default video game characters u load into a new game with until u create ur own character, yeah that’s how generic he is.

U can replace him with a pile of rocks and u would get the same amount of emotions from them as from this character.

Jake is told by Colonel Quaritch that if he does what he asks of him he will make sure that Jake gets back his legs because he’s a cripple and he would wanna walk again….btw this colonel dude looks ripped, and also has a grey-haired buzzcut…..

Yep, he doesn’t seem oh so evil at all….hmmm…anyways they take him into a room and introduce him to Dr. Grace played by Sigourney Weaver, she tells him that they don’t need u ur pathetic blah blah….but they do need him so they put him in a pod…his mind transfers into his avatar body, he wakes up is all happy because he can now walk…which is understandable.

And yes Colonel Quaritch is such a one-note generic military dude down to the dialog he says, literally he gives a quote on quote pep talk to his men by saying this generic line “Ur not in Kansas anymore, if there is a Hell. U might want to go there to get training”.

Like really? “Ur not in Kansas anymore” what am I supposed to get from this guy except for generic number 100 military guy portrayed on film.

BTW dialog in this film ranges from cringe at moments in this film, for instance, there’s a scene where our main trio are in the map room with Colonel Quaritch and their boss, this is what Sigourney Weaver says to Colonel Quaritch “Or what, ranger Rick u gonna shoot me?” Which Colonel Quaritch says “I can do that” Ah yes stellar writing “Ranger Rick” groaaaan.

There’s no lines in this film that are quotable, unless u want to go around quoting “Ranger Rick” Yeah good luck with that one.

So here’s a summary of what happens.

• Sully gets introduced to the Navi, thanks to Sigourney Weaver. Sully ends up meeting a Navi named Neytiri, he ends up falling in love eventually and feels like he fits as a Navi then a human.

I mean fair all the humans in this film are portrayed as dicks.

• Sully learns the way of the Navi, such as,

How to connect their long hair to animals so they can fly with them.

How to hunt like them.

How to live among them.

BTW this film has no build-up to Jake and Neytiri falling in love, it basically all boils down to this. I taught u the ways of my people, I taught u stuff and now I love u….ah yes because that’s all the essentials u always need for a good relationship, SMH.

• The humans eventually make their way to the giant tree the Navi live at, why? So they can tear it down for the mineral they want, again humans suck.

Sully asks them to let him have a few minutes to go down there and evacuate them, their boss sends him down there and says he’s got 5 minutes tops.

So Sully tries to warn them, he tells them he’s a human. Uh oh, which angers one of the Navi who didn’t trust him this entire time. Also, do the humans stop? Hell no, they tear through the massive tree which forces the Navi to leave.

So the humans mine the ores, and the Navi leave. Neytiri’s father who’s the chief gets killed off, Sully and Sigourney Weaver, and Norm get taken out of their tubes and put into a cell.

Guess how they escape? Trudy who’s played by Michelle Rodriguez comes and saves them. She pretends to bring them prison food but she breaks them out instead.

They make their way to a helicopter outside (but first gotta put masks on or they can’t breathe). Colonel Quaritch and his men get notice of this and Quaritch goes outside and tries shooting them down with a handgun. Jesus what a monster, btw he steps outside without a mask on. He just holds his breath in.

Yay the heroes escape, but unfortunately, Dr. Grace gets shot, uh oh so now they have to take her to the Navi to see if they can cure her.

Unfortunately no they can’t save her, even though they try to transfer her body into a Navi body, she dies Unfortunately.

So now they all team up to go to war against the sky people (Is what they call the humans) so they head on their flying creatures, with their bows and arrows ready to go to battle against the humans in their flying vehicles.

BTW does Jones find it odd that Sully essentially put himself into a tribes body, spent like just a few days with them and now all a sudden is their leader? Uhhhhhhhhhhh moving on.

So the entire 3rd act battle is like 20ish min long, here’s the entire battle (the videos split into 3 parts)

So to summarize up this battle,

• That Navi who hated Jake, sacrifices himself by flying into the giant heli-carrier and unfortunately he gets shot multiple times.

• Trudy dies, their ship labeled Rogue One, the engine catches fire and Colonel Quaritch has his ship finish her off by shooting her ship.

• We see some of the horses on fire and running away due to the explosions (awwww the poor animals).

• Sully gets on top of Colonel Quaritch’s Heli-carrier and takes some hand grenades to one of the ship’s engines which causes the ship to start crashing.

Also, Quaritch’s arm gets lit fire due to the explosion (but he just rubs it off like it’s nothing).

He then jumps into a mech and jumps out of the ship onto the ground floor to finish off Sully once and for all.

So he makes his way to the little station that the pods are at where Sully is in so he can be in his Avatar body. Quaritch plans to open it up and finish him once and for all, but Avatar Sully comes and fights him.

Sully is able to get some damage in, he breaks the glass of the mech which then he has to disable the lid. So now he has to put a mask on.

Just then Neytiri shows up and tries attacking him. Colonel taunts her by saying “Come to papa” all while he’s holding his giant blade in his mech hand, a creature comes out and attacks him so he stabs the creature and then tosses it onto Neytiri which pins her to the ground.

Colonel asks Sully how does it feel to betray ur own kind? Yada yada, Sully stabs him in the neck with a hand knife and somehow he’s still not dead. Yeah don’t try figuring that one out, but then Colonel Quaritch grabs Sully from his braids.

Colonel Quaritch yanks out the knife out of his neck so he can slit Sully’s throat. Just then Neytiri shows up with a bow and arrow and shoots Quaritch in the chest with the giant-sized arrow.

Yes yes finally! He drops Sully and starts gasping got air, she then comes up and shoots Quaritch again with another arrow. She starts hissing at him as Quaritch falls to the ground dead with a shocked expression.

On a side note unfortunately I cannot ever rewatch this ending and take it as seriously as I once did, now knowing that he comes back in Avatar 2, thanks James Cameron.

So anyways during all this battle, Sully’s tube gets damaged so he falls out of his tube and now needs a mask, so Neytiri goes in the building and gives Sully a mask to put on him, the film ends with the Navi sending the rest of the humans home.

Good riddance, unfortunately, they come back in Avatar 2, while this happens they transfer Sully’s mind and Consciousness into a Navi body. He’s now been fully reborn a Navi, yay! The end.

Good freaking grief these 2 reviews are long, btw if I haven’t made it abundantly clear I am not the biggest supporter of James Cameron (well not anymore), I use to back when he brought us Terminator or Alien 2 (which I’ve never seen an Alien movie before btw).

But now somewhere down the line, he’s just decided to toss away the idea of a script and just say F**k it visuals is all that matters, I’m great at visuals I got this. Anyways I’m done, also here’s a teaser for Avatar The Way Of Water.

Till next time.
