Sleepy Hallow

Sleepy Hallow: Let’s start off with showing y’all the trailers shall we?

Yes u saw that correctly, we’re reviewing the 1999  Sleepy Hallows that’s directed by Tim Burton……this story btw has the headless horsemen in it because that’s what the suspension is around….yes as in that iconic headless horseman….

BTW to give a none spoiler rundown of the plot before we get into the rating then spoilers, here’s a quick rundown of the plot and the cast….this film stars

Johnny Depp

Christopher Walken

Christina Ricci

Micheal Gambit

Miranda Richardson

Casper Van Dear

Christopher Lee

Richard Griffiths

Jeffery Jones (pedo pedo pedo!)

Micheal GAO

Ian McDermott

That’s one giant A-list casting if u ask me….so basically the plot summary is….this police constable named Ichabod Crane from New York City….is sent to investigate a number of weird murders attributed to a headless horsemen.

In the Dutch Hamlet of Sleepy Hallow, Crane’s powers of deduction are put to the ultimate test….

Dunnn dunnn dunnnn!

So now let’s get a rating out of the way so we can get into spoilers and break down this film…

Overall I actually enjoyed this creepy macabre, horror film….
I feel this was the perfect film for Tim Burton to direct, I guess we can add this to the list of Tim Burton films I’m reviewing…..also I just find the story of the headless horsemen to be an intriguing story, it both haunts me and fascinates me…..

I also got to praise Tim Burton for making the town of Sleepy Hallow look all bleak, dark, and depressing……like why would anyone wanna live there? Also, this just feels like the perfect Halloween film to watch……so I’ll give this film a solid 9.8/10, warning spoilers spoilers ahead y’all been warned…..

So as stated the young police constable named Ichabod Crane in the 1799s, is called into the town of Sleepy Hallow to investigate a slew of murders….each murder has involved deceptions…..hmmmmmm something is at foot here…

BTW wanna know why he was sent there? It’s because he went in front of a live courthouse…..he mentions that we are going into the 19th century and that he finds it bad that the cops and judicial system are using medieval torture methods to punish people….

There’s tons of innocent men and women locked in cells, also the police don’t seem to care to want to do a diagnosis on dead bodies to determine how they died because they’re religious and gotta bury the bodies intact….Jesus Christ…

BTW the Judge is played by Christopher Lee, he gets fed up and says basically u know what I’ll tell u something there’s this small town called Sleepy Hallow, and there’s been a slew of murders going on over there…

U will go there to investigate the murders, take ur experimental methods with u, and investigate the murders…..so now Ichabod has to go to well prove his methods will work…..which be a whole lot better then those medieval torture methods…

BTW a few off things he discovers in the town when he gets there…

1. The town looks like it came out of some horror book, that’s the best way I can describe it.

2. When he gets there, he sees people closing their Blinds as he passes by.

3. He meets a witch at a tavern.

He’s asked to tell them who he is, he shows them a letter that confirms he was sent there from New York to investigate the murders…..so they accept him as their guest….he gets to meet the small council where they give him all the info on the murders…..3 specific murders happened each involved decapitation….

He asks if was anyone suspected of these murders? Which they say they don’t understand? They say to Ichabod how much did ur superiors tell u? Ichabod Crane says 3 dead people were found with their heads severed from their bodies…

He gets interrupted by predator actor Jeffrey Jones, saying they weren’t found with their heads severed, heck their heads were never found….

One of them says their heads were taken back to hell by the headless horsemen……they tell Ichabod to sit down..

They tell him the horsemen was this hessian mercenary played by Christopher Walken, he was sent by German princes to keep Americans under the yoke of England….but turns out about this horseman…unlike others who did the job for money…he did it for the love of carnage, he always rode in on his giant black steed named Daredevil….he’d decapitate his victims…also he sharpened his teeth to add to the horrific look.

One winter night of 1779 he was found in the woods…when 2 girls were carrying wood and one of them snapped the wood to reveal the location…..so the horseman was finally killed and decapitated then buried, now his spirit is back somehow and continues to decapitate people….

Ohhhhhh how ominous, at first Ichabod doesn’t believe them. But let’s just say eventually he does….a 4th murder happens, the same outcome….decapitation.

Then one night he witnesses the headless horsemen who toss a flaming pumpkin at him which knocks him out….turns out this was a prank by someone in town, womp womp….during his sleep he has visions of his mother…..

Later on, the magistrate gets killed by the headless horseman….this causes Ichabod to faint….so now he’s a believer in the horseman……Crane takes a guy to take him to go locate the horseman’s grave….instead, they find a knocked down tree with a witch inside, a witch that looks like a rotting corpse…she comes to life and tells him where the horseman’s body is…

So they locate the body, which has a missing head…he puts the pieces together…he realizes someone took his head and is using him, he won’t test until his head is returned to him…and the tree is a portal to hell….just then this horseman comes riding out of the tree and rides towards the town where he goes to a house…which leads to one of the darker moments of this film…

He kills off a husband and his wife and their 4 to 5-year-old kid……yikes, yeah he decapitates all 3 of them….the kid hides under the floorboard while the mother gets brutally slane but the kid is eventually found by the horseman….

Enjoy this horrific scene.

Ur welcome, anyways uh Ichabod gets attacked by a witch, but he recovers…during his rest, he has nightmares of the fact as a kid he witnessed his mother being condemned as a Witch by his own dad….so he puts her in an iron maiden….where Ichabod found her inside….the door opened with a pool of blood pouring out of it……

Anyways the horseman is on his way so this causes the remaining elders to turn on each other….they all start attacking each other….just then the major (played by the actor who played the second Dumbledore) gets a harpoon shot through him and gets dragged through the window by the headless horseman….then decapitated..

At first, Ichabod believes this woman he met named Katrina and fell in love with…has been controlling the horseman, what makes him think that? Well, it’s because she gave him a suspicious book, turns out she was just trying to protect him….no instead the real culprit turns out to be this woman named Lady Van Tassel has been the villain all along.

Van Tassel reveals her true heritage to Katrina….she came from an impoverished family that was evicted by Van Garret when they couldn’t pay their rent….so she swore revenge against him….so she pledged herself to satan, and raised the horseman from the dead to do her bidding….

Well, that explains why the horseman killed the people he did….it was people who wronged Tassel, anyways she tries to summon the horseman to come to finish off Katrina…..but then Ichabod shows up and gives the horseman’s skull back to him…

Yep as u can see in a horrific imagery his face reforms back onto him, his flesh and muscles form over his skull….he turns back into Christopher Walken, so now the spell has been broken…

So Christopher Walken grabs the body of Tassel….he kisses her then he takes himself and her through the tree…where blood comes out of the tree when they go through it…..

Well that was that, anyways both Ichabod and Katrina get married and live a happy life together….awww how sweet, the end….anyways hope y’all enjoyed this review and remember to have an amazing Halloween ….thanks for joining me for Halloween Horror Fall….I’m glad to have shared these reveiws with y’all…

Anyways here’s a tease for the next review I’m working on, rill next time…
