The Penguin Episode 5

The Penguin Episode 5: Let’s start off with showing y’all the trailers shall we?

So this week’s episode is 1 hour and 2 min long. So we’re again dealing with another perfectly length episode.

This week’s episode continues where episode 3 left off, we get to see how Oz starts putting together his plans to become the head of the crime family.

Also in this episode Sofia distances herself away from the name Falcone, she now embraces her mother’s last name “Gigante” Honestly that’s a nice last name. I too would also dump my father’s last name if he too was as much of a prick as Carmine Falcone was.

So anyway that’s all I can say before the review enters on spoiler territory. So let’s get the rating out of the way so we can get the spoilers out of the way.

Overall I absolutely still love this show, we’re on a great streak here, this is rare for a show these days to be at a 10 out of 10 rating for each individual episode.

We still have 3 more weeks of episodes left, I still can’t wait to see where this show goes. So overall I’ll give this episode a solid 10/10, warning spoilers ahead y’all been warned.

So this episode starts off with Oz burning his car, because he and Vic are now on the run, together luckily he has a backup plan…he has some men come up in a van to pick them up, and he tells them he has a new drug shroom and he will be giving them some of the cut. A deal worth going for, but first gotta get it back from the Maroni’s.

How does he do that? Easy he goes and kidnaps Maroni’s son, why? So he can make a trade in exchange for the shrooms, oooofff. Yeah, Oz is a cold-hearted bitch, and I love him for that.

So he goes and tells Maroni and his wife that he has their son, he wants his shrooms back in exchange for their son. Again he’s cold-hearted, they agree to the exchange. Maroni’s wife will bring the shrooms along with one of her men to protect her.

She does try warning her husband that Oz will just betray them, hmmmm she’s a clever woman ain’t she? Because she’s not wrong, but they still agree reluctantly to the exchange, just to get their son back.

Anyway let’s cut to Sofia who’s the only survivor out of her family, the cops are there trying to figure out what happened, Sofia tells them they died from a gas leak and that’s it, she also scolds the chief of police because she knows after his day he will just go out drinking and blabber about Sofia’s dead family.

As if they are some sorta topic or something like that, I mean hey fair enough I see where she’s coming from. Also, he asks her where Viti is. Sofia says she doesn’t know, she was in the greenhouse all night with the little girl. Hmmmmmmm. Take 2 guesses where Viti is.

Anyway, the chief of police says we’re doing our best, we got new management….sorry for ur loss. So Sofia leaves and goes to some secret basement where her men are torturing Viti by dumping cold water on him so he can freeze to death. Unless he tells her info about where her father stashed money away from his own men so she can pay them off.

He refuses at first, so the torture continues. So back at Oz, he’s at his girlfriend’s house with his men and Maroni’s son. She wants them to get out (I mean fair enough). Vic is watching on the news about Sofia’s family died in a gas leak and how she’s the only survivor.

Anyways Oz tells Vic that he needs him to go take care of his mom for him, Vic says he got this he will.

Anyways they go to an underground garage to do the exchange, Oz sends one of his men to go shank Maroni in prison. Womp womp, btw his men fails at killing Maroni. What a shocker.

Anyways Oz sees the truck filled with the shrooms as promised, so he tells the son to go walk to his mom which he does, she embraces him. A gun shooting happens because one of Maroni’s men come our and starts shooting at them with a machine gun.

Oz hides behind a car and they continue to shoot, after that happens Oz takes a lighter then flicks it on. Tosses onto the floor where gasoline is. Well the gasoline is dripping off of the son because Oz dosed him in gasoline then taped the guy’s mouth up so he can’t say what’s happening to his mom.

I love the parallels here between Sofia and Oz, Sophia doses Viti in cold water, and Oz doses Maroni’s son in gasoline. Sofia is trying to make a new family with the underlings who got wronged by Carmine, Oz wants to make a new family by recruiting underlings who are always under appreciated.

It’s like poetry it rhymes.

Anyways the flame goes up to the son engulfing them in flames alive…..so they start screaming as they’re cooked alive, jeepers, did I forget to mention Oz isn’t a great guy?

I can’t tell if this is a power move or desperation.

So he leaves with his men, he finds out the shrooms are dead, womp womp. Where’s he gonna grow more?

He gets a call from his men but it turns out it’s Maroni, he tells him he escaped because thanks to him because he took the guy’s keys….that now Oz’s ass is toast….which Oz says oh toast? That’s funny how about try calling up ur wife let’s see if she answers the phone.

Ohhhhhhh too soon Oz, too soon. Anyways so uh Viti eventually makes himself loyal to Sofia….he tells her how he was her mom’s cousin, that he’s the one who introduced her to Carmine, well I’d just shoot him now and end it there.

But nope she doesn’t, what happens is she has a plan….also her therapist shows up and basically says Hey I want to have that power like u, so let’s do this together….so they enter the table room where all of Carmine’s men are, including Viti. He tells them to sit down.

She basically says to everyone her dad fucked them over and fucked up her, she tells them were done with the war against the Maroni’s, and she then takes a gun out and kills Viti…..good riddance.

She then tosses a bag of money on the table and tells the men if they pledge themselves to her they will have a new family and will be paid properly this time. Oh and they are now changing the name from Carmine’s to Gigante. Which was her mom’s last name.

So we don’t continue too long here are short rundowns of what happens next.

• Oz goes and sees his girlfriend but she doesn’t want to go with him until he gets out on top of everything, she just doesn’t want to follow him into a death trap at the moment, I mean fair enough.

• Vic goes to get Oz’s mom, her dementia is getting worse, and she accidentally leaves the stove on almost burning the house down. She’s in her bedroom and mistaking Vic as her son. Ugh, that’s depressing.

• Vic takes her away to a rundown apartment to stay low for a while. She’s upset because this reminds her of the place she used to live in when she gave birth to her kids. Also, she’s still mad at Oz for now yet ruling the underworld.

• Sofia Gigante goes and visits Maroni in his hideout, which is this nice small wooden house….she comes in with a gun and a man of hers. She sits across from him. She tells him that her father used to think the Maroni’s love for each other, treating each other like a real family was a weakness.

Which Maroni says that’s because u Falcone’s eat each other up, I mean he’s not wrong. She also agrees. She says that long ago this car driver of hers spun this bullshite story about her, so she got punished for it. Now he’s affecting Maroni, both she and Maroni are left to suffer thanks to what Oz has done.

Yeah look even though I follow Oz, I don’t condone what he does. Because she isn’t wrong, what he’s done to her and him is utterly fucked up.

He asks why are u here? She says I’m here to end the war between us….she puts the gun down and says I’m not gonna kill u. He asks why. She says because that’s what Oz wants…..Maroni says our families have always had a rivalry against each other, she says the Falcone’s are dead, and there’s only The Gigante’s.

I’m offering an alliance, we kill Oz then we can rule the underworld…..oh yeah Oz is screwed, u got 2 people who want his head.

• Oz goes to visit his mom, he tries to comfort her in bed, but she forces him to get off her….because she’s upset, anyways Oz goes and tells Vic he’s done good.

Then he takes him down to a secret underground railway place where he and his brother used to hang out. He turns on the generator, the lights turn on. He then tells Vic this will be our new place of operation, this is great.

I do have to agree, giving Oz an underground railway play of operation. Ok I can dig this, I’m excited.

Anyway, the power turns off and that’s where the episode ends. Also here’s the preview for episode 6.

Anyway, I hope y’all enjoyed this review, I’m still in love with this show, it’s such an amazing series. Plz HBO and WB give us more Batman-related shows like this in the Matt Reeves Batman universe. This series is just so dang good, and again we’re only 5 episodes in out of 8. But so far this series is a 10/10.

Until next time, take care y’all.
