The Penguin Episode 2: Let’s start off by mentioning a few things.

Firstly this episode this week is 56 min total, so slightly under the length of the first episode. But still long enough. We’re still keeping the same consistency, let’s keep it rolling.

Also sorry there’s no trailer for this episode, but whenever there’s a trailer for an episode I’ll make sure to put it in the episode review from now on.

Secondly moving forward will be continuing to release a review of each individual Episode of The Penguin on Tuesdays.

Thirdly I know of late some people aren’t a fan of Matt Reeves’ Batman universe, specifically this show because recently the director of this show (who is not Matt Reeves) said he is not a fan of comic books. Also that he is making this grounded in reality. So fans are upset about that.

Ok I can see a case for both arguments, but the fact people are having trouble with Matt Reeves Batman being too grounded in reality (which means we probably will never get Mr. Freeze or Man-Bat, or Ras Al Gul) but hey It’s whatever.

Yet somehow they give The Dark Knight Trilogy a pass? That Trilogy is also grounded in reality…..but now they have an issue here with Batman being grounded in reality? What the hell is going on here?

See this is why I don’t really like fan bases, anyways sorry for the rant. Now let’s get the rating out of the way so we can get into spoilers.

Also me personally I do like how this show sticks within The Batman 2022 world/tone. I do like how the show goes with the whole mafia angle.

Overall I’m still absolutely loving this series so far, 2 episodes in this series are still catching my attention. I’m really excited to see what the next 6 weeks of episodes will bring us. But for now we got episode 2….I hope y’all are enjoying this series so far as well.

So I’m gonna give Episode 2 of The Penguin a solid 10/10, yeah I know I’m baffled as well. But we’re on a really good run with this series at the moment. So warning spoilers ahead y’all been warned.

So this episode starts off with showing us Sofia Falcone still struggling from being in Arkham, she sees her therapist, where she has a full blown panic attack and images of her brother visiting her while in Akham….then her brother getting shot. Yeah something tells me she’s not all right.

Hell her therapist has to grab ahold of her and calm her down by saying it’s all right all while she’s wailing her arms around being like ahhhhhhh! Yeah I don’t think she’s alright….granted Arkham Asylum will do that to u.

Also here’s a small detail relating to Sofia…..we see her in this episode wake up inside a closet, yeah she sleeps on the floor of a closet….I wonder if it’s because it gives her the same confined space of a prison cell which she probably prefers…..yeah no she’s definitely not alright.

Anyways Oz goes and visits Salvatore Maroni in Black Gate Prison where he tells him u little rat…u what thought I’d take the fall for ur little scheme that u had? Why don’t I just tell the truth to Sofia and end this war u started…..I was wondering how long it be until he caught on to The Penguin’s plan. And how long it be until he confronts him.

Granted Oz convinces Salvatore not to kill him, that he will make promise on moving the drugs and money out….he tells him to get it done as he said….even though his 2 family members I think who are sitting next to him, Idk who they are. They do speak in a different language and tells him that Penguin is not to be trusted basically…

But Salvatore takes a chance, I can’t wait to see how much this will come back to bite him in the butt….but also Oz is playing both sides, so the night comes he’s transferring the drugs and money which just so happens to be the Falcone’s money and drugs…Oz is riding along in the armored truck they are riding.

When they get close to the bridge, Maroni’s men come out of cars and shoots them, Oz joins and shoots the men in the truck.

What a sneaky little bird he is….wait he’s no bird, hrs a Penguin…..hehe hehe, bad pun alert.

Anyway, he regroups with the Falcone’s, they are in a meeting with Sofia’s uncle.

Sofia gets a bit hot-headed she wants her brother’s murderers to be hanged…..She tells that to her uncle after the meeting….he tells her to relax, the funeral for her brother is tomorrow yada yada.

Also, we can see she is clearly kept out of family meetings, she’s being left out.

Oz catches her as she leaves and basically offers his assistance and help….which Sofia is suspicious of him because all of a sudden he’s willing to help her. She says ur just wanting to hold onto any resemblance of honor and dignity u may have….I owe u nothing, which he tells her you’re right u dont….I do.

How long can Oz keep lying to her, anyways that night at Oz’s apartment he invites his friends and some women, along with a woman he knows.

Yep that kinda get together, while that’s happening Sofia is out at a bar where a detective is at, who once helped her father….she wants this detective to find out who murdered her brother..

He first says I don’t want any part of this. Sorry, but I can’t….he tries walking away but he gets stopped by her Lackey. She offers him the eye drop drug for his condition…she says u can do it now if u want.

Which he uses it, he asks her why don’t u ask ur family? Which he says u expect a rat I ur family? Which she says yes…. and he tries to walk away… but her lackey gives him cash, which she says I want u to be discreet….he says I’ll see what I can dig up.

Anyways at Oz’s party….he hooks up a woman with Vic, while Oz goes to his bedroom where his lady friend follows him into…where she finds out he killed Sofia’s brother and that’s why he wants her help…she says she can’t do this because she doesn’t want Sofia Falcone to come knocking on her front door…that he’s playing a dangerous game.

No shite Sherlock, anyways next morning Oz gets a call from his house….so he and Vic heads to his mom’s house…..turns out his mother had a dementia attack where she mistaken today as Sunday and that she needs to go to church….which is what she kept telling this Spanish guy that Oz hired to watch an eye on her…

Anyway he pays the guy cash, he tells him to watch an eye on his mom for him, and then Vic shows him the door.

Oz turns on some music and starts dancing with his mom….who his mom struggles standing up. She starts complaining that Oz promised her a better life…he says I know I’m working on it, Vic tells Oz the funeral is soon…

So they both head to the funeral. Anyway after the funeral, he locates Sofia outside having a smoke…he tells her a story about how when his brother died they didn’t have a funeral for his brother…and that his mom took care of him.

Anyways Sofia gets called away to the detective she hired….he shows her he brought an almost dead guy from the hospital, apparently this guy is connected to the Maroni’s and can tell them info…

So Sofia has the detective and her lackey take him to the basement so they can question him….while this is happening Oz is being interrogated by Maroni’s mother I think? Or wife? Anyway, she’s upset that Sofia took this guy out of the hospital….also she’s upset that some of her men got killed and she wants her men back.

She says to Oz u betrayed us and we don’t take that lightly, so she has her men stab Oz but he gets them to stop by telling her I have something in my jacket pocket….her man takes this folder out his jacket pocket and takes it to her…

It’s a folder of these revealing images of this guy who works for the Falcone’s who Oz has met….this guy in the pics is having sex with Luca’s wife, uh yikes. He says this can take down the Falcone’s if this came out, well no shite this is blackmail….also sorry I forgot to mention this last week but this guy who Oz knows who’s in this Pic is the same actor who played The Croat in The Maggie and Negan Spinoff show…perfect casting for scumbag.

Anyways so Oz has got his way out of this one, she tells Oz to go bring the guy to them. Man Oz is getting in things way too deep, anyways Sofia heads into the memorial service…where a bunch of different people start giving her the side eye because people are questioning the fact that Arkham let The Hangman out of Arkham.

Yeah, I’m as well curious how she got that nickname, clearly, she’s seen as an outsider….also people think she wasn’t released from Arkham because she’s healed….no because Arkham ran out of room and needed to release prisoners.

That might be the case, also they don’t like her because she apparently killed tons of people by hanging them.

Anyway, Sofia bumps into a friend of hers who introduces her daughter…..awww how sweet.

Anyways while this happens, Oz sneaks into the room where the guy who got taken from the hospital is being tied up….while he has Vic put the jewelry in the guy’s car…

But he gets caught by security so he runs away….uh oh, so Oz goes in the room and tries to convince the guy to tell them to tell them that it was a Maroni who killed Alberto Falcone…

And he will help him out if he does so, which the guy says I will tell them the name….Oz gets a call from Vic, where he tells him he couldn’t put the jewel in the car and that security is after him…..so Oz hangs up and looks over at the tied-down patient and says plans have changed. U got to give them something solid, they’ve been suspecting me and I can’t have that..

So he puts his hand over the guy’s mouth and pulls out a knife and proceeds to stab the guy in the chest until he bleeds out….jeepers it’s heinous these dirty work Oz does….

Anyways he sneaks out, while Sofia brings her uncle back to the room where he’s scolding her saying u should have come to me and not gone behind my back, which she says I did come to u which u told me to leave my dead brother alone so I did go behind ur back…there’s a traitor in this family and I brought u someone…

So they enter the room where the guy is tied up, just to see the guy laying there dead from a stab wound and blood loss…..womp womp, yep things are getting tense. Now u can see why I’m curious about this show, it’s intense.

Anyway, he tells his guards not to let anyone leave this party….no one leaves, so as Oz is trying to walk away, he gets caught by guards who shove him into a room where the guards are patting down the people to see if one of them has a knife on them because that’s the murder weapon.

Uh oh, so Oz puts the knife hidden away in his sleeves…..The Croat actor gets shoved next to him, and Oz starts pinning things on him and gets into a physical fight by pinning him to a wall….oh clever he did that so he places the knife in the guy’s pocket….Oz is a scumbag.

Anyway, the guards stop the fighting, Sofia and her uncle walk in and he tells them someone in here is a traitor, someone feeding information to the enemy. That ends tonight. I will not tolerate a rat.

Anyway turns out he didn’t place the knife in the guy’s pocket, it turns out he put it in Sofia’s lackey pocket….so he’s been framed, anyways he tries to plead his innocence…but her uncle Luca shoots the guy dead…..she pulls him aside telling him he was mine to kill…which he tells her I made the call.

Maybe it’s time u leave Gotham for a while for ur safety, I hear Italy is great around this time of year, which Sofia agrees and says yeah this might be good for me…some time away, anyways Oz is out in the woods with Vic who’s burying the 2 dead bodies in a grave Vic dug up….also he forces Vic to lay down in the grave next to them….uh oh I think he’s mad at Vic.

He tells Vic don’t close ur eyes, look at them…this is what happens when u choke ya understand? That’s a one-way street Vic, I almost got popped off tonight Vic. Because u Fucked up, I had to place the jewels and the knife… a lot of work for me Vic. A lot of work for me Vic a lot of work for me….

Vic tries to apologize, to which Oz says no more apologizes Vic….u wanna survive? U gotta adapt u have to respond to the environment u gotta be on ur feet u gotta be quick! Ot this is what happens! Whatever Carmine threw at me I always delivered on every God damn time!

U get what I’m saying? Which then Oz pulls up Vic from the hole….he tells him there’s no playbook for this shite kid, look I saw something in u maybe I was wrong. Maybe ur not cut out for this type of life…

Wow no really? U don’t say, because here I was thinking a kid who has a stuttering issue who only recently became homeless due to the flood and has had to steal things to make his way through life, was totally gonna adopt well in the mafia life.

Oz are u sure u just have a bad judge of character? Anyways Oz gets a call from Sofia Falcone….he has Vic bury the bodies…

Anyway the episode ends with Oz going to meet Sofia down at the catacombs where her family is buried, including her brother….she says the guy I trusted killed my brother, for what? Then she pulls a box of jewelry out and says for diamonds and jewelry.

That’s why, we found this in his apartment…this is what my brother was going after that night when he went to see u Oz… Then she says I let these old people tell me what to do but not anymore, I’m gonna take everything from them…doesn’t that sound fun? What u say Oz?

So now she wants Oz to work with her….hmmmmm idk I think she’ll regret this down the line, he says yeah….so great now they are a duo…uh oh.

Anyway here’s the promo for episode 3.
