Oddity: Let’s start off with showing y’all the trailers shall we?

Before I get any further I wanna mention that this film is an indie horror film produced by Shudder…..yep that’s 2 horror movies they’ve released this year…..first was Late Night With The Devil, and now Oddity…..

Honestly, I’m in all for supporting Indie horror films. They deserve more support……we need more of those made….

Now let’s get the rating out of the way so we can get into spoilers because, oh boy, this one is worth spoiling….

Overall I actually really enjoyed this film, this film has something unique to it…as in it flips the script halfway through the film….trust me ur gonna wanna stick around for this plot twist….also I found this film unnerving at moments…

Overall, I’ll give Oddity a solid 9/10, not perfect, but really dang good…so warning spoilers ahead y’all been warned…

So this film starts off when this woman named Dani Timmis (played by Carolyn Bracken) is left alone in this creepy-looking barn house while her husband named Ted Timmis (played by Gwilym Lee) goes to his job at the hospital…so she’s left alone…

Anyway that night this random man with one good eye comes to her door telling her someone entered her house and he needs to come in to get rid of the man….at first, she doesn’t believe him because I mean why would u? A random stranger comes to your door saying they need to enter your house in the middle of the night while ur alone…idk something is sus..

Also, the guy says he’s a patient at her husband’s hospital…

Now, why is he a patient there? Well, for u, see back flash time….he brutally murdered his wife by bashing her head in…or as they say, idk I’m just going off what the movie told me…

Anyways, will she or will she not open the door? We’ll find out later, for now present day…Dani has been murdered so Ted watches out on Dani’s blind sister named Darcy (played by the same actress who plays Dani) Darcy runs an Oddity shop…also she’s a fortune teller she says…

She can sense, and see things by touching objects from dead people…..anyways she tells Ted about this haunted hotel bell she has…of course, he doesn’t believe in ghosts, he tells her to press on it but she doesn’t….anyways, for now, he has to leave to go set in the house with his new soon to be wife named Yana (played by Caroline Menton)…

Darcy asks if she can come for dinner because it’s the anniversary of her sister’s death coming up and she doesn’t want to be alone….he says we’ll plan a night sometime in 2 weeks after they settle in…

So do u know what Darcy takes that as? She takes that as I should show up asap….yeah so Ted gets home to his girlfriend, and she mentions how she can’t sleep there alone while he’s gone…she has been taking Pics on his dead wife’s camera and has been seeing his dead wife’s ghost in the pics…

But again Ted doesn’t believe in the supernatural, he’s a man on science….anyways so Yana wants to go to a motel until Ted settles into his job and gets normal hours so he doesn’t work at night, once his boss retires…

So as she’s about to leave…..guess what shows up?  Box from Darcy….and Darcy herself…..womp womp, so Ted invites her in….Darcy asks are u 2 here? Ted says no, I’m about to go to work, and Yana is about to go stay at a motel…

Darcy says I’m here now. Can u just call in sick….he says no. So Darcy says fine can I stay here while u botha re gone? Yana shakes her head no to Ted, but he says yeah sure fine….seriously why did u do that?

Yana isn’t happy about this she doesn’t want her here….so Darcy goes and opens up the box, we the audience don’t get to see what’s inside for right now but it’s something repulsive…Also Darcy says it’s a gift for u 2 from me….

U know how I know it’s repulsive? Because they both look at each other, and Yana says, “And what about that thing?” What is that? Which Ted says, idk? But when Darcy leaves, we will get rid of it….

Ok, seriously, what’s this thing? Anyways, Ted leaves…..Yana is about to leave, but she can’t find her keys. Ok, this is suspicious….Darcy is just sitting there saying, “Did u find ur keys and all that….Yana never ends up finding her keys, so now she’s stuck there…

Something telling me Darcy had something to do with that, so she cooks dinner for the both of them….Yana does not Darcy…

Anyways the box disappears to somewhere….Darcy said she didn’t move it…ok this woman is weird, I don’t trust her….heck during dinner she weirds out Yana by telling her she’s psychic, keeps asking how long Ted and her been dating….and all that, she’s afraid Darcy will kill her…yeah understandable….

Oh btw remember that guy with 1 good eye? Yeah, he’s gonna be released in 1 week….this doctor guy named Ivan who works under Ted comes into the guy’s room…and says oh ur the guy who killed ur wife….how can they just let someone like u out there again? Go back to bed…

Also that night Ivan is playing a chess game with Ted in Ted’s office…. Anyway Ivan invites Ted to go out on a car ride with him to strangle crosses….sorry what? He also tells Ted I didn’t know Dani has a blind twin sister, the other day I went into this Oddity store….I almost got a heart attack seeing her…

I wonder why, anyways so back to Yana….she calls up Ted to tell her she wants to leave and can’t find the keys so she’s gonna call an Uber soon….he tells her to just say goodnight to Darcy then she goes to her room and lock the door…but here’s the thing Darcy is already unconscious….she was talking then fell unconscious, ok I’m weirded out…

So Yana heads to the restroom to cool off, and she hears these weird noises out of her restroom….she comes out of it…she appears over a railing down towards Darcy who’s sitting upward on the couch asleep as she was…then Yana looks back down and noticed the gift she gave them…

It’s this wooden cutout mannequin with a screaming anguish-looking face…..yeah that’s such a weird gift to give someone, Darcy explained earlier in her family this gift is a normal gift to give newlywed people which Yana says we are not married yet so maybe u should take that thing back…

Which Darcy says u don’t like it? Which Yana says honestly no I find it to be a strange gift to give someone….yeah no kidding I don’t disagree…but that’s rude to say…

Anyways she notices the mannequin look up at her. She then looks back and sees Darcy…she heads down to where she’s sitting…where she notices the mannequin guy sitting across the table just staring at her…btw I’ll insert an image here of the mannequin, warning it’s scary looking…

Anyway she goes up to the mannequin…proceeds to put her hand into his mouth to find the keys, instead, she takes her hand out as soon as she hears a noise coming from it when she puts her hand near its mouth…then she notices these circular holes in its head…so she takes a pair of tweezers..

Proceeds to pull things out of it…what she finds out finding is horrifying…she finds

•mysterious pics of Darcy with her twin sister and of a random man.

• a lock of hair.

• a tooth

• a vile of blood.

What the hell did Darcy give them as a gift? So Darcy wakes up and screams put them back in him!….then Yana runs to her room gets into her bed proceeds to look through the camera…

She stumbles onto a video of Dani and Ted in a tent in the attic….they are staying in there while there’s no furniture….she says this is kinda romantic wouldn’t u say Ted…she aims the camera at him where we see Ted wearing a blanket over his head…she takes it off him and he shivers and says it’s cold…

She then gets cozy and replays the video….Dani says I find this romantic wouldn’t u agree Ted? Then she aims the camera at him except this time it’s not Ted, no it’s instead the ghost of Dani….with scratches over her face and pale eyes…

Yana throws the camera on the floor, and notices the ghost in the corner of her room… the ghost screams run! So Yana runs out, to notice Darcy knocked out on the table with her arms spread out to the mannequin….Yana opened up the box and found the keys inside, knew Darcy had something to do with this…also good run run now..

So Yana drives off, finally, this was getting weird….so then Ted drives back home, where she can’t locate Yana anywhere or get ahold of her….he ends up finding Darcy in a praying position in the attic for some reason….also now it’s time for the plot twist. And trust me this plot twist will throw u off a bit….

So Darcy starts talking and says I want Ivan here so I can kill him, he tells her u needs to be checked out at my hospital….she says so u can lock me up? No way…which Ted says I can and will if I deem u to be a danger….she says I am a danger to Ivan, which she says good actually take me in but make sure Ivan is the one who takes me so I can kill him…

Ted says whT do u have against Ted? She says he murdered my sister…

She explains that night her sister didn’t open that door for the stranger…she worth upstairs into her tent when she heard a noise, she looked through her camera and noticed someone standing outside her tent…this camera is set to take pics every couple seconds btw….

So she hides inside, but she opens the tent where she sees this creepy doll face with a hood…standing in front of her with an axe….then he rams into the tent. In the next shot we see the guy standing outside with blood everywhere in the tent…

Ted says tell me even if that’s true why would Ivan kill Dani? They didn’t know each other… and then Darcy says because u told him to…. dun dun Dunn!

What a twist, so yeah it turns out Ted is a god-awful piece of shite….u know how up to now we the audience were thinking these 2 defenseless people are being haunted by this weird blind woman and her mannequin? They don’t deserve this….this is the typical haunting type of film…

Turns out nope, turns out Ted is evil….so if ur wondering why Ted told Ivan to murder Dani…well get this Ted has been having an affair with her….so he wants Ivan to kill her so he sent framed…and why not just get a divorce? Easy because in his words she’ll not get over me….

Ok, I slightly chuckled at that….because that’s got to be the weirdest reason I’ve ever heard for murdering ur spouse…..also he wants to keep the house…he tells Ivan to kill her inside the tent so no blood gets all over the house…and make it seem like an accident…

Wow, Ted is a piece of shite…also she tells him I want toe expose u for who u r…and make u lose everything u have including ur respect/job u have….

Anyways, Ted  gets up and opens this latch to a trapdoor, he puts his phone on the floor and says look I can’t get reception here so I’m gonna go back to my work call the cops to call u to explain to u that Dani’s killer is the blind man….

When u hear the phone ring answer it…..Darcy, I wouldn’t do this…also this is where I SMH, and said so wait a minute Darcy let me get this straight so ur plan was to scare Yana away so she doesn’t have to die or bare witness to Ted…which ok fair because he’s a piece of shite…

So it seems u had this all planned out. Heck u uses ur wooden mannequin to help aid u…also why was she so certain it wasn’t the blind man? Because she touched an object he had and it revealed no he wasn’t the killer…..he instead was the guy who warned her…

So again her plan seems full proof…however why the hell would u Darcy feel like u need to explain ur plan to the deranged nut job ur trying to expose who u know is evil? That’s stupid. Also she can’t be serious and fall for his call trick…right?

Anyways he rings up the phone, we see her try to go towards the phone, oh boy…..Ted then sends Ivan to the house…..he ends up locating that mannequin at the table which startles him….then he goes up to the attic and finds Darcy flat on the floor under the trapdoor….blood everywhere behind her…

Yeah she fell, wow who could have seen this coming….also Ted is a dick, this is taking advantage of a blind person….he did this on purpose…anyways Ivan calls up Ted and says oh the damage isn’t good, it won’t make it….

Hmm, get it because if the cops trace back to their phone calls they won’t sound suspicious since they never said Darcy or they or this human is gonna die hurray….

Anyways just then Darcy puts her hand on her chest….which starts to control the mannequin, Ivan goes downstairs and sees the mannequin standing….then the mannequin starts walking towards him, which startles him….

He tries to escape but he gets an injured leg so he has to crawl away…but the mannequin makes it to him and starts to squeeze his head, unfortunately not Darcy she dies so she can’t control the mannequin to squash his head…

Well, this has got to be by far the worst unplanned revenge I’ve ever seen in my life…. Anyway, Ivan wakes up in Ted’s hospital, Ted is above him telling him u told the nurses that the mannequin came to life…and chased u?

Ivan says yes, that’s what happened…. Ted says if that doll was alive then why was it so easy to burn it….yeah turns out he burns the mannequin when he gets home, oh jeepers…..he then says to Ivan u also said u want a priest…why do u want a priest? Ivan says I want to confess to the murders…

Ohhhhhh I don’t blame him, he says I won’t tell them it was u Ted, I’ll just say I did it….which Ted says but then people would start questioning me and wonder how I didn’t notice I was friends with a killer…or why I hired him…

I can’t allow u to do that, it would harm my reputation……jeepers, I badly want Ted to die but something tells me he isn’t because there 4 min left…..so he tightens the guy’s bonds…

Then Ted leaves, goes, and releases an inmate who likes to bite down on feet…. uh, he lets the guy into Ivan’s room where the guy starts hitting down on Ivan’s foot…I take it he dies from this…

Anyways Ted goes back home. He tries contacting Yana….she answers back and says u keep calling and I don’t answer, can’t u take a hint that I don’t want to talk to u? You insist on staying in that haunted house of urs…I’m starting to think ur as crazy as your patients at your hospital…

Do not contact me again, hey good on her….that relationship was going nowhere, also once again Ted is evil….anyways Ted finds a package at his front door…he brings it inside, where he opens it up….it’s the hotel bell that Darcy showed him earlier….

So out of curiosity he sits down and presses the bell….nothing happens, and no ghost shows up…no ghost of a dead doorman…..he then scoffs as he looks at the bell…the camera pans to behind him where the audience sees the ghost of the doorbell besides Ted……ummmmm.

The film ends there, I guess the implications are that Ted will either get killed by the doorbell ghost. Or go so insane he will confess eventually and then lose everything? Who knows, this film leaves it open for interpretation…. at the same time I don’t mind that but at the same time, I do mind that because I wanted to see Ted die…

Also, Darcy’s plan didn’t seem all well thought out, so she planned to expose Ted for who he is….make him lose everything including his fortune he has…so she thought best it be a good idea to scare away Yana who could have been her 1 eye witness to Ted revealing who he is? (Pun completely unintended).

A better plan would have been to ease Yana into the fact Ted is a monster….and convince her to help set up security cameras around behind items to video tape his confession….wait till Ted comes home then proceed to do the haunting to get him to confess?

But nah instead she scared who could be her 1 eye witness then proceeds to wait till Ted gets home to tell him I know u killed my sister and I’m gonna expose u….yes because that’s the smart thing to do tell the secret killer who u know is the killer that ur gonna expose him…

Oh yes I can’t see anything going wrong with that plan. Oh nope none whatsoever…..was this character written by a committee of idiots?

Anyway hope y’all enjoyed this review, I’m glad I finally got to watch this film….I rented it off of Amazon Prime, this film will however be available for streaming on September 27th on the app Shudder….
