Kingdom of The Planet of The Apes: Let’s start by showing y’all the trailers shall we?

Woah another Planet of The Apes film? When was the last one? 7 years ago!? The hell!?

Also if anyone is confused about where in the timeline does this take place in the Rebooted Trilogy of Planet Of The Apes….or is this 4th installment a reboot itself?

Well to answer both y’all questions, no this 4th film isn’t a reboot…it’s a continuation of the Planet of The Apes Trilogy….this 4th film takes place 300 years after the events of War For The Planet of The Apes….yeah 300 years Jesus lord is correct…..

So this gives the movie a chance to stand on its own, not retcon major elements/characters from the first 3 films….also this gives this film a chance to kick off a new Trilogy which the director said is the plan, he is gonna make this the start to a second Trilogy in this rebooted Planet of The Apes saga….

Also, the director of this film isn’t Matt Reeves, it’s Wes Ball….this guy directed The Maze Runner Trilogy…..which is another Trilogy I do appreciate, I’ll review those down the line sometime…

I say more power to him, I hope he can complete his vision……before we get any further let’s get the rating out of the way….so overall I love this film….it’s freaking spectacular…

I just got done watching an early screening at a theater that’s close to me…they did a 7:00 PM showing tonight (2 days before the film releases everywhere) in IMAX…..the theater room was crowded…..I also got a free poster along with it….this was a great experience….

I don’t really have any issues with this film, well ok maybe 1 issue but it barely qualifies as an issue……but will get to that in the spoilers…

So overall I’ll give this film a solid 9.9/10 I absolutely loved it…I highly recommend it, I know we’re not too far into 2024 yet but so far this film and Dune Part 2 I will say are my 2 favorite films of this year…

This film lands in 2nd place of my favorite film this year though, because number 1 goes to Dune Part 2….if I didn’t have to rank them I’d say both are amazing it’s hard to rank them…I’d have both of these films in 1st place if I could…

Ok from here on out warning ⚠️ spoilers ahead y’all been warned…..

Ok minor update y’all, the director just confirmed that there planning to make 9 of these films total…as in 5 more of these Planet of The Apes films…they’re counting the Matt Reeves Trilogy in this 9 film plan….Christ I hope this film does well at the box office then….moving on….

So this film I have to admit opens up emotionally….it opens with text telling us that humans used to be the dominant species until their hubris brought the end of them because they accidentally created a virus that wiped out humanity and made Apes smart….but one day this Apes named Caesar led his Apes to the promised land..

Then here’s this emotional part, we cut to Maurice and the Apes are placing Caesar’s dead body on a pile of wood, the Apes then proceed to put some flowers on his body….an Ape comes over with a torch, and proceeds to light Caesar on fire…..while the Apes stand around him mourning him, placing there arms up together in a symbol….then we cut to several centuries later….

Now this is where the plot starts….yeah specifically 300 years later….again damn…

So now we follow our new ape named Noa, who’s a part of this tribe called the bird tribe which I’ll explain why in a second ….also Noa has 2 friends…..anyways we see them climbing up mountains to get to these nests that hold gawk eggs….they take one each so they can raise on there own…

Noa ends up climbing a taller mountain to retrieve an egg because the first nest they find only has 3 eggs and they always only leave 1 egg behind…..so I wanna get this out the way personally to me Noa doesn’t really hold up anywhere close to Caesar….

I think it’s because we got to see Caesar grow up from an infant to a grown Ape, see him go through shite….having to lead his Apes to freedom…the struggles they went through….while here we the audience just get plopped in the middle of Noa’s life without knowing him….

So we then go see his tribe which is this peaceful tribe who raise birds….they also live in huts in the trees, so like Ewoks from Star Wars…got it..so I’m gonna skip a bit….the plot kicks in when this other group of Apes who work for their king named Proximus Caesar, find there way to this peaceful Ape village and burn down their homes….while kidnapping the apes…

If ur wondering how they found the village? Easy they followed Noa’s horse that they saw just standing alone out In an abandoned human city Noa was traveling on his horse to get another egg because his egg unfortunately broke when this human girl he had a brief encounter with earlier, snuck into their city and pushes some shelves onto him cracking the egg…

So he had to go get a new egg before his dad found out….well guess he doesn’t need to worry about that now, yeah that was a dark joke sorry…so he heads home the village is one fire…

Anyways the apes who did this are continuously saying for Caesar, Noa overhears that whole he gets pushed off the bird tower building his dad worked in…also his dead dies, uh oh….

Noa wakes up everyone has been taken but him, including his mom….his mom has been taken so now he has to head out….he finds one of the staff the apes had which is this electric shock staff…he takes it although it needs repairing…

He gets on the horse and rides off into the city which we see is now covered in plants/grass….time has definitely flown by…

Anyways Noa falls into a floor trap, where he meets this orangutan named Raka….he mistakes Noa for one of Proximus Caesar’s Apes because he’s carrying one of their spears, he explains he isn’t and that they burned down his village now he’s going after them….

Raka lets Noa go, and then he explains to him about this Ape named Caesar, Noa doesn’t recognize who Caesar is….which is weird, shouldn’t all Apes know who Caesar is? Guess not, anyways he only knows that name because the apes that attacked his home said it for Caesar…. Raka teaches Noa that Proximus Caesar took the name Caesar and his morals and warped it for his own personal games…

He completely mistreats Caesar’s old ways….he tells him that Caesar cared for humans and Apes both together and all that…..anyways Noa needs to continue on his quest so Raka joins him…he gets on his horse he has, and they head out…..at night they camp out with a campfire….

Then that human lady that appeared earlier appears here, Noa seems weary of her but Raka tosses her some fruit then he has Noa give her the cloak he’s carrying….

Anyways Raka says we’ll name her Nova, we always call them that….lolo a nice callback to War For The Planet of The Apes, where Caesar and his team had a girl they named Nova on their team…

So the next day they head out, they head their own ways….Raka heads with Nova to the other humans they find in the forest, Noa continues on his journey….Raka hands him Caesar’s necklace and tells him to keep Caesar’s practices alive….

Hmmm let’s see how long that lasts, so then Proximus Caesar’s Apes come to attack the humans so Noa turns around and comes to help them out…..he sees Nova running through tall grass trying to hide so she won’t be caught as well…

He calls her name, she runs up this horse while a big gorilla is running behind her trying to grab her…..the 3 of them head off, and eventually Nova opens up and starts talking, I guess she can talk now….

Heck even Noa is surprised, he tells Raka he heard her call his name…which Raka says u must been mistaken, then Nova turns to them while Raka is holding some wood and she says I have a name…and he drops the wood, hahahaha…she says my name is Mae….

Well shite if she could speak this whole time why didn’t she before? Anyways so eventually they locate a bridge that they try to cross…..but guess who shows up on both sides, Proximus Caesar’s army……some sneak up to them underneath the bridge as well…..so eventually they get the upper hand on the trio….

Nova or Mae almost gets swept away from the current of the river, and Raka helps her up…but in doing so he gets swept away and dies, noooooo I wasn’t expecting him to die nor did I want this….. Anyway The 2 of them get tied up and forced to come with them to Proximus Caesar’s palace, which is a shipwrecked boat on a beach….behind it is a walled off arena that’s protecting them from the ocean water….

Here’s Proximus Caesar’s entrance when they get there…

What a wonderful day!! Anyways Noa reunites with his friends and mother, but they have to bear witness to Proximus Caesar…..he wants the apes to try to tear open that locked vault behind them that holds human weapons he wants to go kill the reaminging humans before they kill them off…

BTW we see Proximus Caesar took the words of Caesar and manipulated them for his own personal ways…..he takes the saying “Apes stronger together ” which is what Caesar used to say which meant exactly as it sounds….together all of us Apes are strong, but Proximus Caesar took that saying and warped it to basically meaning we Apes are in deed strong together, now u Apes so strong go open that Vault for me…because we strong…

Yeah, that’s not what Caesar meant when he said those words, I do like that in this film Caesar has become some Moises like Ape to the apes, but just like every religious figure there’s always gonna be some A hole several hundred years later will take the beliefs and sayings of the religious figure and warp his or hers beliefs and saying for there own personal ways….

Also, I don’t agree with Proximus Caesar’s methods or like him but I do agree with him though….as we’ve kept seeing over and over again in these films, humans are greedy they always try to come out above everything and everyone else as the dominant species…..

So of course the apes struggle to open the vault since it’s a military vault, but he’s gonna force Mae to tell him how to get in….also she’s been put in a room on the ship with an old cooky man named William H. Marcy, who reads books to Proximus Caesar…to help him get smarter….

So William has given up on humanity, he fully believes it is time for the Apes and humanity’s time is long done….he tells Mae it’s nieve for her to cling on to the old ways when it’s gone….ok there’s something off about Mae shouldn’t we agree right now?

BTW it’s true there’s something off about her, at dinner Proximus Caesar reveals to Noa that she used to work for the military, and she knows how to get inside that vault…she knows what’s inside, she tells him it’s not yours to take….it’s ours…

Ok, are we supposed to be liking this Mae character or not? Anyways Caesar tells Noa he wants him to join him. Yeah yeah, we’ve heard that all before….

So later that night Noa has Mae tell him the full truth, turns out Mae was sent on a mission to get into that Vault to retrieve an important book (uh huh sure) also she wants to prevent Proximus Caesar from entering that vault….including any other apes….

So the 2 of them team up with Noa’s friends to place bombs around the damn….the plan is for her to show them the secret entrance, sneak in open the vault from the inside then detonate the damn which will cause a flood to fill up the vault making it no one can have what’s inside….ahhh good plan….

While they are placing the bombs unfortunately Mr. William comes out and sees what they are doing…..Mae asks him to join them, and he says u don’t get it our time is up…u will never understand, then he tries to go tell Proximus Caesar…but instead, Mae strangles William to death then dumps his body over the damn into the ocean…..

Ok, she’s clearly killed before……so anyway they sneak behind the mountain cliff to sneak inside the vault via the secret way inside….so they climb up the mountain, to sneak in through the secret door……they enter and turn the lights on….Mae tells them to wait there she will be back she’s just gonna go get the book she needs…..uh huh, guys run…she’s not trustworthy…

Anyways she goes into a room sees a locker with guns, takes a handgun, and guess what? She’s not there for a book…no she’s there for a hard drive….which she grabs…..ohhhh something is off here….

Anyways Noa and his friends look through a kid’s book and it shows them animals in zoos….including apes, they are horrified by this….understandably so….

So anyways Nova or Mae shows up and they go downstairs to open the vault up, but on the other side is Proximus Caesar and his army, he grabs Noa’s friends and demands Mae to tell him what is in here that she wanted so badly?

Then he threatens to kill Noa’s friends if him or Mae doesn’t answer…..then Mae runs out the vault and says this isn’t yours to have, then she detonates the damn which causes a flood to flow inside the vault….so now all the apes have to head upwards….

Anyways the apes make it to the top of the mountain, where Proximus Caesar shows up fights Noa…beats up Noa to a pulp….Noa is on the floor bleeding, Caesar says u will get up and kneel for ur king…then u will die….

He gets up starts whistling, so then does the rest of the apes….Proximus Caesar looking at them confused and all that, just then hawks come down swarming Proximus Caesar injuring him, they start attacking him all around him….then the hawks knock him off the cliff into the ocean to his death…yayy finally…

So they all head back home, the film ends with the gang rebuilding their homes, but then Noa sees Mae in the distance…he goes to see what she wants, and he asks can humans and Apes live together in piece? And we see behind Mae’s back she’s holding a gun ready to shoot Noa….the hell is wrong with her..

She says idk, then Noa hands her Caesar’s necklace….really? I thought he was gonna carry on that legacy of Caesar, guess not…. Anyway, she then leaves…..then we see Mae head to this bunker where she hands the hard drive to this person in a hazmat suit who answers the door….

The person walks into the control room, and hands the men the drive…..then we see Noa and his friend go look at the telescope that can view the stars…that he found in a building earlier….

His friend looks up at the stars, as we see at the bunker the satellites change positions….we see maw standing outside looking up at the sky, then we hear the people in the control room calling out for someone out there…..they get a response from space, everyone cheers….

Ok I have a theory or 2, remember in Rise of the Planet of The Apes how there was a mention of astronauts lost in space? What if these are the same astronauts? What if they just got found? What if this eventually leads into the original Planet of The Apes that had a similar premise of a lost astronaut coming down on earth? Who knows…

Anyways the end, so clearly Mae was hiding things….I hope y’all enjoyed the review…
