Doctor Who Christmas special The Church on Ruby Road

Doctor Who 60th Anniversary The Church on Ruby Road:

Yes this is the Doctor Who Christmas special, after a while of no Doctor Who Christmas specials we finally got one, and is it any good?

So firstly let’s get the rating out of the way first, so firstly I’m happy that they released a Christmas special after a long while, now do I like it? Yes, it’s enjoyable…plus it’s a good episode to watch during Christmas, so uh 9/10…now let’s get into the review shall we?

So in this episode, we meet our new female companion named Ruby Road, whos a teenage girl who was adopted into a family when she was a kid, she’s never known her real family, heck she goes on live TV in hoping they can help find her records and trace her back to whoever her parents are…

While on live these invisible goblins come in and cause some small things to happen such as knocking things over and turning off the channel power….yeah things are about to get weird…

Anyway apparently according to Ruby she always has bad luck, and bad luck seems to follow her everywhere she goes…she’s a bad luck magnet for some reason…don’t worry that’s important for later…also the news lady tells her she can try to locate her parents for her…which Ruby says yes she’d love that…

For now, she goes to a nightclub with her friends, one of them so happens to be a transgender woman…I need to bring this up for a reason because there’s a thought that comes to mind that confuses me…so they write this background Transgender character like an authentic normal person, yet for the first 60th anniversary special they couldn’t even write Rose Noble a transgender character authentic and normal? Instead, they wrote her with all the stereotypes when it comes to being transgender.

Anyway, the Doctor is there at the club dancing, with a skirt and he’s rocking that skirt if u ask my opinion…so he bumps into Ruby as soon as she accidentally knocks her glass over and he grabs it before it falls, good reflects….anyways her and her friends head out in a limo, as they ride away a goblin is standing on top of a giant snowman head displayed on a building, it knocks it over trying to squash Ruby and her friends, but the Doctor shows up and prevents it from falling on them, but instead fall on the floor after the limo turns the corner away from the display…

Anyways a police officer comes and tries to take his info down about the situation, the Doctor says well I’m the Doctor and a giant snowman head almost fell on a car…..then he goes back into his tardis and pulls out his sonic screwdriver, which the officer says what’s that? He says that is a Sonic screwdriver…now this is the perfect time for me to bring up an issue I have, like the only issue I have with this special…

It’s that he calls his sonic screwdriver a sonic screwdriver…like ok BS it doesn’t look like a sonic screwdriver anymore, it looks more like the thing at the bottom of the shoes called a soul, he should just call this thing a sonic gadget, it makes more sense…because it doesn’t look like or resemble anything to a screwdriver anymore…

Anyway, the plot officially kicks in when Ruby has to watch over the new baby her adoptive parents have adopted, while they’re out shopping….and the goblins come and snatch the baby away, she notices a ladder in the sky and follows it on the roofs then jumps onto it…..

The Doctor notices her and he starts running across roofs to catch up to her, he asks what are u doing up there? Which is a good question…she tells him they stole her new baby sister, so he jumps on, he introduces himself to her as the Doctor…they get pulled up into a giant pirate ship with wings…yes, I wish that I was kidding, but Russel T Davis said for this upcoming season and the new Doctor he’s gonna go for more of a fantasy angle than sci-fi…which we’ll see how well that’s executed…

Once they get up there the goblins tie them up to a pole, all while getting ready to feast on the baby…they untie themselves and crawl through the vents because apparently, this goblin ship has vents, anyways they locate the goblins putting the baby on a Conveyor belt, that leads up to the goblin king…then I kid u not they start to break out into singing about eating a human baby…..

Yeah that’s a sentence I just said, only Doctor Who could make a song about eating babies, by a group of goblins…and somehow be entertaining at the same time

Yeah that just happened, so the Doctor and Ruby jump down and start singing and ask them to join in the song, to distract them…while they grab the baby and they run the opposite way back down the ship to Ruby’s apartment…. yay they saved the baby, but that seemed a bit too easy if u ask me….so is it done? Uh nope it’s not

So as the family comes back in to drop off the groceries they brought, both the Doctor and Ruby are watching over the baby in the other room, the mother comes in the room, wondering who this strange man is…yeah he’s definitely strange and she doesn’t change her opinion on him….because he starts talking Gibberish about like goblins and a pirate ship…..but then the rumbling stop happening…yay

But Ruby is nowhere to be seen uhh oh…the Doctor asks around the house if they have seen Ruby and the mother says Ruby? Who’s Ruby? U have got the wrong house….uhhhhh oh this isn’t good…this is not good at all….so what exactly happened? Well, the goblins went back in time to when Ruby was a baby, before she was found by her adoptive mother…. oh that explains a lot, also the goblins can time travel I guess…

So he head back in time to the Church on Ruby Road…..where the baby was left off.. hmmm little bit on the nose, isn’t it? Also, it’s snowing, so something telling me it’s Christmas….anyways he sees the goblin ship above him and the ladder so he sneaks on board, grabs baby Ruby and this time destroys the ship by destroying the engines…letting the ship crash, but before it crashes the ship teleports away somewhere else.

So the Doctor saves Ruby, he places her on her adoptive mother’s door steps and he leaves back to the modern day…where Ruby is back yay, she asks the Doctor what the heck happened? 1 moment I was gone it was like a dream…

But the Doctor is just happy that Ruby is alive and back….plus she’s well, so what happens next? Well, the Doctor enters his tardis that was just standing outside Ruby’s house…did I forget to mention that his tardis was resting in front of their house, and Ruby plus her family mistaken it as a police box? Oh right yeah, that happened….do Ruby wonder where the Doctor went? And she goes outside to join him…guess she’s just nuts…

She doesn’t notice the tardis at first but this next-door old lady points towards it so now she notices it and enters the tardis…the old lady says have a fun trip (or something like that) also who’s this old lady? Why does she seem to know about the Tardis? Anyways she enters the tardis, sees the inside, and says who are u? And he says I’m the Doctor…

Then the episode ends with a trailer for next season..so here it is

Yep Doctor Who will return in spring, which has now been confirmed for May, which is a ways away if u ask me…also Idk how do I feel about the next season being labeled as season 1…how do you all feel? Anyway hope y’all enjoy this review
