The Last Voyage of The Demeter: Let’s start off with the trailers shall we?

Since this is a Universal film, Y’all know what that means? Cue the Universal Logo!

Yes if yall are wondering this is like the umpteenth version of an adaptation of Dracula, also yes I know this film is based on one small chapter in Bram Stoker Novel named Dracula….the chapter is titled as the film is titled The Last Voyage of the Demeter…..also if yall are wondering which chapter number this based on? Well it’s chapter 7….yeah idk why they’d start with adapting the 7th chapter in a novel? What if they wanna continue and adapt the entire novel? Does that mean it’s gonna go all the way back to the beginning to chapter 1? Then just why? That’s totally gonna be all flimsy and out of order….

Also one more thing, if yall are bored of the whole vampire Dracula thing. Then this film won’t be for u then, I mean we already know everything about Dracula at this point….he drinks blood, he can fly, he burns in daylight, he can infect people yada yada….this film is nothing new, it doesn’t break new grounds it’s just treading on familiar grounds instead….I mean come on guys we’ve had

The list keeps going on and on for vampire and Dracula movies…..so I could understand this particular genre getting dull….kinda like zombies eh eh…..sighhh, so without further a due let’s get into the review shall we?

So we start off with this film by showing a group of constables going to a wrecked ship on the edge of a beach, during the night while it’s pouring rain….so they get to the ship where they find one of the constables sitting on a rock holding a book. They ask him what’s wrong? He says I went on board to see if anyone is alive……the lieutenant guy asks are there any? Which the guy says no…..then he asks the guy what’s that book which he takes and read it….he reads some passage words such as “captains log of the Demeter” and “if ur reading this God has left us” those stuck out the most then we see close up of the ship in bright lightning rapid sections, showing the front of the ship, blood stain on the sales and the hole in the ship….

We then cut back to 4 week before, yes that beginning scene was after the event happens type beginning…..so anyways our captain named Elliot played by Liam Cunningham….yes Sir Davros from Game of Thrones, that guy….so he ans his right hand man named Wojchek played by David Dastmalchian, yes he’s been in a lot recently…such as Oppenheimer and The Suicide Squad …..so anyways they need to recruit 3 people, and one guy named Clemens played by Corey Hawkins, he is a black guy who’s a doctor and he wants to join the team so he can travel to England….for some reason, but they refuse to being him on, as they say we need people who will help not dead weight….ouch, I detect some racism hmmmmm….well it makes sense because this film takes place in the 1800s, yeah racism back then was way worse then it is these days….

Anyways so uh the crew lift up the crates one of them notice one of the crates has a dragon symbol on it…keep that in mind for later, so he drops it and it almost falls on the captain’s son…so the Dr dude runs in the way and saves the kid….which makes the captain rethink his opinion on him along with his right hand man who ends up inviting him to join the crew….how nice, anyways the guy who dropped the crate says u told us u were caring cargo…not anything involving the dragon symbol….

Anyways the ship departures, they head out to sea and everything is going smooth sailing…..but not for that long unfortunately, because 1 night the crew find a woman stored in a crate, yeah the crate falls over…there’s dirt in it and out comes a woman…..well this is very suspicious, anyways she is pale and needs blood transfusion otherwise she won’t make it….she also unconscious so the Dr. guy takes care of her…against the men’s belief that he should because u know, they believe ohhh woman on board a ship thats a bad sign…..sexism pfft…

Oh things get far worse because the same night Dracula escapes his chest and sneaks around he ends up killing all the love stock on board including the dog….yeah he mutilated the dog, hey if any yall are dog lovers u might wanna look away from this film…..anyways so with the animals dead, a woman who needs blood transfusion….what else can go wrong? Well the men how have to eat salads instead of meat because they’re afraid this is an epidemic….something that can infect them, wow they’re clearly uneducated…..well to be fair how exactly could they know about anything supernatural? They wouldn’t….

Anyways things get worse when the woman wakes up and seems all frightened, talking about a demon from her village being on board the vessel…..yeah this seems very suspicious, also one of their crew mates goes missing so uh oh…..btw he goes missing at night when it’s raining heavily, well things aren’t looking well no sir not at all…..also the Doctor notices 2 bite marks on the woman’s neck, he doesn’t know what it is…also he he’s her with blood transfusion from his own blood, yayy he is a doctor, anyways so the woman ends up telling him about this creature the people in her village call Dracula, he’s on the boat because he needs to make his way to England…if yall wondering why? Its because apparently get this everyone in her village has been killed off by him, uh huh sure because that’s how that works…..yeah ok whatever sure

Oh anyways one night one of the crew gets bitten on the neck by this figure who flies down to him, dun dun dunn, so they take him to the bedroom to take care of him…..well I wouldn’t do that, because that night he wakes up and unfortunately for our kid he locates him then he chases down the captains kid to the captains corridors….where he locks himself inside it, dun dun dunn all while this zombiefied guy is trying to break into the door….

So the crew hears the boys screaming they go down there they pull away the zombiefied crew man and then they try to open the door but it’d locked inside and the kid can’t get to the door because guess what? He sees Count Dracula in the room…..dunn dunn dunn yes this is the first time we get to see what Dracula looks like….and what he looks like is a humanoid naked hairless man bat with pointy ears, grey skin, long wings extending out of under his arms…oh and yellow eyes, sharp teeth…..so then Dracula bites down on the kids neck…..ummm yes that’s a shocker since usually kids in horror movies don’t uhh die, and yes unfortunately the kid dies so uhhh there’s that…

Next day they have his body on the plank with a cloth on him They are going to push his corpse into the ocean for burial at sea….dang this is sad, and they tie up the zombified crew mate to the pole, don’t worry things are about to get worse for u see the captain notices his son is moving so he believes his son is alive so he takes the cloth off him and now his zombified son starts burning and he grabs his dad which starts burning him….then the son starts coming out then starts burning the zombified crew mate alive while he’s screaming it burns!!….we then see the guy burn to a crisp all the way down to his bones, Jesus then they toss the burning boy into the ocean wete he drowns and dies

Well rhat was sad…….moving on lolo so now the rest of the crew left have to figure out what they’re gonna do, so the Doctor guy and the female guest come up with the idea there gonna have to sink the ship along with Dracula on board….it does take some convincing to the right-hand man guy because this boat is soon supposed to be his, the captain was supposed to be retiring and give the ship to his right-hand man….so he says no it’s my ship, so I’ll be the one to destroy it……damn he’s on board with it…(pun unintended)

Then the Doctor guy goes tells the captain about they’re plan, uhh he doesn’t take it well…he pulls a gun out and tries to shoot the Doctor….Jesus, but then the woman comes in and convinces the captain…so now he’s on board with this plan (again pun unintended)

Anyway so they get ready for their final stance against Dracula, the right-hand man and the last remaining crewman get to the high ground while the doctor is steering the ship, anyways fog starts coming in which makes it hard for them to see….well no shite I’d thought it be a whole lot more easier to see lolo So then Dracula swoops in kills both them…also the captain ties himself to the pillar to defend his boat but the creature attacks him…..so the Doctor unties him and the captain dies in his arms, well that’s depressing…..now all who’s left is Clemens and Anna….

So they stand they’re ground against the count, Anna finally stands up against Dracula after all this time since he was in her head….he terrorized her city but not anymore she’s getting vengeance……hurray, so they both end up pushing him into a pillar and push a heavy crate in front of him holding him in place while allowing the ship to crash, from the waves….but we all know it doesn’t crash in the waves, it finds its way onto land…..anyways both Clemens and Anna make it off the boat and are adrift together on a giant piece of wood, hurray they made it…..wellllll

So as the sun starts coming up Clemens wakes up to hearing Anna saying his name and he notices her eyes are pale and so is her skin, yeah she’s about to turn into one of those slaves of Dracula….the blood transfusion did nothing, all it did was delay the inevitable……ugh this is a sad ending, he thanks her for defending him and saving him and he starts crying she does as well and says u saved my life as well……awww too sweet……anyways she separates a piece of the board there floating on and floats towards the sun where she starts burning in the sun, and that’s it for her….

But then we get a final narration by Clemens he’s made it to England and he knows Dracula has survived, so he’s not gonna rest until he finds him and then kills the beast…..as he’s saying that he’s In a bar doodling in a notebook….then across the table behind him he sees Dracula wearing a black robe and a tophat….

Ohhhhhh he did make it…..so then Clemens sees Dracula just vanish then he runs outside where he sees Dracula walking into the distance into a foggy alleyway…..and Clemens narrates saying and I won’t stop at anything until I defeat Dracula…..thats where the film ends

I’m gonna be blunt, I really loved this film….I’m fact it’s thanks to this film it has made me like vampires again, what ruined vampires for me was twilight….that series killed vampires for me for uhhh years and years almost a decade….but this movie gave me an appreciation for vampires once again, specifically Dracula…

So I’ll give this film a solid 9/10 I highly recommend it
