Ok this one is gonna need some explaining…..this is a DC property…..kinda……its technically a vertigo comic that’s owned by DC…..yeah I didn’t know that until I did some research…….oh get this Robert Downy JR and his wife made this show……so this is a show that’s based on a vertigo comic…….so yes apparently DC does and finds produce other things that’s well not super hero related……yeah I’m shocked as well……here’s the trailers to this show…..
Yeah I never heard of this comic before…..heck i didn’t even know of this show….until Netflix recommended this trailer trailer me back at the end of April…….I mean idk why they recommended me this….but I’m not complaining….because I actually watched this 8 episode only season…and may I just say this…..its freaking awesome…….let me explain…..so to give a quick summary on this show…..it revolves around the fact that the government made this human deer hybrid in a laboratory…who will become known as Gus….later on in this show……but anyways due to them doing this, a virus spread lose on the world….which ended up wiping out majority of the human population…..but also transforming other babies into human animal hybrids…..so now society doesn’t know if the virus was caused by the human hybrids or if the hybrids were a creation from the virus……so now in a post apocalyptic world, our main character Gus and his father live in the woods…he is trying to protect him from humans who wanna hunt down and kill any human animal hybrids…….heck we do get a scene where a group of men enter there cabin and try killing Gus with a crossbow and a bear trap…..yeah this show does get a bit dark….best way to put it….the show isn’t meant for young kids….since also Gus does cus quit a bit in this show…..its meant more for young teens……..anyways noes it’s time to talk about the main characters and the main villian of this series…….
Gus: so I’ve basically already described his character…..he’s the main character, who’s kinda clueless to alot of things…..also he’s on a mission to find who he thinks is his mother….and to find other human animal hybrids so he can live with…..he goes on an adventure with this guy named Tommy….when he well gets saved by Tommy…..I’ll talk about his character next….
Tommy: he is this mysterious black dude who saves Gus from a group of hunters trying to kill Gus…….he which then joins Gus on his mission…..he does in a way become like the new father figure to Gus……we kinda get that father and son bond between them in this show…..its really sweet….its like kinda the father bond u see in the last of us….or the Mandalorian…….anyways we do find out a bit about his character a few episodes into this show…..his character does basically boil down to being the father figure to Gus……also he gives Gus his name in the first place……
Bear: I know nothing about the comics but from what I’ve heard this girl isn’t even in the comics…..this Character is a TV show original character……and i don’t mind that…..she’s actually an interesting character….she basically is a leader of a group of people who warship human animal hybrids……they also dress in animal human clothing to disguise themselves……they also live in an abandoned amusement park….and enjoy themselves……she joins Gus and Tommy on there mission just because….that and her team turns on her and tried to kill her and Gus…..why u may ask?…..well idk why…..I couldn’t explain it…..I vaguely understand why they tried to kill him…..so she just tags along…….look I know I’m not describing alot about these characters….thats because there’s not much to them…..nor this show…..since it’s only 8 episodes…..now let’s get onto the villain
General Abbot: ok I should start off with saying we don’t don’t get to see the main villian till the end of episode 3……thats his first appearance….the end of episode 3……if yall are wondering who General Abbot is…..well he’s a general/leader of a group of people who believe that human animal hybrids have a use for humanity….as in, they might have the answer somewhere in there DNA to find a cure for humanity…..so this group will do anything to reach there goal….even if it means kidnap and torture the hybrids to find a cure…..now let’s describe what he looks like……his a menacing person who’s bold, has a puffy grey beard, wears red lense glasses, has kinda a rough voice, wears a trench coat with black boots……well actually he has 3 outfits….his first outfit we see him in is a typical general outfit….as in a brown jacket with tan pants and black boots…..his second outfit is a camouflage colored trench coat….his third outfit is a grey trench coat…..oh wait he has 4 outfits…..his fourth outfit is a dark green trench coat looking military type outfit…with a dark green generals hat on his head…….I should also mention this guy is just evil……he will do anything…..heck he kills one of his retired people who use to work for him…..just because she didn’t have the book with her that he’s looking for…..also no he doesn’t die…..this show keeps him alive….for season 2…..which I think is smart….because I was afraid this show was gonna kill him off in the first season…..if yall are wondering how this season ends….well he has set camp at a zoo where now him and his group are gonna be doing tests on the hybrids they captured not to long ago……oh and Gus gets captured….to get tested on….so yeah the show ends wirh our hero being captured….and he gets united with other hybrids while in custody….oh and the show ends with a woman who was in charge of the zoo…telling Tommy and bear over communication…..that they’re all gonna go and break into General Abbot camp site……
Bonus: General Abbott — From Scrawny Tyrant to Looming Menace
One of the rare changes from the Sweet Tooth comics to the Netflix show that actually improved the source material is the portrayal of General Abbott (Neil Sandilands). In the comics, Abbott often comes across as scrawny and bureaucratic — menacing in position, but not exactly physically imposing. The show completely flips that.
With a heavy hunter-style trench coat (lined in red for extra flair), a grizzled beard, and a cold, looming presence, Abbott becomes a warlord in every sense. He no longer barks orders safely from behind a desk — he looms, he prowls, and when he enters a scene, the tone immediately shifts.
The beard is a small but brilliant touch. It adds an air of wildness and survivalist grit that’s missing in the comics. He’s not just some authoritarian figure anymore — he’s a wolf in command, unpredictable and unnerving. His physical presence alone makes him one of the most intimidating villains in recent Netflix adaptations.
Also heres the piece of soundtrack that plays every time the villian is on screen skip to 0:40 to 1:20 to hear that specific piece
So yeah thats how the show ends….honestly I’m hoping they make a season 2…..Robert Downy JR and his wife and Warner Brothers did a great job with this show……but I think it depends on how many views this season gets…..so I do highly recommend this show….its worth a watch……..I’m gonna give this show a solid 10/10
