Star Trek The Original Series

Star Trek the original series: So where do I start with this well let’s start off with showing yall the opening theme song of this series

Secondly I wanna mention that I grew up watching this show, in fact it’s one of my favorite shows when I was growing up as a kid, heck I still love this show to this day…..so let’s get on with this review shall we?

So in this show we have our main characters

Captain Kirk (played by Willaim Shatner)

Spock (Played by the late Leonard Nimoy) (what I love about Spock is his character doesn’t understand sarcasm, jokes, metaphors…..they just kinda go over his head, he is the type of guy who only looks at things logically and logically alone that’s it….he acts like he also doesn’t have any emotions but there’s been a small handful of times he has shown emotions, Prob has to do with the fact he is part human…..yeah his mom was human, so he feels at conflict with that part of himself) (also forgot to mention but Spokes species is a Vulcan)

Nyota Uhura

Sulu

Chekov

Leonard McCoy (what I personally love about his character is he’s always snarky and makes insultes….I do like those kinda characters)

Christine Chapel

Scotty

So basically this show is about our main characters in the USS Enterprise, explore different planets and civilizations…..in each episode its a different race of species they encounter…….btw our main characters unlike in star wars who always like shooting, the people in Star Trek try negotiating and finding reason rather then shooting……they only use a gun if it comes down to it……which means if an enemy is attacking them or an enemy doesn’t do any reasoning……btw before I get to explaining specifically 3 or 2 episodes I wanna quickly mention my favorite saying in this show is from Spoke, live long and prosper….so now let’s get into talking about few episodes

So in this specific, this is a 2 part episode btw where Spock fakes a communication call from his old captain Christopher Pike yes that captain so they go visit him…..also yes he is all burnt up and In a wheelchair, btw he can’t talk….there’s a panel on the outside of this wheelchair thing if u can call it a wheelchair if it beeps once it means no but if beeps 2wice then it means yes…..so anyways so the crew quickly finds out someone faked the message sent to them by Pike so they investigate who it is….take a guess who it was? It was Spock, so now Spock has to be put on trial on board the enterprise……so they bring on board the former Captain Pike and his helper named Mendez……and if ur wondering what these 2 episodes end up being about? Well let me explain it, so Spock shows footage of when he worked under Captain Pike, and there was this one time they teleport down to this planet called Talos IV…..what they find down there are survivors in tents……including a hot woman, keep that in mind because Pike falls in love with her…..so as soon as they try to help give the survivors supplies also while the female leads Pike up a mountain then things become to make sense….

The survivors vanish, they were never there it was all an allusion…. then a group of aliens with big heads come outside and knock out Pike then kidnap him……which ends part 1 because they cut it off here….because we need a cliffhanger, the way this episode ends is with the crew finding out all this footage is somehow coming live from Talos IV……and that is a felony apparently……which leads into this conversation which I like

Mendez: Mr. Spock, ur aware of the orders regarding any contact with Talos IV….u have deliberately invited the death penalty….u not only finished yourself Spoke, but u finished ur captain as well

Spock: Commodore must be aware that Captain Kirk knew nothing about this

Mendez: and u are aware the captain is responsible for everything that happens on his ship, I order u to return this vessel to manual control

Dunnn dunnn dunnnnn

Spock: sir, I respectfully decline

Mendez: very well, you’ve earned the consequences….this court is in recess

Dunn Dunn dunnnnn

So uh yeah Spoke is basically playing loose with the rules huh…..so this leads into part 2 where he continues showing more footage of what’s going on……where now we get to see what Hell captain Pike went through when captured If ur wondering what he goes through? Well the aliens create Illusions around his cell so it makes it look like he’s in other places, the Illusions were a mix of him getting attacked by enemies or him relaxing with the lady he met…..this is all for the aliens to test, and learn about the humans, think of this like some kinda twisted kinda zoo…..so anyways Pikes crew comes down to save him, which they do……also he tries bringing the woman with him, but the aliens and her tell him that is impossible because she’s very very old and if she gets off the planet she’ll age back to her old self rapidly….turns out she got badly injured in a wreck and the aliens tried putting her back together the best they could but they’ve never seen a human before…so they did the best they could…….so the group decides to leave and go back onto the USS Enterprise and that’s where the video footage ends

So Kirk gets up to go talk to the Commodore but he vanishes uhhh ohhh…..what a twist, so then the aliens appear on the screen and reveals that the Commodore was never aboard the ship it was an illusion, ohhhh clever very clever, so anyways the aliens give Pike the option to come to live the rest of his days down there on Talos IV where he will be able to have his body back the choice is Kirk’s they say and hang-up……now is it making sense why Spock did all this? He wanted to help out an old friend of his….that’s sweet, so Kirk comes to that same realization as well, then he asks Pike if he wants to go live the rest of his remaining life down there? Which Pike replies with a yes, button…..so he asks Spock to take Mr. Pike down to the Teleportation room, which Spoke does……then the screen turns on and the aliens show Captain Kirk how Pike is doing down there, seems he is happy…..he is out of his wheelchair, no longer burnt and can talk presumably but most of all he has his girlfriend…..keep in mind this is all an allusion so it’s kinda like a simulation for him but still….and this brings captain Pikes story to an end….honestly that was very touching….I recommend u should check out my review on Star Trek Strange New Worlds to get more of Captain Pike’s story

So let’s continue so in another episode that’s named Space Seed, Kirk, and his crew come stumbling upon a floating ship in space with no pilot or anyone, so they go aboard it…..and what they find is kinda weird, capsules holding humans inside frozen and still alive but in deep sleep…..ohhhhh so anyways they open one capsule up and bring the guy onto the starship Enterprise where they ask him questions….first what is his name, turns out his name is Khan as he tells them….no that aint his full name but he aint gonna reveal that no instead the crew finds that out for themselves……and he’s Centuries years old…….wow, also turns out he and his crew use to be proud warriors, plus there strong….that’s all he basically eludes to but we find out a tad bit more later don’t worry…..also throughout this episode Khan falls in love with one of the woman’s on board the Enterprise…..and she falls in love with him because I guess she finds him charming…..ehhh idk

Anyways so our main characters do find out a bit about Khan, turns out his name is Khan Noonien Singh, and he in the days was a tyrant of sorts….he and his men would go around taking over planets, jeepers our crew might be in danger but they don’t know it yet….because then Kirk goes to tell Khan they know everything about him and they’re gonna lock him up in his room but as soon as Kirk leaves, Khan escapes by knocking out his guard……then Khan goes onto his ship with the help of MacGyver….the woman he falls in love with, so on his ship, he reawakens his men…..then they come on board the USS Enterprise to take over it, they cut off all life support supplies in the main deck also they take over the main controls as well so now they’re running things here….so they capture the crew and try to reason with them to make them join there team, to take over the universe….

If ur wondering how Khan Noonien-Singh thinks he can convince them well he put Kirk in a pod of sorts where they can raise or lower the oxygen level to kill him off but if they join him he will let Kirk live……but what ends up happening is MacGyver secretly saves Kirk….while Spock is being sent down there next, luckily for Spock well Kirk knocks out the guard escorting Spock to there…..then they decided to gas the room Khan is in which includes Kirk’s men unfortunately but hey still…..it works but Khan escapes out of the room and makes it to the control room where he overhears Kirk talking to Spock on the communication call about how they will meet in the control room…so Khan hides on the side of the door and Kirk comes in so then Khan gets the upper hand and takes the gun out of Kirk’s hand, here’s where we get to see how strong Khan is, he bends Kirk’s gun as if it’s Play dough, then Khan reveals he set the ship to explode within minutes so then Kirk tries shutting it off but they both end up fighting each other….

Anyway fight ends with Kirk knocking Khan out then shutting off the detonation…..so afterwards they hold a hearing for Khan and his men and MacGyver, where Kirk decides to drop the charges……heh? Yeah get this instead of having them go face against star fleet command….they instead banish Khan and his men to a sand planet….they offer MacGyver the chance to either go with him or go deal with star fleet command….she says she will go with Khan so that’s that they are now banished onto a planet btw this isn’t the last time we see them oh don’t worry that’s soon to come heheheheh

Overall I do love this series in fact I re watched it during the Pandemic, I’ll say this my only issue with this series 2 things didn’t age well… firstly the stunt doubles are abysmal u can tell easily when a character is replaced with a stunt double because they look nothing not the main actor like at all….like take the Khan vs Kirk scene when they change Kirk to his stunt double u can tell its the stunt double because where Kirk has the kinda flat combed hair….his stunt double has pointy hair that’s brushed forward….wow yall didn’t wanna try to hide that like at all? Then the second thing that didn’t age well is the way woman are represented in this show…..I mean u know woman represented in the 70s u know how that was…..it wasn’t great in fact it was pretty dang awful, but hey what ur gonna do right? Not like we can time travel to the past and stop sexism and racism…..so overall I’ll give this show a solid 8.5/10 go watch it, it’s on Paramount plus
