The New Mutants: yes folks where on the most controversial xmen film….reason it was controversial is because this film was delayed 5 times….yeah thats right…..5 times…..here’s the first trailer that came out in the end of 2017

As u can tell by this trailer it was ment to be a horror film….thats what the director wanted to do but the company wanted him to tone down it a bit to make it PG-13….anyways the company hired another person to come and rewrite the script but once this trailer came out and got so much love from fans …Fox decided to let the director quote on quote stay with his vision….I say quote on quote because its clear some stuff has been rewritten…because loon at this final trailer

As u can tell now it looks more like an action film…..after watching this I can safely say it had 3 tones….it felt like a mix of the breakfast club with horror elements with of course action superhero antics….yeah this doesn’t flow well together….u need to stick with one tone and leave it with that….so remember how I said this film was delayed 5 times well….it was originally set to come out early 2018…then got pushed back to late 2018…..because reshoots…then got pushed to early 2019….got pushed back again till late 2019…..then got pushed again till early 2020…then the Pandemic came and lets not talk about that travesty….so it got put on thr shelves….then Disney (yes Disney got the rights to the xmen universe)….decided to frick this and put this film in theater’s….yes this film released in theaters in September of last year…finally after 3 and half years…….of people complaining and saying this is no longer new mutants…its now old mutants…..and people thinking it was never gonna release…..it finally released…and I bought it on DVD recently and watched it…I can safely say….its pretty good…..I mean don’t get me wrong its not the best but it aint the worst….heck it never bores me but its a slow film….here let me be more specific…so let’s get into this quote on quote plot ..u will see why I say that….also id like to mention a few more things……see that scene in the first trailer where that girl wakes up in that room with many faces coming out of the wall….and also it was promoted on the first movie banner……yeah that scene didn’t even show up in this film…….I mean why?…..seriously if ur gonna show it in the trailer and show it on the front of ur movie banner…then u should show that scene in the film….but ah well its not like I’m gonna fuss over that ….its not a big deal…..this film doesn’t have enough horror elements to be scary….it like tame horror…..like also see that scene of that guy going up to the drier and he sees a burning hand…well that doesn’t appear in the film either….in the film he goes up to it and he gets pushed back and we cut to him in a mining field in a cave …having a vision of an accident of him using his powers which brings down the cave and kills his dad and everyone…..yeah so the burning hand doesn’t appear…again this is like tame horror……as stated this film has 3 different tones to it…..the film feels like if……IT 2017 combined with the breakfast club and with a superhero action PG-13 film…..so anyways the plot is……this girl named Danielle, wakes up in a institution….after her town got attacked by something….no seriously we don’t see what attacked her city like at all…..but we get a hint later what did attack her city and killed her father…….so anyways there she meets a girl named Illyana Rasputin (played by Anna Taylor-Joy)..her nickname is Magik. …how to describe her character…..she hates on Danielle  ..for no reason…she insults her and all of that….also she acts like the tough girl…..we kinda find out why later but its hard to like a character who’s being a douchebag to one of the main characters…her powers is she can telport and turn her arm in to metallic armor ans she can spawn a plasma sword….its pretty cool….oh and throughout this film she has a pet puppet dragon….I kid u not……also Danielle meets the rest of the kids…..a girl named Rahne Sinclair (played by Maisie Williams) (yes thats right…..we now have another Game of Thrones actor in the x-men universe…..we first had Peter Dinklage, then Sophie Turner,  and now Maisie Williams……cool)…..her nickname is WolfsBane….her powers is she can shape shift into a wolf…also she’s a catholic….but has been called a witch from a priest….who she killed because he tried killing her…..also the other characters…..Sam Guthrie (played by Stranger Thing’s actor Charlie Heaton)…his nickname is Cannonball….his powers is he can propel himself through the air at great speed using natural Thermo-Chemical energy……she also meets the last mutant guy named Henry Zaga (played by Roberto Da Costa)….his nickname is Sunspot…..his powers is he can light himself on fire…..like human torch……also no this ain’t his first appearance…he appears in x-men Days of future past….but this film ignores that…so well ignore that as well…..this film is 1 hour and 40 min…..so its short…..and majority of it including the first act of the film is just our main characters…sitting and talking,  walking and talking….hanging out and talking…..fighting…like arguing…..more talking….and more talking…..it just goes on and on….like i said this is a slow film….but here’s the thing I’ve never got bored at any moment in this film…and I usually do for these type of films……so anyways this institute is runned by one woman named Ms Reyes (played by Alice Braga)…..she’s not a good guy….she says she wants to help them so they can live amongst humans ..but she secretly repairing them to be solders of her boss she works for…no we never know or hear of her boss in this film…..he was supposedly going to be a guy named Mr Sinister……but that was scraped…..because once Disney got there hands on Fox…they knew this be the end of the x-men universe thats already been going on screen for years……and they had to scrap a sequel to this film…so we never know who the boss is…..anyways in this film Danielle has no idea what her powers are…turns out it is she can manifest people’s greatest fears….although I don’t know how know on there found that out because in the middle of this film when we see her either asleep or not nearby the other characters….is when there worst fears come to life……so its a subtle as a slap on the face…..also to summarize up why each these teens are here…..there all mutants….and well to be precise…WolfsBane killed a priest who marked her and called her a witch and physically abused her……Sunspot well actually burnt his girlfriend alive……Cannonball killed his father in a mining incident gone wrong…..Magik was abused by men that her father let into there house to do ….things to her…..lets leave it at that just things…..she remembers them having horrifying grins on them so she now imagines them as demon looking creatures sith no eyes and long mouth with sharp teeths…and wearing smily face mask…..and I stated in the middle of this film…Danielle (unknowingly brings there fears to life)…..BTW her fear is a entity called demon bear……its a metaphor for all the bad stuff bunched into one…and yes she can and does have it physically appear as a demon bear….she says earlier in the film her father told her of 2 different bears…one of which is good and the other that is filled with ur darkest memories and fears……some great foreshadowing there….because in the third act…..Ms Reyes tries putting down Danielle…because her boss tells her to over email…..WolfsBane saves her….BTW forget to mention WolfsBane and Danielle do become a couple in this film…..….I give props to Fox…..I always like diversity….so good job…..but she does end up unconscious……and her new friends try waking her up while there being chased by the demon bear ….BTW the demon bear ate Ms Reyes……woo-hoo…..so now the film starts feeling like an action film…also now for some reason Magik cares enough for Danielle…..to try to save her…..so they all fight against the bear…but only Danielle can stop the demon bear….so they try waking her up….she does wake up….yes she stops the bear….by calming it down and petting it….…..charming…….anyways the end…..there life’s are saved and they just leave the institution…thats it…they just leave…..and now this brings us to the end of the xmen saga……so anyways my opinion is….I do recommend this film….its an interesting film….I especially recommend it to the new mutants comic book fans…and to the people who been waiting to see this movie for 3 and a half year…..but id also recommend this movie to people who like slow storytelling type film….but if u can’t stand slow storytelling with little action…then this film ain’t gonna be ur cup of tea…for me in mixed on this film…..its not bad…it aint amazing….its decent and passable….and I never once got bored watching this film….maybe had to do with i been waiting for 3 and a half years to see this film…and also maybe because I enjoyed the characters……im gonna give this film a solid 7.5/10
