Ok I should give a fair warning this film isn’t meant kids like at all……this is an R rated film…..so there’s that also this film isn’t that popular amongst the Watchmen fan base…..but for me since I’m not a Watchmen fan I actually love this film it’s a guilty pleasure of mine…..also Zack Snyder directed this film…..oh and here’s the trailer enjoy 

Damn that is one of the best trailers to exist….the music and the editing, whoever put that together…..good job

Yeah this film did divide the fan base……some liked it and some well hated it…..or some felt neutral about it……anyways let’s get into the review….also very fair warning there’s a horrific part of the film that was too much for everyone so yeah thats this kinda film, it’s vulgar and vile….anyways now let’s get into this review 

So firstly this film isn’t linear at all in fact there’s alot of back flash scenes but we open up with some unknown man being tossed out a window from a tall building in slow motion…..and the camera focuses on a smile pin that has blood dripped on it……yeah that’s how this opens up….if any yall are wondering what’s happening? Well all will be revealed ……then we cut to a man named Rorschach who wears a brown fedora, brown trench coat, a white and black mask that’s based off the Rorschach test if yall know what that is….. Also his mask designs change with his expressions, he also wears gloves….anyways he’s narrating talking about how the guy got killed which the guys name was the Comedian and he wants to find out who murdered him…his friend….

Now I quickly wanna mention that this film takes place in an alternate time history period where Nixon is still the president and he never got kicked out of office…..also in this world there’s a law that just came out that if ur a superhero who wears a mask u will be arrested….so superheroes are having to retire but Rorschach won’t…in fact he’s not a traditional superhero at all….he’s an extreme right winger who will murder people and I do mean murder….he murders cops as well he doesn’t care, he sees the entire system as corrupt and broken……so yeah there’s that….plus this film has a guy named Dr Manhatten, a glowing blue guy who has the powers of well god and he’s starting to well feel disconnected from humanity because well of course he is……plus he majority of the time has his giant dong hanging out…..ewww…..plus he starts distancing from his girlfriend Laurie Jupiter, heck he tells her to go hangout with Daniel Dreiberg AKA Night Owl II…….who btw is retired just like she, they’re both retired from being superheroes, while Dr Manhatten is a well known celebrity who does science stuff…..but at the moment he’s getting tired of humanity because there blaming him for causing his ex wife to have a terminal illness…..oh joy……..so while he sends Laurie to go make out with well Daniel Dreiberg…he goes and F***ks off and leaves earth and goes to Mars to build something that he says will help humanity also hes thinking if humanity is worth saving or not……

BTW if ur wondering how Dr Manhatten came to be…..well glad u asked, a doctor guy (I forget his name) was at his work place where he accidentally got left behind in a test chamber of his creation where it shoots out lightning…..and the lightning zapped all his flesh off to his bones…..then he comes back as a glowing blue veins and skeleton….until he turned into well Dr Manhatten…..yeah I didn’t say it made any sense all I said was u wanna know how he got turned into Dr Manhatten…..

So Laurie Jupiter goes and hangouts with Daniel Dreiberg…..who btw is retired and works with books……he’s a book nerd…..btw the actor who plays him plays Ed Warren in the conjuring films so I think this was a good casting pick….and glad to see his career went somewhere after this film…..anyways so they start hooking up together….anyways so throughout this film Rorschach is investigating the Comedians death, and we the audience plus him find out exactly how much of a piece of shite the Comedian is…..and trust me when I say this he’s truly an abysmal human being……fair warning what I’m gonna talk about next is gonna be a hard subject which is hard for alot normal people to handle…..ok so with that out of the way now let’s get into it….

So firstly where do I begin well the Comedian is perfectly played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan, which yall may remember him more by his role in the walking dead as Negan….. so yeah he’s in this film and oh yeah he’s abysmal….for a superhero he’s definitely no hero….btw he doesn’t have any powers, what he does have is guns and very good at using them…..also If ur wondering why and how he’s such a abysmal character…well glad u asked, for u see he rapped the first Silk Specter…..which she does fall in love with him afterwards and also gives birth to Laurie Jupiter…..ewwww….also jeepers yeah glad the man died but don’t worry it gets worse……he abused his powers as well by going around trying to silence protesters by shooting smoke bombs at protesters…..hmmm how charming, also one day st a bar a pregnant woman who I think he also rapped comes in and right in front of everyone including his own friends he shoots the pregnant woman…..yeah let that sink in ur guys head he just killed a woman with her unborn child…….and I bet ur saying do u know what? Death seemed like the reasonable thing to happen too him……yeah there’s no ounce of humanity in this man…….oh btw we find out later why he gets killed we will get to that later…

I do wanna point out this film is extremely bloody….I mean we get a scene where Daniel Dreiberg and Laurie Jupiter are walking in a ally way….then they get cornered by crooks which then they both start to beat the living shite out of them…..which leads to Daniel Dreiberg grabbing one of the guys arms and bending back and we see in gruesome detail the guys bone break through his skin and stick out….ewww………anyways so Rorschach gets framed for a murder, do the cops come and arrest him……..also for the first time we see him without his mask on….because the cops tear his mask off, and let’s talk about it for a second dear lord whoever they got to play Rorschach they did a down right an amazing with the casting….not just in the way he acts like Rorschach but the way he looks like Rorschach underneath the mask In the comics….I mean exactly the same……same facial details, same face shape, same ginger hair….plus the way he sounds in this film is the way many fans imagined Rorschach sounds like when they read his lines in the comics….so congratulations to Zack Snyder…….

Anyways so in this entire prison part of the film….during a interrogation we see from back flashes that his mom was a prostitute who hated him ans wish she had the abortion instead of having him….ouch, he also suffered from bullies, lived around drunks…his mom was a drunk as well, also if ur wondering what made him snap and decided to well start killing people, well it had nothing to do with his messed up childhood……no it instead has to do with a incident that involved a little kid getting killed in front of him, there right their he realized there’s no justice in this society it is all messed up……yeah he’s all sorts of F**ked up In the head…

BTW we get the most memorable line from him in this film….specifically in this scene, so during him getting food at the cafeteria with the other inmates…..one of the inmates tries chatting with him but Rorschach decides to punch the guy….punch his hand through the glass grab the vat of hot old and dump it onto the guys head….jeez…..then while the cops come running up to him to subdue him he says “when are u guys gonna realize!? I’m not locked in here with u! Ur locked in here with me!”…..damn such s great line….anyways so Spectre and Night Owl decide to go save rot but they need to suit up….well idk if they needed to suit up I just think they decided to because they where realizing there lide doesn’t have a purpose anymore unless there doing crime fighting….ok that’s messed up…

So they go break out Rorschach but not before Rorschach is able to kill some prisoners very brutally btw…..very brutal, also I quickly wanna mention that Night Owls outfit in this film had a massive redone, in the comics his outfit is slightly bulky, is all brown and grey, the head piece looks more like a owl….but in this film his outfit looks more like a discounted batman suit…..yeah I wish I was kidding, also in the comics Night Owls mask doesn’t cover up his face….it goes around his head and he has a pair of goggles on but in the film the mask covers up the upper part of the head like batmans cowl……ok weird choice idk how to truly feel about that change…..but at least Silk Specters outfit is the same…a tight Yellow and black spandex, so anyways they break Rorschach….btw Rorschach is obsessed with his mask, he even calls it his face….when he tries to retrieve his mask back from the evidence room, he asks the police man who interrogated him….where is my face!!?….yeah he’s that obsessed 

Also Rorschach beats up and kills a prisoner behind a closed door……all we see is him enter the room and leave the room then we see a pool of blood pouring out from the bottom of the door…. idk if I’d wanna know what he did to that prisoner 

So anyways after that the three of them continue Rorschach investigation because now there partnering up with him….btw if yall couldn’t tell already but Rorschach isn’t a great person at all….on top of him being the type of person who kills people brutally and thinks all woman are whores…..oh yeah I forgot to mention that, he thinks women are whores because he has trauma from when he was a kid. After all, his mom was one……plus also Rorschach is a massive hypocrite, he says he doesn’t like society because there always too violent killing one another….yet he’s doing the same thing….in very brutal fashion, yeah he ain’t the type of guy to ever look up to…..

Anyways they go to a bar to interrogate some people and they do get some info…….which I forget what that info is but it is info that leads them to realize who might have been behind all this….. their superhero buddy Ozy Mandias……now of course Night Owl doesn’t believe that Ozy Mandias killed Comedian……btw if ur wondering wait who’s Ozy Mandias? Well he’s a rich superhero who kinda sees himself above everyone else but he genuinely wants to find a solution to create peace on this planet………btw I do kinda like the commentary between Rorschach and Night Owl as there walking into Ozy Mandias base to question him….

Night Owl: no way Ozy Mandias did this, he can’t even hurt a fly….he’s vegetarian for God’s sake

Rorschach: Hitler was also vegetarian, now let me take the lead ur pathetic we only have one chance at this

Lololo…..also if ur wondering where Spectre is well she goes and informs and tells Dr Manhatten that humans are worth saving……..granted though Dr Manhatten does for some reason decide to show her who he father was which was the Comedian so now she finds her life and existence worthless…..oh joy….anyways Silk Specter gets telported back down to them and the 3 of them confronts Ozy Mandias and guess what? He reveals he did kill the Comedian and here’s why he did it….it’s because the Comedian found out Ozys plan and get this it’s to kills 3 million people in the city with a giant explosion then make it look like it came from Dr Manhatten….framing him, which would cause all sides to unite and try to stop a common enemy……in other words there would be peace and no fighting amongst each other…..wow what a self richest douchebag, willing to kill 3 million people to save billions of people….

If yall haven’t realized yet, this film and comic book series doesn’t paint there heros in a black or white way……these heros have complex depth to them….they are douchebags they do douchebag things but they do them for good morals, which makes the audience think……yeah even the Comedian has morals turns out the reason he was killed is because he couldn’t come to terms with Ozy Mandias plan and get behind it…….wow the man who rapped woman and killed a pregnant woman oh and also abused his powers, thinks killing 3 million people to save billions is just way to inhumane…..well when u put it that way it doesn’t really make any sense I know….so yeah glad to see he had morals even though he’s a shitty person….

Anyway, Dr. Manhatten comes in to try to save the day, but we find out more…….Ozy Mandias already executed his plan hours ago yeah he has wiped out 3 million people and a city…..gasps, yeah there’s no saving the day at the last minute…no Ozy Mandias won, he executed his plan he gets away with it…and if yall wondering wait what u mean gets away with it doesn’t he face justice? Unfortunately no, for u see he also reveals to even Dr. Manhatten that he is the one who framed Dr. Manhatten as giving cancer to people, he also framed Rorschach for the murder…….he then hired an assassin to kill him to throw any suspicion off of him…..he says also tells Dr. Manhatten the plan was to frame Dr. Manhatten as the thing that killed 3 million people to create peace and get this Dr. Manhatten agrees, say what now? Yeah he says he’s right peace is peace……yeah and don’t worry even Night Owl ans Silk Specter come to terms with this even though not liking what Ozy has done but he still created peace…..dammit…..but Rorschach refuses to let Ozy get away with this so he leaves and says the whole world deserves to know….I don’t compromise my morals, not under any circumstances….

So anyways he goes outside to go to there ship to leave but Dr. Manhatten teleports outside and asks where u going….which Rorschach says everyone deserves to know the truth, which Dr. Manhatten says u know I can’t allow u to do that…….huh that’s funny now Dr. Manhatten cares about humans how ironic…..also funny enough I said that because Rorschach says something similar, huh now all a sudden u care about humanity? How convenient……..well yes it very much convenient on his end…….anyways Rorschach takes his mask off and says what’s one more body huh? It won’t make a difference….go ahead do it……….. DO IT!!……then Dr. Manhatten waves his hand and explodes Rorschach into a pile of blood…..

Gasspss, so yes Dr. Manhatten kills Rorschach, aw man he was the only character I cared about……so yeah he had no choice to because Rorschach was gonna go expose to the world what Ozy Mandias did………anyways Night Owl goes back inside and beats up Ozy Mandias, then tells him ur legacy will be ur a failure…….then he and the rest of the team leaves….also the way this film ends is with Rorschach journal being sent into the mail room and the film ends with him looking at the cover of the book, leaving it open to if they will report on what Rorschach wrote, to the world or not…….anyways the end…

Yeah I can see how this film was so diverse when it came out……usually the normal movie audience when they go see a normal superhero film they want what they expect which is good guys having to stop a bad guy….then the heroes win at the end, this film isn’t that at all….the film and comics challenge its audience, by introducing them with complex/messed up morals our heroes do but also show u not everything is black and white……..also there is no heroes winning at the end they lose, so yeah I can see how alot of people where split on this film….but overall I enjoyed this film, I personally own the directors cut which extends this film to 3 hours and 24 min….which yes that is long but this version is the closest to being 100% accurate to the comics……It adds more footage and fixes some unanswered things in the theatrical version which was cut down to 2 hours and 30 min I believe……so yeah I say yall should check this film out even if it’s just for one time, but don’t watch it if u can’t stand gore and strong subjects if u know what I mean……overall I’ll give this film a solid 9/10 it’s a good film
