Mighty Morphin Power Rangers 🦖⚡
There’s a reason I want to talk about this series — I grew up with it. And with the recent passing of Jason David Frank… may he rest in peace… it hit me hard. I’m not gonna lie, I fell into a deep depression for a week. He played my favorite character — the Green Ranger — and it felt like losing a piece of my childhood.
So, I’m making a new category just for these reviews: Power Rangers.
And yes — at the end, you’ll get links to the full episodes, officially posted by the Power Rangers channel on YouTube.

Opening Theme 🎵
The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers opening is legendary. Corny? Oh, absolutely. But it gets you hyped.

And honestly, this series had one of the best soundtracks of its era. Take a listen:

Plot Rundown (Non-Spoilers)
Five teenagers with “attitude” (that’s literally the dialogue) from Angel Grove are chosen by Zordon — a big floating head in a tube — and Alpha 5, his panicky robot assistant, to become the Power Rangers.
Jason – Red Ranger, leader, has the Tyrannosaurus Zord
Zack – Black Ranger, funky and energetic, has the Mastodon Zord
Kimberly – Pink Ranger, gymnast and archer, has the Pterodactyl Zord
Trini – Yellow Ranger, disciplined and calm, has the Sabertooth Tiger Zord
Billy – Blue Ranger, tech genius, has the Triceratops Zord
These Zords can combine into the Megazord. And every week, evil witch Rita Repulsa sends monsters from her Moon palace to destroy Angel Grove. Cue giant battles, Rita tossing her magic wand to super-size her monsters, and the Rangers winning… every time.
Also lurking around are the “bullies” Bulk and Skull — honestly my favorite side characters. They’re incompetent, ridiculous, and constantly embarrassing themselves through slapstick.

Absurd Episodes & Moments
This show was corny and bonkers, but that’s what makes it fun. A few highlights:
Mighty Morphin Mutants – Rita trains five Putties to be “Evil Rangers,” but they’re just wearing grey gloves and belts. Leader? A crayfish monster named Commander Crayfish. Creative… right?
The Lizzinator – Basically the Terminator but a humanoid lizard with a bad Arnold Schwarzenegger impression.
Halloween Special – Rita sends a Frankenstein monster to a school costume contest. Rangers think it’s Tommy in costume until it starts wrecking the place.
Two-Headed Chicken Monster – “Two heads are better than one!” Except both heads argue constantly. Genius move, Rita.

Honorable Mention: The Fairy Tale Two-Parter 📖
In Season 2, the Rangers get sucked into a magical fairy tale book. In part two, Rita busts out an “evil wizard” named Mondo the Magician. And… if Rita can just pull fully-formed villains out of literature, why is she still wasting time making clay monsters?
Mondo’s screen time? About three minutes before he’s defeated. Which raises the question — if you kill a book character… do they vanish from all copies of that story forever, or just the one you were inside?

Notable Villains
Rita Repulsa – Over-the-top evil witch who never learns from her mistakes.
Goldar – Humanoid ape in gold armor, loyal but always losing.
Lord Zedd (Season 2) – Honestly one of the best villain designs in kids’ TV. Muscles, exposed brain, sharp metal claws — terrifying for its time.
Rito Revolto – Rita’s boneheaded skeleton brother. Dumb but oddly entertaining.

Spoilers – Major Story Arcs
Green With Evil (5-Parter) – Rita brainwashes newcomer Tommy Oliver into becoming her evil Green Ranger. He infiltrates the Command Center, destroys the Megazord, and nearly wins — until Jason defeats him and destroys Rita’s control sword. Tommy joins the team and gets the Dragonzord.
White Ranger Reveal – After losing his Green Ranger powers, Tommy returns as the White Ranger, a surprise Zordon kept from the team.
Lord Zedd’s Arrival – Kicks Rita out for failing too many times. Brings more dangerous monsters but still can’t beat the Rangers.
Island of Illusion (2-Parter) – Rita and Lokar teleport the Rangers to an island that removes their powers. They must overcome personal illusions to escape.
Season 3 Finale – Rita and Zedd turn the Rangers into children. Alien Rangers temporarily take over. Meanwhile, Goldar and Rito plant a bomb in the Command Center. When it detonates, the Rangers barely escape as the HQ explodes. They regroup in Zordon’s hidden base and become the Zeo Rangers.
Funny Moments between Goldar and Rito:
Rito: yep this looks like the place, all right now where cooling baby (proceeds to accidentally collapse into boxes) uh uh I meant to do that
Goldar: shhhh Quiet ur gonna wake up the whole entire neighborhood
Rito: u don’t get out much do u?
Goldar: errrgg get a life will u?
Rito: I got a life and I’m loving it
Goldar: u call that living? Your pathetic
Rito: Oh how very nice for u to notice
Rito: woah now that was a little to close don’t u think?
Goldar: are u crazy? Why didn’t u tell her the truth?
Rito: what’s the big deal? All we have to do is grab that crystal before this thing goes off, then we have it made
Goldar: ur nuts
Rito: relax goldie stop stressing think positive u will live longer, as long as this thing doesn’t go off hehehe

Final Thoughts
Corny? Absolutely. Cringe-worthy moments? Plenty. But Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is pure nostalgic fun. The mix of absurd villains, 90s cheese, and legitimately cool moments (especially with Tommy) keeps it watchable even today.
Two things that don’t hold up:
1. Zack, the Black Ranger, being Black.
2. Trini, the Yellow Ranger, being Asian.
Yeah… not a good look today.
Rating: 8/10
🚨Spoilers – How MMPR Ends🚨
By the end of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers season 3, Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd pull off one of their very few actual victories. They come up with a plan to permanently take the Rangers out of commission — by magically turning them back into kids. Without their adult forms, they can’t morph, can’t pilot their Zords, and are completely dependent on Zordon to figure out a fix.
While Zordon and Alpha 5 scramble for a solution, a new alien team called the Alien Rangers arrives from the planet Aquitar to temporarily take over protecting Earth. These water-based Rangers are strong, but they can’t survive long without constant access to water, which makes them vulnerable. Rita and Zedd try to exploit that, keeping them busy while setting up a far bigger threat in the background.
Meanwhile, Rito Revolto (Rita’s bone-headed skeleton brother) and Goldar sneak into the Command Center with a massive bomb, set to detonate in 33 minutes. They’re supposed to wait until the Rangers’ mystical Zeo Crystal is out in the open — a power source so strong it can restore the Rangers to normal and upgrade their abilities — before triggering the explosion. Of course, in typical Rito-and-Goldar fashion, they accidentally arm the bomb early but decide not to tell Rita.
Eventually, the young Rangers recover the Zeo Crystal and use it to return to their original ages. The Alien Rangers leave, having done their part. The moment the crystal is in their hands, Rito and Goldar teleport in, snatch it, and say “thanks” before vanishing. Seconds later, the bomb detonates — and the Command Center is obliterated in a massive explosion right before the Rangers’ eyes.
It looks like total defeat… until Zordon reveals a hidden underground base. From there, he unveils their next evolution: they will become the Zeo Rangers, powered by the Zeo Crystal. This sets the stage for the next chapter in the franchise, Power Rangers Zeo.
