So I’m kinda late to this film…..I only for the first time watched it in October of 2022….I gotta admit I can see why it’s a classic……I will admit this I didn’t know how dark this film was because for a Disney film, oh boy is this dark as all heck….firstly we start off in the Salem witch trials where our 3 main witches the Sanderson sisters get hunged to death in public…..if ur wondering what there crime is well they sucked the soul out of a little kid to the point all was left of her was bones…..yeah keep in mind this is a Disney film….and so far we just opened on 3 middle-aged women suckling the soul out of a girl till she’s bones, then the 3 sisters get hunged to death which we see them getting hunged btw……a Disney film? Huh?…anyways cut now to modern day Salem, where we get introduced to our group of kids we follow during this film…..btw I prefer this kids in this film over the kids in the second film, nothing against the actors it’s just the script given to the kids in this film I prefer….now I’m not saying these actors are better no far from it these kid actors are terrible actors, they can’t act…..they kinda tone Deaf…plus for some reason one of the main characters just goes through this movie not looking or sounding concerned or worried about anything happening…for instance the 3 characters bring the 3 witches back from the dead by accident…..by finding and using the book or something, so the sisters are now revived…..and the reaction of this main girl is basically just this…hmmmm well that’s strange…..nothing out of the ordinary here this is normal……, yeah sorry that’s not how a kid is gonna react if the see anything come back from the dead let alone 3 witches…there reaction isn’t gonna be hmmmm hmmm why yes hmmm hmmmm………hahahahaha anyways so now with the 3 witches back they want to destroy Salem because they banished them……oh btw guess what these 3 witches do first they revive a zombie, well let me be precise….they revive there ex lover named Billy Butcherson……wait my bad did I say ex lover…..pffft my bad he isn’t her lover, according to him later and in the second film he and rhe main witch named Winifred, once just once and he didn’t even like her….then eventually poisoned him apparently then stitch up his lips then lay him to rest…BTW did I forget to mention this zombie has a stitched up mouth so he can’t speak?….yeah this is a kids film btw!!….think how f**ked up this is, a guy who unfortunately gets roped into a clearly a toxic relationship….just to then be poisoned to death then have his mouth stitched up then buried…….kid family film? Huh?….oh if u think that’s bad well Billy Butcherson starts chasing the kids down but thwy decapitate him by swinging a branch at him…decapitation in a kids film….yayyy?….oh if u think that’s bad, later Billy Butcherson is sticking his head out of the sewer drain cover in the middle of the road…..and a moving car comes by, unfortunately his hands where sticking slightly out of the cover so the car squashed his fingers off him…..yikes, also while this happens the Sanderson sisters go to a store to find brooms……each witch finds a broom of sorts…..Winifred finds a normal Broom and rides it…..the younger sister named Sarah Sanderson who is the dim-witted one finds a mop I think and rides it then the third sister Mary Sanderson finds a vaccum and rides it….ok that’s amusing, btw this similar joke comes back into play in the second film……anyways so in the final act of the film well things get weird, firstly Billy Butcherson catches up yonks a knife out of the kids hands and uses it to cut open the stitches off his mouth……ehhhh, then he proceeds to cuss out the Sanderson sisters…….also the kids start battling the witches also a cat they bumped into earlier who they find out is not a cat but a boy been turned into a cat….yeah get this in the Salem witch Era the Sanderson sisters turned a boy into a cat….after he witnessed them suckling the life out of his younger sister….yeah that girl in the begging was her sister, jeepers this is dark……anyways so the cat tries to attack them but they just toss the cat against a tree which kills it btw….Jesus…….but luckily the sun comes up freezing the Sanderson sisters into stone….btw Idk how they were planning on to destroy all of Salem in one day if the sun will kill them…..yeah let’s not try to find logic here….also i love the way that Winifred turns to stone she for some reason screams ohhhhhhhhhhh……pffff hahhaha im sorry what? Whats ohhhhhhhhhh…..anyways Billy Butcherson goes back to sleep in his grave, they try to revive the cat but it’s dead but don’t worry the spirit of the boy is happy because now he can reunite with his sister in the afterlife…..wow that’s a bitter sweet end….anyways the end honestly I can see why people love this film and is considered a classic….overall I give it a solid 9/10 worth a watch it’s on Disney plus
