One Piece (2026) – Season 2

One Piece (2026) – Season 2 Review 🏴‍☠️☠️🦜

Dinosaurs, exploding boogers, wax prisons, a psychotic paint child, and a blue-nosed reindeer doctor. Welcome back to the Grand Line.

Let’s start by showing y’all the trailers shall we? 🎬

Finally its been 3 years since the release of One Piece season one, we’ve all been waiting in anticipation, so does this season hold up to season one? Lets find out.

Content Note ⚠️

Just a quick heads up before getting into the review: this season does have a couple brief moments of partial nudity. There are scenes where Nami appears shirtless (shown from the back / shoulders up) and Zoro is shirtless during recovery scenes. Nothing graphic, but it’s there for a moment, so just something to be aware of going in.

Non-Spoiler Plot Overview 🏴‍☠️

Season two picks up immediately after the Straw Hat Pirates enter the Grand Line.

Luffy and the crew are still chasing the One Piece, but the moment they arrive their journey gets sidetracked by about twenty different adventures.

Instead of simply sailing from island to island searching for treasure, the crew ends up helping a mysterious princess who asks them to escort her back to her homeland.

What begins as a simple escort mission slowly reveals that there is a much larger conspiracy going on involving a secret criminal organization called Baroque Works.

Along the way the Straw Hats land on islands that get increasingly weird.

One island has dinosaurs and giant warriors locked in an endless duel.

Another island turns into a giant death trap involving wax sculptures and assassins with bizarre abilities.

Then the story shifts to a frozen kingdom in the mountains where the crew must find a doctor to save one of their own.

By the end of the season it becomes clear the Straw Hats have accidentally stepped into the middle of a much larger conflict.

And the story clearly isn’t finished yet.

This season works as a branching season.

Character Rundown 🎭

Season two introduces a lot of characters, so here we go.

Straw Hat Pirates

Monkey D. Luffy – Iñaki Godoy
The captain of the Straw Hats and the most optimistic human being alive. He has rubber powers thanks to a Devil Fruit and approaches everything like it’s a fun adventure.

Roronoa Zoro – Mackenyu
The swordsman of the crew. Drinks a lot, asks a lot of questions, and slices people when necessary.

Nami – Emily Rudd
Navigator of the crew and the smartest one in the room most of the time.

Usopp – Jacob Romero Gibson
Storyteller, engineer, and chaotic wildcard.

Sanji – Taz Skylar
Cook of the crew. Kicks people instead of punching them and flirts with every woman he meets.

Tony Tony Chopper – voiced by Mikaela Hoover
A blue-nosed reindeer who ate a Devil Fruit that lets him talk and transform. Also a doctor.

Returning Characters

Buggy – Jeff Ward
Returns in the opening episode and is still as chaotic as ever.

Alvida – Ilia Isorelýs Paulino
Also returns, now dramatically slimmer thanks to a Devil Fruit.

Vice Admiral Garp – Vincent Regan
Still hunting pirates and trying to deal with Luffy’s nonsense.

New Characters:

Smoker – Callum Kerr

He was hinted at the end of season one, so what is he like?

He’s a Marine captain with smoke powers who is absolutely obsessed with chasing Luffy. And he got his powers from the Devil’s Fruit.

I love his design he has white slick back hair, he wears a marine cost with cigars on his coat. He always smokes 2 cigars at once, yeah his ability is he can turn into smoke, and he also smokes. Thats an irony, also he has a 3 wheeled green motorbike that he rides on top the water (yeah dont ask).

Also the way he defeats pirates is by putting smokes into their body, so hes essentially giving them cancer, uhhh yikes.

Also heres his fight scene with Luffy.

I should tell you right now, if you thinks he’s gonna be a major threat? Don’t, because his attentions get shifted elsewhere by Episode 2.

Notice how I said attentions, not intentions. We’ll get to that later.

Also who’s that hooded figure who saves Monkey D Luffy? Turns out (is had to do research) but turns out hes his dad, Monkey D Dragon, dunn dunn dunn!!!!

Tashigi – Julia Rehwald
Smoker’s lieutenant and the one who actually seems to be paying attention to the bigger threats.

Baroque Works

This organization has the weirdest naming system imaginable.

Mr. 0 – Crocodile
The mysterious leader of Baroque Works.

Miss All-Sunday – Nico Robin
His partner and second-in-command. Also shes the most mysterious one.

Mr. 3 – Galdino (David Dastmalchian)
Uses wax powers and has hair shaped like the number 3, yes you heard that correctly.

Miss Goldenweek – Marianne
The creepy child who controls people using emotion-based paint. This show made her more horrifying, they leaned into horror with her, this is a quote of hers she says.

“Friends let you down. Not like toys. When toys stop being fun, you can put them back in the box. I tried to explain that to my parents, but they didn’t understand. So I painted them too and put them in a box. They were so noisy in there… for the first few days”.

Yeah that right there is straight up implication that she murdered her parents, uhhhhh yikes.

Mr. 5 – Gem
Explosive powers.

Yes.

Even his boogers explode.

Miss Valentine – Mikita
Floats using an umbrella and can suddenly increase her weight massively.

Mr. 8 – Igaram

Mr. 8 is one of the higher-ranking agents of Baroque Works and operates undercover in the town where the Straw Hats first run into the organization. His real identity is Igaram, the loyal guard and protector of Princess Vivi.

He has one of the weirdest hairstyles in the season. His hair is styled like two massive round curls on the sides of his head, and hidden inside that hair are cannons. Yes, actual cannons. When he pulls the strings on his tie the curls open up and start firing cannon shots.

So his whole combat gimmick is basically that his hair is a pair of artillery weapons, which is exactly the kind of ridiculous design this show loves.

Despite the absurd appearance, Igaram is actually very loyal and protective of Vivi and acts almost like a father figure to her. His whole undercover role inside Baroque Works is meant to help protect her while they try to figure out what the organization is planning.

Mr. 9 – “The Riddler 2.0”

Mr. 9 is another Baroque Works agent and honestly the moment you see him you might think:

“Did Edward Nigma from Batman somehow end up in One Piece?”

Because he basically looks like the Riddler 2.0.

He wears a green outfit, has question marks on the sides of his face and has that smug chaotic energy that makes him feel like he belongs in Gotham rather than the Grand Line.

His fighting style is also pretty ridiculous. He uses a pair of baseball bat–like weapons connected by ropes, which he swings around to attack enemies from a distance or pull them closer.

He’s loud, cocky, and overly theatrical, which fits perfectly with the whole Baroque Works theme of over-the-top personalities.

So yeah, if you watched this season and immediately thought “that guy looks like Edward Nigma,” you’re definitely not the only one.

Miss Wednesday – Vivi (Charithra Chandran)
Actually the princess of Alabasta.

Miss Thursday
The assassin with the green afro who fights using baseball attacks.

Mr. 11
A strange assassin with a named sword.

Mr. 13 and Miss Friday
Messenger animals who deliver orders.

Drum Island Characters

Wapol
Possibly the worst king imaginable. Has the ability to eat anything and transform his body. Aldo there’s nothing redeeming about him, hes arrogant, selfish, egotistical.

Also, don’t ask me what’s on his head.I don’t I don’t know what that hat is, but then I guess the better question be is, why are you weirded out by the hat? But not the fact that he has a metal jaw.

Dalton
A loyal protector of the kingdom.

Doctor Hiriluk
The strange doctor who raised Chopper. Trust me weird is thr lightest description i can give him because his hair is all over the place, I have no words.

Doctor Kureha
The witch-like doctor living on the mountain.

Tony Tony Chopper

Tony Tony Chopper is introduced this season and becomes the newest member of the Straw Hat Pirates. Chopper is a small blue-nosed reindeer who ate a Human-Human Devil Fruit, which allows him to talk, think like a human, and transform between different forms.

He serves as the doctor of the crew, making him an important addition since the Straw Hats didn’t have a medical expert before.

At first Chopper is extremely shy and nervous around people. He often tries to hide from strangers, and when he does it he hilariously hides the wrong way so you can still see him sticking out from behind walls.

Despite looking small and cute, Chopper is capable of transforming into stronger forms when needed thanks to his Devil Fruit abilities.

His mix of innocence, awkwardness, and surprising strength makes him a fun new dynamic for the Straw Hat crew, and he quickly becomes one of the most lovable characters introduced this season.

Loguetown Characters:

Bartolomeo – (appears briefly in Episode 1)

Bartolomeo is the shady green-haired guy who shows up early on and talks to Luffy near the execution platform where Gol D. Roger was executed. He has the wild green hair, sharp teeth, nose ring, and that chaotic grin that makes him look like someone you probably shouldn’t trust for even five minutes.

When we first meet him he’s basically acting like a street hustler. He tells Luffy something along the lines of how he’s a “famous guy around here because of my generosity,” which immediately sounds like complete nonsense. The whole interaction gives off the vibe that he’s either trying to scam Luffy, size him up, or just stir up trouble. He brings Luffy over to the execution site where the Pirate King was hanged, which is where things start escalating with the Marines and Smoker showing up.

So yeah, first impression: shady guy, chaotic energy, looks like he belongs in some kind of pirate punk gang.

What’s funny though is that later in the story Bartolomeo actually becomes one of the biggest fans of the Straw Hat Pirates. Like, not just a fan — the guy practically worships Luffy. He collects their wanted posters, talks about them like legends, and gets ridiculously excited whenever he hears their names.

He also has a Devil Fruit ability that lets him create barrier walls that are basically indestructible, which makes him extremely dangerous in fights despite his goofy personality.

So the guy who first shows up acting like a sketchy street criminal eventually becomes one of the most loyal Straw Hat supporters in the entire world.

Monkey D. Dragon – (Brief appearance – Major future character)

⚠️ Okay, spoilers ahead for the wider story of One Piece. This isn’t important to Season Two itself, but it explains who this character actually is and why his appearance matters.

Monkey D. Dragon is the mysterious hooded man who appears during the Loguetown events and stops Smoker from capturing Luffy. He only shows up for a moment, but that moment is actually a massive reveal for the larger story.

First thing to know: Monkey D. Dragon is Luffy’s father.

And unlike Luffy, who is basically running around the world chasing adventure and food, Dragon is one of the most dangerous men alive in the entire One Piece world.

Dragon is the leader of the Revolutionary Army, a massive underground organization whose goal is to overthrow the World Government. In other words, while pirates challenge the government on the seas, Dragon is actively trying to bring down the entire political system.

Because of this, he’s considered one of the most wanted and feared criminals on the planet.

When he appears in Loguetown and Smoker suddenly backs off, that moment isn’t random. Smoker recognizes exactly who he is dealing with. If Dragon is present, the situation just became much bigger than chasing one pirate crew.

Another interesting detail is that the storm that suddenly appears during that scene seems to be connected to Dragon. It’s heavily implied that his abilities may have something to do with wind or weather, though the show keeps that mysterious.

The important thing for now is that Dragon operates from the shadows. Luffy doesn’t even know his father was there. Dragon simply watches from a distance and intervenes when necessary.

So even though he only appears briefly, Monkey D. Dragon is one of the biggest players in the entire world of One Piece, and his presence hints that the Straw Hats are slowly getting pulled into conflicts that go far beyond simple pirate adventures.

Pacing / Episode Flow ⏱️

Season two moves through multiple mini arcs across its episodes.

Little Garden → Wax Trap → Drum Island.

Each arc feels like its own adventure but also feeds into the larger story.

The tone jumps between ridiculous comedy and surprisingly emotional storytelling, but somehow the show manages to make it work.

Pros 👍

The biggest improvement this season is the expanded world.

Every island feels completely different.

The villains are also much more memorable.

Baroque Works is filled with characters that have some of the weirdest powers imaginable.

And the emotional storytelling — especially the Chopper storyline — hits much harder than expected.

This season goes absolutely off the rails, trust me y’all arent ready for whats to come.

Cons 👎

The show gets extremely weird.

Even by this show’s standards.

And the season clearly ends with a setup for the next arc, meaning the story feels unfinished.

Writing Change Behind the Scenes ✍️

Small nitpick of mine, some these characters don’t translate we’ll into screen i mean to me Warpol looks like a cosplayer.

But also in thr council back flash scene you got one guy who looks like Abraham Lincoln, no wish I was kidding, and another guy looking like a stereotype of a Mexican with a giant son brero. Like seriously what are these costumes?

Also ill day this, its not a issue but the final episode is gonna test your patience. The vibe of the final episode i can best describe it as is a mix between Power Rangers, and the low budget Frankenstein’s Army film, thats the level of absurdity were dealing with.

One thing I should mention is that one of the writers from Season One is no longer on the show. That worried some fans at first because Season One’s writing was one of the reasons the show worked so well. But honestly after watching Season Two, I don’t think the show suffered from that change at all. If anything the writing actually feels more confident this season. The world is bigger, the characters get more room to breathe, and the emotional beats land harder — especially during the Drum Island storyline.

Final Thoughts 💭

Season two proves the live-action adaptation wasn’t a fluke.

The world gets bigger, the villains get stranger, and the emotional moments hit harder.

The Straw Hats still feel less like terrifying pirates and more like the Goonies on a pirate ship.

And honestly?

That’s why the show works.

Im happy yo say 2 seasons in and im in love with this show, no I’ll never watch the anime, I couldn’t stand episode 1, plus theres over a thousand episodes. Netflix needs to make this show their next flag ship series since Stranger Things is done (no not really, but y’all know what i mean).

I do, like how a lot of time the show can be extremely goofy, but then get very serious and ask you to be like, but hold on a minute we’re talking about something very serious, to the point where you’re just like, get the f*** out of here. But that’s what works about this show.

Spoiler Warning ⚠️

Alright.

From this point forward we are diving into full spoilers.

Spoilers 🏴‍☠️

The Baroque Works insanity

The moment we start meeting the Baroque Works agents you immediately realize something.

What is with these names?

Mr. 3
Mr. 5
Miss Goldenweek
Miss Valentine
Miss Thursday

Why are some numbers and some days of the week?

Who designed this naming system?

It feels like someone just looked at a calendar and went “yeah that’ll work.”

And then you get their powers.

Miss Valentine floats around with an umbrella and suddenly weighs thousands of pounds.

Mr. 5 fights using explosive boogers.

Yes.

Explosive.

Boogers.

At that point you realize this show has completely embraced the ridiculous.

Little Garden chaos

The Straw Hats land on Little Garden and immediately start dealing with dinosaurs.

Luffy is riding dinosaurs like this is the greatest day of his life.

Meanwhile Zoro and Sanji kill a T-Rex and immediately start arguing about who killed it better.

Which somehow becomes a competition.

Because of course it does.

Then we meet the giants who have been fighting each other for so long they forgot why they started fighting.

They just keep fighting because of honor.

The Wax Trap and Goldenweek

Mr. 3 traps everyone in wax and decides to turn them into wax statues as art.

Then we meet the absolute nightmare character Miss Goldenweek.

She controls emotions with paint.

She forces Luffy to sit at a tea party.

She makes him punch himself.

She tries to make him walk into the ocean.

Then she says she prefers dolls to friends.

Then she tries to say she’s cursed to be alone.

Goldenweek also tries to play the “I’m cursed to be alone” card.

And my reaction was basically:

Well gee, I can’t imagine why nobody wants to hang out with you.

Maybe it’s because you mind-control people, treat them like dolls, and put them in boxes when you’re bored with them.

Yeah… real mystery there. Must be a curse.

The Sanji Den Den Mushi moment

Sanji answers the Den Den Mushi call from Mr. 0.

He realizes what’s happening and literally puts the call on hold.

Meanwhile he fights the messenger animals.

One of them pops in and says “probably want a cracker”.

Sanji snaps the bird’s neck.

Then he finishes the fight and picks up the phone again and calmly says:

“Sorry. Your pets are dead.”

That scene was hilarious.

Smoker rant

Smoker spends the entire season chasing Luffy.

And I kept thinking:

There is a massive criminal organization manipulating world politics.

But Smoker?

He wants the Straw Hats.

The Straw Hats are basically the PG-friendly version of pirates.

They don’t kill people.

Half the time they’re just excited about snow.

They’re basically the Goonies.

Yet Smoker is convinced Luffy is the biggest threat.

Smoker vs Miss Thursday – The Baseball Fight

There’s a really funny scene in the bunker where Smoker runs into Miss Thursday, one of the Baroque Works agents, and the whole fight turns into this ridiculous baseball-themed moment.

Miss Thursday shows up with her big green afro and starts attacking Smoker using a baseball. She throws it around the bunker and it keeps bouncing off the walls like a boomerang while she’s making baseball jokes the entire time. At one point she throws a line like:

“I guess not everyone here is qualified for the majors.”

Smoker is clearly getting annoyed by the constant baseball puns. Eventually she throws another attack at him and Smoker just swings his sword like it’s a baseball bat and smacks the ball right back at her.

The ball flies straight back and hits her in the neck, knocking her out and sending her over the railing.

And then Smoker delivers the perfect one-liner:

“Hit the bench.”

Then he turns away and mutters something like he can’t believe she got him making baseball jokes too.

He says, “Great… now she’s got me doing it.” it’s funny because he’s usually ultra serious. But I guess the power of puns is contagious

The whole scene is just completely absurd, but it’s one of the funniest little fight moments in the season. ⚾😄

Drum Island and Wapol

Then we meet Wapol.

This guy ran away when Blackbeard attacked his island.

Then came back expecting to still rule.

Sir.

You ran away.

You’re not a king.

You’re a coward wearing a crown.

Chopper’s story

This part hit hard.

Chopper was rejected by his herd because of his blue nose.

Then he ate a Devil Fruit and became even more of an outcast.

Doctor Hiriluk takes him in.

There’s a scene where the doctor shares bread with him.

Chopper is crying because it’s the first time someone treated him kindly.

That scene made me tear up.

Then we find out the doctor is dying.

He pushes Chopper away so he doesn’t have to watch him die. I am not crying, your crying.

Chopper is outside the door begging.

The doctor is crying inside.

That scene hurt.

Then the mushroom reveal happens.

Chopper thought he found a cure.

But the mushroom was poisonous.

The doctor eats it anyway because he doesn’t want to break Chopper’s heart.

Then he sacrifices himself by blowing himself up.

That entire storyline was depressing.

Wapol vs Luffy

When Wapol comes in through the secret passage which I don’t know how he knew of that, he starts monologing as an evil villain way saying i’ve come back to take my rightful place, and that the princess have p***** off a lot of important people.

But then he gets distracted and says what the hell is he doing?

Then they both look back at Monkey D Luffy who’s just stretching his leg and arms? And he’s saying i’m stretching. Hahahahaha, thats such a Luffy thing, not taking any this seriously.

During the final fight Wapol slices the sleeve off Luffy’s jacket.

Luffy says:

“Oh man I hope Nami doesn’t find out.”

Wapol literally yells:

“Can you take this seriously?! I’m trying to kill you!”

That moment sums up Luffy perfectly.

The ending

The Straw Hats recruit Chopper.

Smoker heads toward Alabasta. Because after listening to the recording he realizes all signs point to Alabasta, also he says the secret identity of mr. 0 cannot become public or else it will start a war.

And we finally see Mr. 0.

The guy with the golden hook and the scar. And thanks to him we find out the identity of ms. All Sunday, her name is Nico Robin, a name she doesnt like going by anymore.

Btw even though I never watched the anime, I instantly recognized him because ive seen images of his character before.

And the season ends.

Which feels like the show saying:

“Stay tuned next week.”

Except next week is probably two years away.

Anyways see y’all in 2ish years for season 3, until then I hope y’all enjoyed todays reveiw. Also heres a trailer for the next show im super excited for and its a star wars show.

See y’all then.
