Captain America Brave New World

Captain America Brave New World: Let’s start by showing y’all the trailers shall we?

Yeah, I know another Marvel film, ugh. But hear me out, actually, I got nothing. Ur right, I’m starting to feel the same way with Marvel as I am with Star Wars, a bunch of blah.

In Memory of William Hurt (1950–2022)
William Hurt brought a commanding and complex presence to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. Whether he was barking orders or quietly observing the fractured Avengers, Hurt gave Ross a stern gravitas and a layered moral ambiguity that made him far more than just a government mouthpiece. His contributions to film and television extended far beyond the MCU, but for fans like me, his Ross remains unforgettable.
Rest in power, General.

Born March 20th 1950, Died March 13th 2022

So what is even the plot of Captain America Brave New World? Idk I’m legit asking what is the plot. It’s everywhere.

This film is both a sequel to The Incredible Hulk and a slight tie-in to the Eternals.

I say tie-in, but more like it’s Tying up loose ends that the Eternals set up.

Remember the eternals? Remember The Incredible Hulk? How it came out 16 years ago? Also, I’m giving this film a new name, it’s not Captain America 4, it’s The Incredible Captain Hulk.

Not saying that’s not a bad thing, just saying what the film is essentially. Also, what does this mean it’s a sequel to the Incredible Hulk? Well we get the return of

Thaddeus Ross (this time played by Harrison Ford)

Tim Blake Nelson (still played by Samuel Sterns)

Betty Ross (still played by Liv Tyler)

Also, they bring in an Ex Black Widow who is of Jewish accent. Btw the character she was supposed to play was getting tons of controversy so they reshot her scenes and her entirely to just be an ex black widow.

BTW I thought I’d hate Harrison Ford as Thaddeus Ross because he sounds and looks nothing like the original actor who passed away (William Hurt, may he rest in peace), but he surprisingly did a good job.

Might be the best role I’ve seen Harrison Ford in a while, also if y’all wondering why Ross doesn’t have a mustache? The film does give a good reason.

The reason is that his marketing team told him to lose the stache because it reminded people too much of his original self when he was a bit problematic.

He wants to turn over a new leaf, and show he’s changed. I actually don’t mind that reasoning.

On top of all that, I am not gonna say people are looking for things that aren’t there but we’re living in the worst time period when it comes to politics, so I kinda find it bizarre that Disney said hey let’s make this movie heavily focus around politics and a morally corrupt president then turns angry/big/red.

Hmmmmm subtly? I think not! With all that u kinda get a Frankenstein stitched together of a plot.

Also, this film is a sort of sequel to Falcon and Winter Soldier, this film brings back

Isaiah Bradley (still played by Carl Lumbly)

Joaquin Torres (still played by Danny Rameriz) (he’s the new Falcon)

And Sam Wilson (still played by Anthony Mackie)  (he’s still struggling to live up to the name Captain America, wait a minute didn’t the show already resolve this?)

So with all that u end up with a Frankenstein stitched together of a plot, it’s a sequel to Falcon and Winter, it’s a sort of sequel to The Eternals, and it’s a sequel to The Incredible Hulk.

What isn’t this film a sequel of? Oh and on top of all that it’s here to set up the future of the MCU, including the future of the Xmen.

On top of all that, it’s a political thriller, this is just too much. I’m surprised this film turned out to be passable, should have come out as a mess.

Also keep in mind folks where officially now 2 movies away from Avengers Doomsday and we still have no build-up to Doom himself, this whole Multiverse Saga has been a mess and I can’t wait for it to be done.

Also, this film is plagued by tons of exposition dumping, yeah I kid u not the entire opening is just one giant exposition dump given to us the audience by a news reporter.

Because that’s how people talk, don’t u just know that? But this film does have some spectacular fight scenes (most of the time at least), especially that fight scene with the Red Hulk.

Speaking of, don’t come into this film expecting to see tons of red hulk. I mean he’s in this film for longer than I expected. Roughly 7 min, but that’s it. He’s only in the film for 7 min and all the way to the end when the 3rd act kicks into play.

They really shot themselves in the foot by heavily focusing the advertisement around Red Hulk, they needed to have saved that for the film.

The issue is trailers these days show too much of the film, this is worse. Also, this film’s so-called plot twist revolves around Thaddeus Ross becoming Red Hulk.

Except the issue there is they already spoiled that in the trailers, and the marketing. Yep our political thriller ladies and gentlemen, also the film is afraid to have any political message.

Which is weird because the film is about Thaddeus Ross becoming president, so take that as what u will. But we never get to find out how he came into office, what political side he’s on. All we know is he wants a treaty between America and Japan to work out.

I will say the heart of the film is focused around Thaddeus Ross, this guy has done some awful stuff, some evil stuff he’s perceived as for the greater good.

Heck, his horrible deeds led to his daughter being estranged from him, and he now wants to have his daughter back.

He keeps saying he’s not that person anymore, he’s tried to put that past self behind him, but the thing is he refuses to take responsibility for any actions he’s done in the past.

For example, he refuses to admit he locked up Tim Blake and framed the Abomination situation on him, again he’s done some horrible things and he should be held accountable.

But that’s the beauty of this film. He does have a story arc, by the end of the film he’s forced to come to terms with what he’s done, he’s matured if u will.

To me the best characters in this film were

Thaddeus Ross

Isaiah Bradley

Those 2 are the heart of the film, u just feel bad for Isaiah since he’s put back in prison. After he’s been locked up for ages and tortured on, he just because he fought for America and that’s how they thanked him.

No wonder why he’s hurt by America.

Now if u have a hard time buying Harrison Ford General Ross and William Hurts General Ross as one and the same, well I can’t help u there because that’s a completely different issue, sometimes actors (actually who am I kidding. All the time) actors don’t have the same charisma and energy to their roles.

But this isn’t the first time the MCU has recast, we had Edward Norton as Bruce Banner, then Mark Ruffalo, we had Terrance Howard as Rody, then Don Cheadle. So this isn’t new for Disney or the MCU.

Side note, no offense to Anthony Mackie or the scriptwriters but I find Steve Roger’s more compelling than Sam Wilson’s, the reason is because the whole idea of a young looking man who’s over 100 years old who came from WW2 time period.

Gets plopped into the modern day and now has to get used to the modern day, and accept it. It’s kinda like a fish out of water narrative, with Sam Wilson the only thing going for him is he’s a really good person.

And he has wings, yeah does that seem as compelling?

Side thing, the main villain in this film amounts to essentially a cameo, yeah u heard that right. The main villain gets very little screen time, and then gets whisked away back to prison before the 3rd act starts.

So really we didn’t need this villain at all, well ok we did but not the way this film utilized his screen time. I want to mention what the villain major plot is.

So back in 2008 right after the events of the Incredible Hulk, Ross pinned the entire Abomination rampage on Tim Blake, and arrested him in a secret facility.

Held him there for 16 years. Had him help Ross out. Told him he’d be out of prison once he’s president but he never gets set free, why? Well, wait for spoilers for that.

So Tim Blake escapes so he can expose Ross as a monster (both literally and figuratively) I’ll explain that in spoilers, unless u already watched the trailer and can get an idea where this film is going.

And after all is said and done once he’s F’d over Ross for ruining his life he will go back to prison happily this time (huhhhhh).

That’s his biggest evil scheme? We waited 16 years to see the introduction to The Leader in the MCU, and this is his master plan. Show the world that Ross is a monster because he locked up Tim Blake.

Which ruined his life for 16 years and was experimented on, and after is all said in done he will go back to prison happily, even though this all started because he was locked in prison and wanted out. Uhhhhh huh, ok so why does it seem like the script writers were at odds with each other?

Who agrees his motivation could have been so much better? Hey here’s an idea how about expose to everyone it was thanks to Ross and the Acords he made which split up the Avengers. Is what well split up the Avengers.

Which led the world defenseless when Thanos came to earth in 2018 and wiped out humanity because the Avengers were split and couldn’t work together!

That would surely taint Ross’s legacy, but nah the villain’s evil plan amounted to “Hey hey everyone looks I’m angry and bitter because your so-called president locked me up for 16 years and promised to let me go, and he didn’t. So uh yeah Ross time for u to Red Hulk out now”

Again, Disney plz fire ur scriptwriters u have been hiring.

Also now let’s talk about that design change of The Leader, then I’ll give my quick plot rundown. Oh boy, this redesign.

So in the comics, the leader is green, has an egg-shaped big head, has black hair, and a black goatee. In the film however, he has none of that.

Here he’s green, has blobs bulging out his head, has a pink eye on one eye for some reason, has no goatee this time, and barely any hair. The guy looks like he needs a good bowl of soup. He looks ILL.

Comic Leader
MCU Leader

Seriously what the hell is that? Try telling me that’s Leader. Why does he look like a methhead broccoli?

Btw there were leaked images of what originally he was gonna look like.

That looks better

Why didn’t we get that design?

Also last issue this is the first MCU film without the iconic comic Marvel montage opening. Why did they cut it out? I have zero idea.

Also, how’s this film a tie-in to the Eternals? Well glad u asked because this is the perfect time to give a rundown of the plot.

So in this film, Thaddeus Ross has become president of the United States, they have discovered this Sentinel which they’ve named Celestial Island.

Which has adamantium in it (cue Xmen music) that’s right adamantium. Our first debut of it in the MCU, as it’s described in this film. More stronger than Vibranium, hmmm doubt it.

During one night at the white house during a Congress that

Isaiah

Sam and the new Falcon

Is invited to (well Bradley wasn’t invited, San asked Ross to invite him), anyways that night all of a sudden Bradley gets up and tries to shoot Ross. Along with some of the agents.

They are arrested, yet he has no regulation of that night, something is afoot. All the while Ross the president has to keep his alliance with Iraq,

Israel and Japan, to make trade and alliance with Adamantium, but things are falling apart.

Which is all due to the Leader plan. For u see General Ross locked up Tim Blake all those years ago and wants revenge now, by exposing Ross to everyone.

Side note this film once again feels everywhere, one scene u have Ross saying to Sam Wilson “Work with me Sam, let’s rebuild thr Avengers” couple minutes later something happens “All right Sam, ur out I don’t want to work with u anymore”

Huh, what? Movie can u plz stick in one lane?

BTW to give y’all another idea of how much this film is being held together by duct tape, spoilers. The film reveals to us that Isaiah was mind controlled, he acted differently when he shot at Ross. He has no regulation.

On the security camera, they see his phone flashes lights at his face and other agent’s face, clearly mind control, also keep in mind this is the same universe where The Black Widow members got brainwashed, and Bucky got brainwashed or mind controlled.

Yet when Sam brings it up to General Ross, he’s like “Mind control are u nuts” Acting like mind control isn’t a thing at all, even though Bucky was mind controlled. Also, his right hand woman is an ex-Black Widow and she can’t tell the signs of someone being brainwashed how?

But that’s not the egregious part no no, it’s that not too long later in the film the news goes on and essentially says Isaiah Bradley still is facing the death penalty. This film is acting like this is a ticking time bomb, that answers need to be unveiled.

That things have not been solved yet, even though they have already figured out Bradley got mind-controlled! This is the type of political writing that’s made for dumb dumb idiots. Ur not supposed to stop and think about it, otherwise if u do then everything just falls apart, unfortunately.

Also, Ross’s daughter doesn’t talk to him and he misses her, what’s the Leader plans? Will Captain America stop him? Where does this all lead to? Oh, also Giancarlo Esposito is in this film.

No, he’s not important, he plays an arms man who is hired by someone (take a guess who), what a waste of a talented actor.

Anyway time to get the rating out of the way so we can spoil the 3rd act, overall if u can’t tell it’s not bad nor is it great. It’s Mediocrity Bland, it’s fun but if u want a story that has some form of depth then this ain’t it pal.

The issue is even though this film is very political, it seems to be very afraid of being political so it doesn’t offend people, so they play it very safe.

This plot is the most safest story they’ve made since late, this gets me worried for the next 2 films including Doomsday.

Also, the movie plot has way too many similarities to Winter Soldier.

In Winter Soldier, Captain America feels his mission he is hired to do isn’t right and someone is beind this.

In Brave New World, Captain America feels his mission he is hired to do isn’t right and someone is behind this.

In Civil War, Bucky gets brainwashed again and is interrogated by Steve after saving Bucky. About who did this and he needs more then a idk.

In Brave New World, Captain America integrates Isiah Bradley in jail and he meeds more then a idk.

In Winter Soldier, Steve and Natasha drive out remotely to uncover a secret fortress.

In Brave New World, Sam and New Falcon drive our remotely to uncover a secret fortress.

In Winter Soldier, while Nick Fury is riding. All of a sudden the Winter Soldier shows up ans blows up his car.

In Brave New World, while Sam is driving, all of a sudden Esposito’s character comes out of nowhere and blows up his cat.

In Winter Soldier, Steve and Natasha locate a secret bunker under the fortress where they discover a age-old enemy has been behind things.

In Brave New World, Sam and New Falcon locate a sweet bunker under the fortress where they discover a age-old enemy has been behind things.

Hmmmmmm, guess u can say the scriptwriter’s names were “Control” and “V”.

So overall I’ll give Captain America Brave New World a solid 4.5/10, warning spoilers ahead y’all been warned.
_____________________________________________

So time to spoil the 3rd act, so after Tim Blake’s plan to get Ross to Hulk out while on a military ship on the ocean near Celestial Island, why’s he there? To get the adamantium for himself.

Because Japan doesn’t want to uphold their treaty since they believe America is screwing them over, Captain America helps calm down the attack when Tim’s mind controls 2 spoilers to attack Japan.

Here’s a thought, why didn’t Ross just take the headphones off his ears?

But this leads to New Falcon getting shot out of the air and needing to be hospitalized, while he’s being worked on and Sam is watching. Bucky comes in the room and gives him a pep talk, also Bucky is gonna be the soon-to-be senator.

Yep went from assassin to congressman, that’s good. Congressman Barnes, I can’t wait for the Thunderbolts to see more of him. Anyways so Ross goes on stage at DC to address the concerns and answer questions.

Now since Captain America prevented Tim’s plan from working, he foes for plan B which is to turn himself in. Oh goodie, such a great plan. Also, Sam Wilson found out Ross had been taking pills that Tim made for him.

It’s to help his heart issues which could kill him. But he wants to know what’s inside those pills. Tim reveals that he pulled Gama-Radiation into those pills, Dunn dunn dunn!

He said he wanted the world to see Ross as a monster and he meant it, so the military came and arrested Tim at the councilman building that is at.

BTW keep in mind folks this guy whose shtick this dill is he knows probabilities, he literally said “The probability of u turning around and giving up was an77%” Dude u gave yourself up minutes after that, what do u mean Cap had a 77% off losing?

U need to get better at probabilities because so far u ain’t that good at it, and it’s the only thing ur supposedly good at!

Or my favorite, he said “There was an 87% u would quit when ur friend got injured” dude where are u coming up with these bogus probabilities?

Side note this film is kinda lazily put together, once u the audience starts piecing the plot together all a sudden Leader comes and explains his motivation. Right yes I got that I’ve already figured that out.

But then Esposito’s character comes in and explains Leaders motivation, yes we got that already we’re not stupid.

Also, the character of the Leader is supposed to be a genius, but the character is only a genius as much as the scriptwriters are. And clearly they are not.

It’s the same issue with the Ahsoka show where the scriptwriters took the character of Thrawn, who’s a tactician genius and turned him into a tactician idiot.

Because the scriptwriters are running on ineptitude, idk where Disney keeps getting these scriptwriters from, but they need to stop hiring these idiots.

Sam goes to save Ross, right as Tim gets arrested it goes up on the news, revealing Ross a while back promised him a pardon but didn’t do it.

He then has a recording of his voice go on speaker and starts to say u ruined my life, u promised me a pardon but refused to give it to me. So now I’m gonna expose to everyone who u are.

Ross gets angry, and his men start to pull him away, which causes him to start turning into Red Hulk. We see one of his fingers bent sideways, yikes.

Sam Wilson comes and fights Red Hulk, this whole fight scene involves them destroying half the white house, and some of the cherry blossom trees in a park. The cherry blossoms mean something to Ross because he and his daughter both love those flowers.

Sam lures Red Hulk over there to see if he can calm him down, does it work? Of course not. Anyways Sam uses his Wakanda suit with Black Panther tech inside to absorb the Hulk punches and use a blast to attack Red Hulk with.

Once his wings get torn off, Falcon does get some damage to Red Hulk by scratching him, turns out Red Hulk’s weakness is sharp objects. Cap has one last plan up his sleeve, to talk to Ross.

Yeah quick question, when did vibranium become plastic?

He tells him I know u can kill me but u don’t want to, u want to prove to ur daughter ur a better person and I believe u r. He then calms down, a cherry blossom peddle falls into his hand, and the peddle turns to ash. And Red Hulk turns back into Harrison Ford.

Somehow his pants still fit on him. Don’t ask me how, he’s then taken away by a medical team. Sam Wilson goes to visit Isaiah Bradley as he’s getting released from prison. He said I told u I would save u.

Then Sam goes to pay a visit to Ross at The Raft, which is the MCUs version of Alcatraz, it’s where Ross put team Captain America in after they fought Iron Man in Captain America Civil War.

Now Ross is a prisoner, he said he resigned and took his punishment because he needs America to move on and clearly ain’t ready. Sam says it looks like u have a visitor.

Then his daughter Betty Ross comes in and they decide to talk a bit, Ross looks happy and gives Sam a happy look.

What bugs me a bit is Sam calls Ross a good person, so uh are we gonna forget that due to him not admitting he’s been working with Tim Blake to the Japanese senator, he almost started a war between them.

Are we gonna forget his past F ups like splitting the Avengers? Or ruining Banner? Arresting Tim Blake and framing everything onto him? Ok sure he’s a good man now I guess, because he turned himself in after he attacked the white house destroying it.

Oh yes, good man, jeepers.

Anyway film ends with Cap visiting the new Falcon in the hospital, he tells him he’s a part of the Avengers now.

And that it’s time to rebuild it because Ross brought up a good point it’s time to rebuild the Avengers, right so now we’re talking about rebuilding the Avengers? When we’re 2 movies away from the Avengers film coming out!?

Now we’re talking about that? Jeepers this is all rushed, also Falcon says can u put Wakanda on speed dial to ask them to get me a vibranium outfit, which Sam says that’s the most New Jersey thing I heard u say.

U want to speed-dial the Wakandians for vibranium? Hahahahahah I see his point, oh also there’s only one post-credits scene and it’s at the end of the credits.

Don’t worry this end credits scene is extremely pointless, it’s of Sam paying The Leader a visit in The Raft.

The end credits amount to Leader saying I’ve seen all the outcomes and u think ur the only heroes trying to protect this earth? Wait until u fight them.

Ohhh u got to be freaking kidding me, Kevin if u have no post credit scene to do that’s fine, If u have nothing of important to set up then u don’t need to put a post credit scene.

This is just lazy, so ur telling me Leader just now all a sudden knows about the Multiverse? How!? And better yet why!? Oh right because the script says so that’s why.

Furthermore this is the most laziest foreshadowing to avengers Doomsday and secret wars. But hey Kevin u do u I guess, but if this gonna be the level of trying ur gonna do now on for the MCU then I wanna get off this train.

Seriously how the hell did he know that? His entire plot was grounded and based on politics “I have an evil plan to ruin the president’s reputation and image, but also I’ve somehow figured out the Multiverse” FUCK YOU! Sorry sorry, I lost my temper there. But this is legit just a dumb/lazy end credits scene.

Again if this is the type of writing these scriptwriters are coming up with and these writing is the things these directors are green lightning, then this gets me worried for the future of the MCU, heck I’m already worried about Doomsday because there’s no build-up to Doom.

Also as for the adamantium, what do we know of it thanks to this film? Uhhh idk it’s a metal, it’s definitely just there.

Also, what did the ex-black widow amount to in this film? Absolutely nothing, like there was no purpose to her being in this film. She was here, smugged a bit and fought once, that’s it.

Also, I hope u enjoy this Picth Meeting video of this film. They really described this film up perfectly.

Anyways the end, hope y’all enjoy this review. Still more to come see u then.
