World War Z: The Walking Dead DLC (2026)

A Walking Dead game that somehow works… and it’s not even a Walking Dead game

Yes ive been looking forward to this ever since it’s been announced, and now its finally here, and what are my thoughts on thie bizarre collab is never expected to happen? Well glad y’all asked.

📉 Awful Promotion / Marketing Breakdown 🧠

So let’s just get this out of the way, because this marketing was terrible.

They announced this DLC back on December 18th, 2025. Cool. Fine. Then they went on a three-week vacation hiatus, which I’m not even mad about. Companies deserve vacations.

But when they came back?

That’s where the problems started.

They returned on January 12th… and it took them NINE DAYS to announce the release date.

Nine.

Days.

In January.

For a DLC coming out at the end of January.

January 12th: three images of the prison — “DLC coming soon.”
Why are you saying “coming soon” in January when you already said January?

January 13th: three more prison images — “DLC coming this January.”
So… what was the point of yesterday’s post?

Then it turned into:

Rick with his gun

Daryl with his crossbow

Michonne with her katana

Negan with his bat


Then we got:

The “Don’t Open, Dead Inside” image (even though you can’t even go to that area in the game)

Weapon images

Gameplay clips

Character gameplay intros

More gameplay intros

Even more gameplay intros


It honestly felt like they were stalling for time.

And then on January 21st, at 2pm, after posting literally every day, they finally said:

> The DLC releases January 29th.



At that point, just say February.

Oh — and they also never told us:

How much the DLC costs

If the characters are playable on other maps


We only got those answers in Discord.

Someone asked the price. A dev replied: $10 (which is actually cheap for a collab).
Someone asked if the characters work on other chapters. The dev replied: yes.

Why was this not in the marketing?

And when I asked a dev how the gameplay would feel compared to WWZ’s fast horde gameplay?

Their response was:

> “You’ll have to load in tomorrow. Where’s the fun in spoiling everything?”



Oh, you fuckers — you already spoiled the entire DLC in 29 posts. Y’all can’t even answer the basic question? Eh whatever.

🧍 Character Rundown 🧟‍♂️

Rick (Andrew Lincoln reprised his role)

Daryl (Norman Reedus reprised his role)

Michonne

Negan

I did not play as all four characters.

I just went for Negan.

So I’m going to give y’all an example by telling y’all what Negan’s lines are in this game.
The other characters? You can buy the game and see for yourself. I mean, where’s the fun in spoiling everything?

Negan in this game is completely unhinged. He is basically Deadpool.

When he gets pinned:

“At least u can buy me dinner first”


When blowing open loot doors:

“Little pig goes boom!”


When grabbing a big gun:

“Am I compensating for something?”


When opening a crate:

“Im being treated really well”


Randomly during gameplay:

“Hot diggiddy dog, this place is amazing”


When another player saves him:

“U r alright”


When saved from being pinned:

“Haven’t u heard of personal space? This is what happens when u touch me!”

Or

“Im not into this 4 play”


During fights:

“Ive faught more with less”


When healing or refilling ammo:

“Someone protect me, my fans are waiting for me out there”

“Protect yourselves, im refilling my ammo”


Other lines include:

“Im very turned on right now”

“Id kiss u right now but im bleeding”

“Who’s the man? Oh right im the man”

When saving a teammate:

“I’m not gonna carry you, I told you not to play hero”


None of this should work.
This is not what Negan ever says. In fact this is Deadpool heavy coded right here.

But at the same time… this is something Negan would definitely say.

🎭 Chapter Intro Dialogue (Voiced by Negan)

When you scroll over the Walking Dead chapter, there’s a description that pops up — and Negan voices it.

> “Well, well, well… look at this motley crew: Rick the noble law-man, Daryl the greasy haircut with a crossbow, Michonne with her ninja routine, and me: Negan, the man with the bat, the brains, and the balls to keep these people alive. Do I wanna be here? Hell no. I’d rather grab popcorn and watch ’em trip over their egos. But instead, I’m dragging their sorry asses across the finish line, because I just can’t resist being the hero they’ll never admit they need.”



This sets the tone perfectly.
Negan frames himself as the reluctant hero carrying the group, and yeah — it’s unhinged, self-aware, and very Deadpool-like.

🎮 Pacing / Episode Flow 🧟‍♂️

This DLC follows the same World War Z chapter formula.

There’s a vague story, but you don’t really go for the story.
You go for shooting zombies.

There are three levels:

The hospital Rick woke up in

Alexandria, completely collapsed and overrun

The prison


Order doesn’t really matter — the locations are the draw.

And honestly? I’m loving the gameplay.

⚙️ Gameplay Changes & Mechanics (Replacing Spoilers)

The zombies in this chapter are slow — and that’s cool, because this is actually World War Z book-accurate zombies.

But…

They also:

Pin you to the floor

Every zombie can pin you

Not slap you like base WWZ

Pin you constantly


I’m talking hundreds of times per match.

And on top of that, they feel like bullet sponges. I swear their health is increased.

So now you have:

Slow zombies

That take longer to kill

That survive long enough to reach you

That pin you nonstop


Special infected? Still run.
Don’t ask.

There’s also a new Spiker Walker, exclusive to this chapter.
If you get near it, you start bleeding, and you have to stop the bleeding by spraying yourself with a med.

Cool idea.

But again — stacked on top of pinning and tanky walkers, it can get frustrating.

Thanks to this dlc the game feels like a horror game, and I kid you not every time you see a giant horde of walkers coming towards you behind fences or around a corner, your gonna have the “i just shit my pants” face the entire time.

🧱 Pros ✅

I’m genuinely enjoying the gameplay

The locations are great

Hospital, Alexandria, and the prison all look fantastic

Book-accurate zombie behavior is cool in theory

Surprisingly the slow zombies fit in this game because in the WWZ book the zombies are slow, so we got book accurate zombies.

Negan is insanely fun to play

Negan works on all other WWZ maps

He’s become my go-to character

$10 for a collab is actually reasonable


Also worth noting:

New weapons:

Lucille (heavy melee)

Michonne’s katana


Weapon skins:

Rick’s revolver (skin)

Daryl’s crossbow (skin)

A new special infected, the spiked walker, only appears in the walking dead chapter while the other world war z special infected can appear in the walking dead chapter. Yeah how fair is that? Also be careful of them if u touch them you will stsrt to bleed and have to patch urself up, yes its a new mechanic.

The levels feel and look slightly bigger then the narrow maps in the previous chapters, now you have a bit more to explore around and change defenses against the undead, either from high or low (wish the base WWZ game had this).

Terrible marketing

Nine days to announce a release date

“Coming soon” in January

Important info hidden in Discord

Dev dodging real gameplay questions

Universal pinning is exhausting

Walkers feel like bullet sponges

Special infected logic makes no sense


And the edit styles are lazy:

Negan: sunglasses

Daryl: sunglasses 🤨

Rick: his hat (this one’s good)

Michonne: a white tank top

Also good luck trying to get past the Alexandria map, it is hard. Ive tried it 2wice and failed both times, yeah the map goes on too long and the walkers are tough.

The voices of negan and Michonne sound slightly off, because they aren’t voiced by their actors.


That’s it.

🧠 Final Thoughts 💭

I think we can all agree this is somehow the second best Walking Dead game out there — and it’s not even a Walking Dead game.

The only great ones we’ve had are:

Telltale

No Man’s Land

And now this WWZ DLC


That’s:

1 game

1 phone app

And a DLC


That’s a sad track record.

Despite the marketing mess and gameplay frustrations, I’m still having fun.
And the fact that I keep choosing Negan on other maps says a lot.

If I had to rank the dlc Walking Dead maps id rank them by

Prison

Hospital

Then Alexandria

Because I despise that level so much, like theres just so much disdain I have for it, it’s nor a fundamentally broken map but its poorly executed in gameplay, it doesn’t help with the lack of resources.

Also on a bright side at least now y’all don’t need to go to Dave and Busters to play the Walking Dead game to get ur dopamine of playing in the prison and playing a Walking Dead game, because now you can sit at home and play a Walking Dead game and shoot zombies at the prison at home for the low price of 10 dollars.

Messy. Frustrating. Unhinged.
But somehow… it works.

Like I said its one the few best Walking Dead games and its not even a Walking Dead game, but plz go buy this dlc. If you already love the WWZ game I think you will like this dlc.

If this game came out during the golden age of Walking Dead, this would hit harder. Also plz AMC let this IP die.

So if y’all want a really good walking dead game outside of Telltale the walking dead? Then this right here is yours best bet.
