Marvel Rivals/Marvel Zombies (2024-2025)

🎮 Marvel Rivals (2024)

“Heroes, Villains, and Lag: A Comic Book Shooter That Actually Works”

🎬 Let’s start by showing y’all the trailers, shall we?

📖 Non-Spoiler Plot Overview

Okay, so Marvel Rivals isn’t about “plot” the way Doctor Sleep or IT is. This is a hero shooter — think Overwatch, but Marvel-ified, and somehow less cursed. It’s 6v6 chaos with iconic characters smashing each other in destructible comic-book styled maps. You pick your team, you fight for objectives, and the game’s excuse for why you’re doing it is “the multiverse is broken.” And honestly? That’s all you need.

🦸 Character Rundown

At launch, we had 33 heroes and villains, and by 2025, that number shot up past 40. You’ve got the obvious heavy hitters:

Spider-Man swinging across maps.

Iron Man raining down missiles.

Doctor Strange warping space like he’s late for yoga.

Venom, Magneto, Storm, Loki, Black Panther, and so many more.

Each character has unique skills, ultimates, and — the best part — Team-Up abilities when paired with specific others. Hulk and Iron Man unleash their iconic “Hulkbuster Slam.” Scarlet Witch and Vision combine chaos magic and the Mind Stone. Loki can literally backstab Thor in hilarious synergy.

And the art direction? Characters look like they stepped out of a comic panel and into your screen.

⏳ Pacing / Flow

Matches are fast, punchy, and chaotic. The destructible environments keep things fresh — blasting through walls or collapsing bridges makes every fight dynamic. It’s got that same loop Overwatch had in its prime: short bursts of objective-focused action where every character feels like they matter.

The flow is buttery smooth when the servers cooperate. Big asterisk there. Because when the servers don’t? Oh boy, you’ll feel like Spider-Man got caught in dial-up webbing.

✅ Pros

Massive roster of Marvel icons with unique playstyles.

The Team-Up system is brilliant and feels like actual fan-service that works.

Destructible environments keep maps exciting.

Art style is gorgeous — bold, colorful, and comic-book perfect.

Easy to pick up, hard to master gameplay loop.

❌ Cons

The servers. Lag spikes, rubber-banding, and disconnects can ruin matches. When the game’s smooth, it’s incredible. When it’s not? Rage-inducing.

Balance issues — some characters (cough Magneto cough) dominate certain maps.

Objective types can feel repetitive after hours of grinding.

💭 Final Thoughts

Marvel Rivals is what happens when you give Marvel to a studio that actually tries. It’s fast, it’s colorful, it’s addicting, and it makes you feel like you’re literally in a Marvel crossover comic. It’s not perfect — the servers drag it down — but the bones are so solid, this could easily be Marvel’s answer to Overwatch long-term.

⭐ Rating

9/10 — Would rage-blob again, preferably when the lag isn’t Spider-Man breakdancing across the screen.

🧟 Marvel Rivals: Marvel Zombies Mode (2025)

“Thor with lightning, Blade with swords, and a land shark with… water powers. Yes, this rules.”

🎬 Let’s start by showing y’all the trailers, shall we?

I know what y’all our thinking,  oh goody another zombie game or mode. But hear me out, let’s see if this is good or not.

📖 Non-Spoiler Overview

This is it. Marvel said: “You like mowing down zombies, right? You like superheroes, right? Cool. Put them together and boom: catharsis.”

The premise? Scarlet Witch loses Vision, breaks down, and becomes the Queen of the Dead, raising zombie armies across New York. Namor gets infected too (Zombie Namor is peak nightmare fuel). Khonshu (Moon Knight’s moon god pal) decides enough is enough, and blesses a squad of heroes to stop the undead.

Your squad? Thor, Blade, Punisher, Magik, and Jeff the Land Shark. Yes, the shark is real. Yes, he shoots water like a living firehose. Don’t question it.

🦸 Character Rundown

Thor – Lightning spam galore. The hammer’s great for crowd control.

Blade – Dual-wielding chaos, fast melee DPS. Basically Marvel’s zombie exterminator.

Punisher – Guns, grenades, rage. Imagine John Wick, but angrier.

Magik – Portals, dark energy, and sword strikes. Flashy and technical.

Jeff the Land Shark – A shark the size of a corgi who spits water like a hydrant. 10/10 mascot energy.

It’s a weird lineup, but once you’re smashing zombies with Thor while Jeff waddles in circles spraying undead with water? Yeah, it just works.

⏳ Pacing / Flow

This is horde mode Marvel-style. Waves of zombies swarm you, punctuated by boss fights — Zombie Namor halfway through, Scarlet Witch at the end.

Each run has rogue-lite mechanics: you earn “Moon Power” from kills and use it to unlock upgrades between rounds. Want Thor to chain lightning between 20 zombies? Done. Want Blade to lifesteal like crazy? Easy. Builds matter, especially at higher difficulties.

The flow ramps up beautifully. Starts off easy-peasy, then by Nightmare difficulty, it’s full-on chaos.

✅ Pros

Insanely fun power fantasy — mowing down zombies as superheroes never gets old.

Rogue-lite upgrades keep each run fresh.

Atmosphere is spot-on: red skies, ruined New York, zombie hordes everywhere.

Boss fights are creative — Namor summoning squid monsters, Wanda warping reality.

Perfect Halloween vibe.

❌ Cons

Only five heroes?! Really, NetEase? You’ve got 40+ characters and gave us five.

Again, servers. PvE shouldn’t lag this badly, but sometimes it does.

High-end difficulty feels more like stat-checks than strategy (Nightmare Wanda can one-shot you).

The game mode is limited. It ends on november fourteenth. So if you want to play it, you better get to it. I’m bummed out. This is a temporary game mode. Because i’m enjoying it.

💭 Final Thoughts

Marvel Zombies mode is short-term candy, but oh man, what sweet candy it is. It’s goofy, it’s cathartic, and it’s a love letter to Marvel fans who ever said, “what if Blade fought alongside Thor during a zombie apocalypse?”

Limited time event or not, this deserves to come back every year. Hell, make it permanent. Give me Spider-Man, Hulk, Deadpool in here, and I’ll live here forever.

⭐ Rating

9/10 — Thor lightning-bolted zombies while Jeff the Shark spit water on them. That sentence alone deserves a 9.
