Ethan is βwelcomed to the familyβ by Jack Baker, who becomes the unstoppable slasher-style villain of the first act. Jack stalks you relentlessly through the Baker house, surviving bullets, fire, and even being chainsawed in half. Every encounter with him pushes that Texas Chainsaw Massacre vibe β youβre the intruder in the cannibal familyβs playground.
Marguerite Baker takes over in the next act, warping into a grotesque, insect-infested creature. Her hive powers are pure body horror: swarms of bugs, dripping hives, and an extended boss fight where she mutates into something barely human.
Lucas Baker, the sadistic son, breaks the pacing in the best possible way. Instead of chasing, he toys with Ethan through Saw-like traps and puzzle rooms. Explosive corpses, tripwires, and deadly βparty gamesβ make his section psychologically terrifying rather than physically.
Meanwhile, Zoe Baker, the only sane family member, contacts Ethan by phone, guiding him and giving the illusion of an ally.
Evelineβs Truth
The familyβs torment comes from Eveline, a bioweapon disguised as a little girl. Her power is mind control, manipulating those around her until they worship or obey her β then mutating them into grotesque mold creatures. That βsweet old ladyβ in the wheelchair who you see haunting the house? Sheβs Eveline, rapidly aging due to her unstable design.
Mia is revealed to have been a caretaker/handler for Eveline, hiding this from Ethan. Her guilt and infection cause her violent outbursts, adding a tragic layer to their marriage.
The Ship Section
The narrative shifts when Ethan gets captured and you play as Mia aboard a wrecked tanker β the origin point of Evelineβs escape. This explains how the Bakers were infected and how Eveline ended up in their home. Itβs slower than the house segments, but it ties the story together.
The Final Act
Ethan discovers that Evelineβs infection is spreading beyond control. Armed with the βE-Necrotoxin,β he confronts her in the salt mines, battling hallucinations and grotesque enemies as Eveline unleashes her power. The finale escalates into a colossal boss fight as Eveline mutates into a towering mold monstrosity, all while screaming like a child having a tantrum.
Just when Ethan looks doomed, Chris Redfield arrives via helicopter, dropping him the anti-bioweapon gun that allows Ethan to finally destroy Eveline. Chris extracts Ethan and Mia (if you chose to save her), tying the game back into the broader Resident Evil universe while setting up Resident Evil Village.
