Man of Medan: Let’s start by showing y’all the trailers shall we?

So where do I start? Just like Until Dawn, this game is an interactive Drama, this type of game isn’t meant for everyone. Some people prefer their games to be more interactive, 9 times out of 10 in these interactive Drama games u will be watching fully animated cutscenes like ur watching a film.

Or if u aren’t watching cutscenes ur gonna be doing quick time events, these quick time events are hard, if u even fail one. It can lead ur characters to their death and unlike other games.

There’s no rewind button or game over and it reloads u back in, if ur character dies, the game just continues. Again just like a movie.

So now i wanna mention that this game is based on an urban legend, of a boat that may or may have not existed…the ship is called the SS Ourang Medan, if some of y’all don’t know the story of the SS Ourang Medan then let me enlighten u…..

So one of the many reasons why this ship is unknown if it existed or not, is because there are no documented files on the ship…no images, and the multiple stories differ from each other….but there’s one version of the story that sticks out to me so I’ll mention it here…

“In 1952, a merchant ship was traveling the sea, when all of a sudden they got an SOS message that reads out  “We float. All officers, including the captain, dead in the chartroom and on the bridge. Probably the whole of crew is dead… I die.” yes the crewmen typed out “I Die” ok if I wasn’t skeptical before, I’m sure as hell am skeptical now …who writes out on an SOS machine “I Die” while dying? The hell?

Anyways so the ship that gets the SOS tried reaching out to the ship but they get no response.

Eventually, this abandoned ship comes up to them, the ship is called the SS Ourang Medan….the men try using their speakers to get contact from the men on the Ourang Medan…to see if they’re alright, but no response….

So the captain has his men go aboard the ship, as soon as they step foot on the ship they witness the most disturbed scenery… the entire crew of the ship dead. With shocked expressions on their faces, while in positions as if they were fending off something…

Most of the bodies are Contorted into positions, heck even the dogs on board are dead in a snarling attack position….so the men accidentally touch one of the corpses, and it starts decaying in front of their eyes…now they’re all in shock…the captain has them come back on board and to tie the ship to their’s so they can toe it back to shore so they can have experts study the ship…to fully understand what the hell happened to this ship.

But as they tie the rope on the boat and start to set sale the unthinkable happens, the ship sets on fire and then explodes…the ship flies into the air then crashes into the water sinking…wow talk about continent….do y’all see why this story to this day is hard to tell if it was real or fake? I lean more towards this story was fake….how about y’all?

Anyway let’s get into the rating, overall I’d say this game is a very mid game…besides its premise that was good everything else was bad, the writing ranged from bad to cringe….the villains were one-dimensional generic villains, also the plot felt kinda messy….

So overall this game gets a solid 3/10…warning  spoilers ahead y’all been warned.

So the rundown of the plot of this game is after a 10-minute opening showing us what happened on the SS Ourang Medan…yeah the game gives that mystery away in the beginning, spoiler alert everything the characters see on the ship isn’t supernatural. Not it’s hallucinations caused by a bolt of lightning hitting one of the crates which was carrying some kinda toxic powder that’s labeled as gold…

So basically everyone on the ship dies they hallucinated something creepy and then killed off one another….so Anyway after u wake up as one of the soldiers in the medic room after he got knocked out by his friend after the 2 of them were drunk….

This leads to one of the most cringiest acting I think I’ve seen, the military leader sees them punches the guy for fighting with his friend and the leader says in….my…..medical….opinion….these….2….are….drunk….off….their….ass…..take this one….to the…..medical room…and take….this guy…to the….holding cell….

I…..am…..acting…..this……is…..acting, so anyways u save the guy from the cell, u both make your way through the ship seeing everyone dead on the floor….u go through jumpscares which this game has too many, then the character dies as soon as he opens a wardrobe which has this kid in it then the kids face rots to a skeleton…which jump scares him….

Which causes him to have a heart attack and die….huh? Yeah, I’m confused as well…

Anyway, the main story starts when our 5 bland characters, in fact so bland I forgot their names and I won’t be looking up their names…I just want to call them mince meat numbers 1 through 5.

Oh did I forget to mention the game has this curator who’s telling this story to the audience in a library room? Because they’re is….also he barges into the room with the most dramatic music that’s out of place….” death will u spare me another year” Like I said dramatic and doesn’t fit…

So he tells the players ur about to go on a journey and that you also u have a hand in how the story ends…on who u let die or save….yada yada, to me acknowledging this is a game really breaks the immersion for me…

So back to our 5 dead meat people….so these 5 people dead meat number 1 who’s a female is going on a boat with dead meat number 2 who is someone who’s planning on proposing to her…

Dead Meat Humber 3 is her brother who’s just a frat bro basically who likes getting drunk, and Dead Meat Humber 4 is the soon-to-be husband’s geeky brother, dead meat number 5 is a female who’s the captain of the boat…

They hire her to drive them to this plane shipwreck that’s not been discovered so they can get some pics of it….anyways, u get there, the girl and the boyfriend put on scuba gear, go down to the wreckage….take some pictures…they find a skeleton jump scare…I mean skeleton in the cockpit….

They do pick up an object that leads to the entire front collapsing…even though their captain said don’t touch anything…wow glad to see they are good listeners…

So while they’re down there this small ship comes by very fast…smacking into their boat, the small boat filled with 3 to 4 men says ur gonna pay for the damage…which the drunken brother says oh sure, then pulls our money and proceeds to tear them into pieces tossing them into the ocean…saying u drive a hard bargain how about more money….

Dude, why did u do that? Anyway eventually down in the ocean the soon-to-be husband proposes to the soon-to-be wife…u both make your way up the boat after seeing an explosion. Turns out it’s just the drunken brother cooking on the grill and accidentally putting too much fuel in it….

So that night while they are all asleep the men who bumped into ur boat earlier come on board your ship. Ties all of them up…. take over the ship, notices a map they had set to a location where this gold is located at….that’s what the map says that they found in the plane wreck….no one knows what this gold is…which is important for later….

Oh keep this in mind the soon-to-be husband’s brother is hiding under the bed…keep that in mind its important later, anyways the bad guys eventually steer the boat towards the gold…in this massive thunderstorm that’s started…..

Anyways then y’all come in view of this ship just floating on the ocean, u then ram into the side of it…not by purpose keep in mind, anyways this lifeboat hanging on the side of the boat swings towards y’all, showing there’s a skeleton in the lifeboat….oh boy another jumpscare…..

So now this entire section of the game I’ll give a brief rundown of because there are branched paths, and I’ll not be mentioning all of them…

So everyone gets forced onto the boat by the pirates, without putting their shoes on…..I think I just found the scariest thing here guys, them risking getting tetanus…

BTW the brother sneaks in board later…..so the pirates lock our main characters in a room while they go find the gold, y’all figure out a way to get out….there’s a hatch in the wall to escape from….

So y’all eventually split up, unfortunately, anyways the brother comes on board, eventually, and sneaks around……so our main group starts finding out info about the ship via picking up newsletters or notes around on the ship…..they also find skeletons on the ship….something bad has happened….

Oh also did I forget to mention there’s something or someone on board haunting them…spoiler alert they are just hallucinating, yeah like I said they really shouldn’t have given that away within the first 10 minutes of the game…it takes away from the suspense….

Anyway let’s just mention the deaths u can cause in this entire segment then we can be done..

Basically u can lead to all of them dying basically (except for the bad guys they will always die….they don’t have an option to survive)

I tried to keep all 5 of our main characters alive, I ended up with 3 people left by the end of the game….yeah I accidentally got killed..

The wife’s brother and the captain….trust me when I say this it’s hard to determine which path will lead u to allowing all 5 to survive, the game gives u this wheel of choices to pick from when ur…

Yeah that’s about it really, so yeah try keeping all 5 characters alive, anyways our gang finds out via the notes that the boat is called the SS Ourang Medan.

If y’all are curious how the version of the ending I ended up getting went….well the wife and soon-to-be husband and his brother make it off the boat and back onto there’s, then drive away….again I wish I could have saved all 5 of them, I accidentally killed off the rich brother, the female captain…..

If ur wondering how they died? Well, the captain gets smacked in the head with a hammer by the soon-to-be husband’s brother who’s hallucinations thinking he is seeing a dead person coming after him…

The other brother well he accidentally slipped off a railing and fell into a pipe, yikes.

BTW this game has no save slots so if u make a mistake u can’t just go back to the main menu and retry it….no u just have to keep proceeding and then replay the game again, although I don’t know why u would wanna do that…

Oh and don’t worry the pirates do die, they don’t survive…….if anyone cared, so anyways the game ends with the navy coming aboard because our team called an emergency earlier on the radio, they don’t see anyone but one person aboard…turns out one of the pirates survived, and he’s hallucinating.

So he runs up to them with an axe, and that’s how the game ends….also there’s an alternate ending, If u decide to tell the Navy over the radio what u know of the cargo that ship was carrying….and u stay on board the ship, the navy comes and arrest y’all or gun y’all down….as a cover-up….

Oh something shady is afoot, so the game ends with our librarian guy telling us (we’ll telling me, because I got 2 out of 5 of the main characters killed), thr story is done. U could have done better but still….till next time.

Then he leaves and we cut to credits, where they decide to play a trailer for the next game they would release next….I forget the title of it because I’ve nor played the other 3 games yet, yes 3 games….this game I reviewed is the start of a horror anthology series….

Maybe one day I’ll play the other 3 games, until then….here’s this reveiw, anyways hope y’all enjoyed this review I had a blast reviewing it. Here’s a tease for the next review I’m working on.
