Indiana Jones and The Emperor’s Tomb: Ok firstly let’s start by showing y’all the trailer shall we?
Yeah if y’all can’t tell this is a classic game, a classic game I got around to playing recently….I love this game, i played it on my Xbox series X…..today we’ll be talking about it….
But first, let’s get the rating out of the way…..overall I’d say this game is a very flawed masterpiece of a game…I enjoyed playing this game in parts but in other parts, this game can go F***k it’s self….
My overarching problem with this game is the lack of save and auto-save, the game only autosaves st specific segment of a round, as in when u finish a specific round and head into a new location and the loading screen pops up saying loading…that’s when the game saves…
If u die any time before that u have to restart that entire segment again, don’t worry u will be dying too often, due to enemies, and the controls being janky as all hell…..but what doesn’t help is using ur whip u will barely do any damage to an enemy using it…ur better off with a gun, that’s if u find ammo or grab a gun off the enemy Nazis….
Now remember how I said the controls are janky? Well, I meant it….for example on the Xbox for some reason the B button in this game is the jump button and the A button is for attack…..no idk why either when it’s always the A button is for jump…..like I said u will find yourself dying because u will more often than not forget how to jump….
Also when u try aiming a gun at an enemy the controls are wonky as all hell, the camera just janks too hard when u aim left and right, yeah good luck trying aiming in this game….u would have a better chance trying to ask a girl out to the prom then trying to aim in this game…
So overall I’ll give Indiana Jones and The Emperor’s Tomb a solid 6.8/10….I still highly recommend this game to anyone who loves Indiana Jones and archeology-type games…. too bad it’s not available anymore to buy off of Xbox, it’s been D-Listed, glad I bought it when I had the chance….
So now warning ⚠️ massive spoilers ahead (also I won’t be spending too long on the story, I’ll tell the story of the game but that’s about it) so if u don’t want any spoilers…now ur chance to leave…
Let’s get into the review, shall we?
Let me firstly get this statement out of the way, thus game takes place in the Indiana Jones universe before Indiana Jones 2….also Indiana Jones 2 is a prequel before Raiders of The Lost Ark….so this game is a prequel to a prequel….huh that’s interesting…
So this game opens up with u playing as Indiana Jones going through a jungle, u end up finding a secret chamber in the mountains….while getting past enemies….u as Indy then find a Shrine guarded by a giant albino alligator in the water….u have to open up the Shrine by pulling levers that are around there….
Anyways in the Shrine is an amulet. So then a bad guy enters the room…let’s call him Mr. Generic, so Mr. Generic comes and tries to take the amulet away….Indy tosses Mr. Generic into the water then the alligator eats him up….
So the plot officially kicks in when one day this Chinese ambassador along with his female assistant comes walking into Indiana Jones College after one of his lectures that day….
Indy only gets interested in what they have to say as soon as he starts ogling the female assistant….ok yeah some stuff didn’t age well that’s for sure….anyways the ambassador asks Doctor Jones if he can go on a quest for him to retrieve an ancient medallion that will unlock the Tomb of the Emperor…..Indy agrees….
He heads out to a castle to start his investigations there….yeah I really both love and hate this part of the game…I love it because it reminds me of Indiana Jones 3 but on the other hand, I died way too much because I kept falling off the map at the parts u have to jump on a chain to swing across onto another ledge, on the side of the towers above the ground in the castle!
The second location Indy goes to…..well I say goes to but he gets captured by the enemies at the castle, and after them reawakening a Frankenstein monster for Indiana Jones to fight….wait sorry what? Frankenstein monster? Yeah it’s gonna be one of those over-the-top Indiana Jones stories isn’t it?
So anyways the enemies kidnap Indy, man, and after spending so many hours doing puzzles and sneaking past baddies and taking out baddies…he now gets captured, then he so happens to wake up in a different location out in like a Persian-type town…..oh and guess who has him kidnapped and tied In a tower….who’s he Rapunzel? Rapunzel, Rapunzel let down ur beautiful fedora……lololo
Ok times up for guessing who the villains are, it’s the Nazis…..yayyyyyyyy, what’s this the umpteenth time now Indiana Jones has faced against Nazis? And with the newest game coming out titled Indiana Jones and The Great Circle….he will once again be facing against get this Nazis….yayyyyyyy, again what’s this the umpteenth time? This will now make it like the 6th time he’s faced against Nazis…..
So anyways that female assistant comes and saves Indy, she’s not decked out in ninja clothing….so they both team up, Indy sneaks past men and kills them….they both work together to break into a specific building where they sneak past more Nazis…kill more Nazis….
Indiana Jones ends up finding a crane which he uses to grab a statue of a head to smash it into a wall so he can crawl through…instead, the Nazis show up and they start fighting and Indy ends up falling with the giant chain and stage head into a pit beneath them…
Which leads him into an indoor river…..btw This entire segment became tedious, u had to do is progress forward into another room with water covering up structures…..then u had to proceed to find 3 crystals….1 which were located behind a wall blow up underneath the water….
Another one is located on the other side of the room and how do u get across? Parkour baby!! Then u have to jump across…..the third one is located in a small room located upward in the room…u have to climb pillars and sides of walls to get up there….
So after getting all 3 crystals, it opens a door, yall progress through it…which leads to a room with a door u open up, which leads u to ur next puzzle on the location of the medallion….which is located elsewhere….so Indy and the girl head to the location before the Nazis do…..unfortunately, the location they’re going to is where a Nazi base is…uhh ohh..
I hate this entire scene, basically, u have to sneak into the base, and kill Nazis some tougher than others…specifically, some of them have a flamethrower….oh boy, again wonky aiming while shooting all while a guy with a flamethrower is attacking u…..kill me now…
Also I forgot to mention that Indiana Jones fights a kraken in this game, yes u heard that right….indy faces off against the kraken, u know the giant mythological sea octopus creature that’s bigger then a size of a ship? Yeah that kraken….
Yeah there’s a segment where ur underwater and there’s a kraken, u have to fight it using a harpoon gun and grab explosives to put on the pillars around the kraken to blow it up so the pillars fall on the kraken……I did say this game gets odd right?
So then u make ur way to a trolley going up a mountain, and u have to go turn on switches to get it moving…u know what this means? That’s right more fighting Nazis with flamethrowers and swinging across platforms with wonky controls….yayyyyyyy…
So let’s skip to the ending, so Indy and his female pal make their way to a chamber, and they find a mystical gold Boomerang…..but the Chinese ambassador bad guy shows up…so Indy and the female pal head to the tomb, where they fight there way down to the tomb….
Anyways this is where stuff goes off the rails, so down here in the tomb, there are these half-torso skeleton ghosts, trying to attack u…also possessing statues to attack u….uh huh ghosts possessing statues, yep things have officially jumped the shark….
Anyways remember that mystical gold Boomerang? Well turns out it’s the only thing that can kill the ghosts and the possessed statues, also the mystical Boomerang helps show invisible stone traps…..
I did warn yall that this game becomes bonkers, but in all the right ways if u ask me…
So then they make it to the tomb where Indy finds the mummified body of the emperor, he then takes the medallion off the Emperor’s chest….which causes the mummified Emperor to come back to life, then he turns into spirits then turns into dust….ok then…
Then Mr. Generic Chinese ambassador shows up, he grabs the medallion, and the Emperor spirits possess him…..wonderful, so then Indy follows the possessed man down to hell….yes Indiana Jones has entered hell, we’ve officially jumped the shark with this series…but it’s weird, we’re I can’t give them a pass for adding aliens and time traveling into the Indiana Jones films…
I can somehow give them a pass for Indiana Jones going to Hell, fighting ghouls, and a Frankenstein monster in a video game….because it’s a video game, video games have one objective first and that’s to be fun and first most….
So I’m gonna give this game’s absurdity a pass, let’s move on…so eventually Indiana Jones catches up to the villain, in this place that has 3 pathways leading up to 3 cauldron-like things….
Now it’s time for the final boss fight, the generic baddie lifts in the air where a swarm of spirits are surrounding him, and then a dragon spirit comes out of nowhere to hover around him.
Uhhhhh, ok remember how I said I’m gonna give this game’s absurdity a pass? I might want to take that statement back….a Nazi villain in the underworld, with a dragon spirit surrounding him? Yeah, I think there’s a limit to how much absurdity u can just toss at this game….and this is where it crosses that line….
So anyway to defeat the boss u have to destroy the 3 cauldrons…..then the ghosts start attacking the bad guy, and the spirit dragon eats up the villain….while Indiana runs off with the unconscious girl, they escape hell…..
So the game ends with the 2 of them sitting and chatting at a table….Indiana Jones dressed up fancy in the white outfit he wore at the beginning of Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom…because remember guys this game is a prequel to that prequel…..
Just to prove it even more, that waiter guy Indy had helping him at the beginning of Temple of Doom makes a cameo in this game 2wice, he made an appearance earlier and now makes an appearance here as a waiter….
Anyway the end…..overall as stated I did love this game, the issue though I still have, is that the controls are wonky, there’s no save button so if u die u have to restart the entire portion again….also there are levels u will die a lot due to bad controls and all that which might make u rage quite….but hey I mean what y’all gonna do? I mean I still recommend the game…..hope y’all enjoyed this review…
