Spiderman Friend or Foe:

so firstly let’s start off with showing yall the trailer shall?

So this game was promoted as a tie-in game to the Sam Rami universe, I think that’s the case because of the fact Sam Rami Spiderman was the thing in this period….this is also when Spiderman 3 has just come out…God, I remember that movie

Ok this review will be on the shorter side, so let’s get into the review shall we?

So in this game Spiderman is just taking a look at the scenery when all of a sudden all of Spiderman’s villains from the films appear, sandman, Doc Oc, Green Goblin, Venom, also Harry Osborne Goblin appear and help Peter…..why the heck are all of them alive yall are probably wondering especially when about 4 of them died? Yeah, good question……

Anyway, they attack the group then these mysterious symbiote creatures come out of nowhere and teleport the villains away, then the hellicarier comes and telports Spiderman into it, where he’s introduced to White Nick Fury with hair……right so Nick Fury for most of the comics been white, but in my opinion I prefer Samuel Jackson as Nick Fury…..

Also here’s that opening scene, I gotta admit it still holds up very well….

So anyway Nick Fury sends Spiderman on a mission, the mission being that this meteor with shards has scattered to different parts of the world, and Spiderman’s deadliest enemies have been taken and mind-controlled by some whacko…..we’ll find out who that whacko is later….for now spiderman has to go on his mission…

Now it is time for me to mention that this game does become repetitive, u have 6 locations that have 3 levels each….where u have to beat up baddies, of all shapes and sizes (multiple times) then reach the final baddie, beat them up take the mind control device off them and recruit them to help u….why recruit them? IDK, why do the baddies who hate Spiderman seem willing and happy to work and help Spiderman? Don’t know, and why does Nick Fury think recruiting bad guys is a good investment? Who knows!

It’s just a game don’t think about it…..now does this mean this game is boring? Nope, I had quite fun actually….my favorite part is going to fight Venom in Transylvania, where u fight him in a church then u recruit him after…I always liked the character of Venom…I like Spiderman’s reaction when he encounters venom…..he says have we figured out why u need so many teeth?

Which venom says to eat u with…..now I will see though if I had one gripe with this game it’s that get this even though u recruit all of Spiderman villains they don’t help u fight the final boss….so what was the point?

Oh right the final boss fight, so we finally get to see who’s behind all this….its Mysterio….wow what a shocker, so anyways spiderman decides to take matters into his own hands by breaking one of the symbiote shards, giving him the symbiote suit…..so anyways final level, u go through a monastery, u make ur way up to Mysterio where it’s just another dodge, throw objects, shoot web at type enemy fight….yeah all the boss fights are like this….

But I’ll say one good thing about this fight, the wall behind him has faces that shoot lasers from their mouths at u….that’s a cool gimic….so after defeating Mysterio and defeating all the Phantoms (which I forgot to mention where the names of the symbiote creatures u were fighting in this game) u get sent back up to Nick Fury who reveals he knew spiderman was Peter Parker….

That he paid off Peter’s school debt loans…well that’s nice of him, then he sends Spiderman down….and we get a hint to a non-existent sequel where his voice machine asks what should we name this project…..and he said since the symbiote gave us to much hassle to deal with…how about Carnage, let’s call it project Carnage….. yay I so can’t wait to play as Carnage in the non-existent sequel that never happened….lolo…

So now let’s get into the positives and negatives

Positives: well firstly I had a great time playing this game, I just enjoy getting to play as spiderman, along with his rogues gallery…I also like the game has u team up with (besides the villains from the opening scene)

Lizard

Scorpion

Yet there is not a part of the Sam Rami Spiderman universe lol…also I forgot to mention that the secret character u get to unlock Harry Osborne just for beating the game…now my question is uh why? Why him? Why not Carnage? Makes sense with that ending teaser……I also love the way the locations look in this game….but seriously why not Carnage? Why Harry? Which leads me to my negatives

Negatives: so would make more sense for the game to pair u with Harry in the first level but nope instead the game partners u up with Prowler for some reason…no idk why either…

The fighting becomes way too repetitive, hey run over here fight big and small and medium enemies…ok run over there and fight more enemies, and so on and so on…also fight boss fights that always end with the same animation of Spiderman using his web to swing the mind control thing off the villain’s chest and slam it on the floor shattering it…..wow So thrilling, I just love seeing the same cut scene over and over again lol…

I take issue with the fact that u don’t get to swing around as Spiderman, really all u can do with him is run, walk, shoot webs, slam enemies on the floor, punch them, do a quick swing kick and that’s it…I guess it wouldn’t be fair for player 2…they’d be stuck way behind, especially since this is a 2 player co-op game ur supposed to play with ur friends….so I can’t fully blame them here, it’s to balance out the game…

So overall I’ll give this game a solid 8/10
