Spiderman 2 PS5: Let’s start off with the trailers shall we?

From Candyman to Final Destination, and finally to the streets (and skies) of New York as Venom, Tony Todd brought horror, charisma, and power to every role. The gaming world—and the world at large—lost a legend far too soon.

So for this review I’m gonna give a brief rundown of the plot, then I’ll mention the things that in my opinion worked and what didn’t, then I’ll talk about 2 key side quests that got me excited, then I’ll mention what they should have added and changed to this game…so let’s get started

The plot of this game is that both Miles and Peter leave during class while Peter is teaching a class, because Sandman is on the loose, he’s causing havoc…so they go and fight him..

After defeating him and learning how to fight because this works as a tutorial as well….u get him sent him back to prison, both Spidermen say we can help u if u want…and he leaves them on a warning he says “who will protect u when they come?”…..well that ominous…

Also this leads to side quests where u locate crystal shards of Sandman located around the city, each crystal gives some insight into Sandman…1 of then reveals that Kraven was hunting down Sandman that’s why he was terrified…that’s who he was trying to warn both Spidermen about, ohhu snap…I’ll get to who’s Kraven in a second…

So after u collect all shards u call up Sandman, he apologizes for the havoc he caused and asks if u can build a small statue of him out of the crystals and leave it at his daughter’s home so she can remember him…so Spiderman does so, he also promises to get Sandman the best lawyer to help him, don’t know how he’s gonna do that when Peter is basically always broke…

So he drops the statue off at his daughter’s house which is just sweet….so back to main story

Anyways, Peter loses his teaching job for just getting up and leaving during a class….yeah understandable, anyways the plot of the film kicks in when this hunter named Kraven the hunter and his gang of hunters come to New York City to hunt down a formidable opponent…why u may ask he’s doing this? Well glad yall ask….it’s because in this game Kraven is dying from terminal cancer…

He’s dying so he doesn’t want to die alone (even though he has a daughter and a son oh and a brother let’s not forget, but I’ll get to that later), in a hospital bed…which is understandable, who would really? Besides hospitals scare me….anyways he instead wants to die a warrior’s death, by finding someone who’s a formidable opponent to finally end his suffering, aka kill him…..yeah before this version of Kraven I’ve never really cared for Kraven, thought his whole gimmick was dumb, he’s a hunter and wants to prove to be the best hunter ever by killing everyone possible, then mounting their heads on the wall…..also he’s Russian if anyone is wondering, in case some yall don’t know who Kraven is or never heard of him..

BTW minor nitpick, so Kraven in this game has stage 3 terminal cancer…yeah want that to sink in yall head, stage 3 terminal cancer…and yet the guy is all beefed up, still has hair, and is moving around up the wazoo….uh sure, because having stage 3 terminal cancer is so well known for allowing its victims to still have hair on there head, face and chest still and be jacked up still…yep that totally checks out…u totally won’t be lying in bed dying away, plus being thiner….stage 3 cancer my ass…lolo

But this game made me care about this version of him, somehow Insomniac knew how to make Kraven an interesting villain, Anyways then Peter Parker’s long time friend Harry Osborne returns in his life, they both are long time childhood friends…they’ve known each other for along time, which I like this game doesn’t rely on us to feel something because we know the characters from other media, but instead they show us how close of friends they were especially at school, in a back flash game play scene…

It goes on for too long btw, like 20 min too long…anyways so we find out that Harry’s mother died, she died from some illness…Norman at the end of this 20 min section comes to tell Harry the bad news….btw this is what I like about Norman in this game series, he’s not a typical bad guy for say….no he’s just desperate to find a cure for his son, he doesn’t want his son to die…but the things he does to get to his goal harms everyone else, so to other people he is a bad person…which yes he is but he’s not doing things for his own selfless needs…he’s doing it for his son,

So anyways Kraven eventually comes to town and steals away 2 prisoners who were in the middle of transportation, Martin Lee aka Mr. Negative and Scorpion….btw Miles having to see Martin Lee loose out of his crate is making Miles feel lot of emotions…he’s unhappy at Mr. Negative for killing his father, yeah I can understand why he’s upset….

Anyway Kraven takes both of them to an island base he has…..he ends up hunting Scorpion, he injects Kraven but it does nothing…then Kraven kills Scorpion with his own tail, well so much for Scorpion…..anyways little later at a carnival that the gang is at including Miles, we see a reformed Quentin Beck aka Mysterio, he now works at a carnival…he’s working on a new fun house, well that’s sweet…Miles enters it but there’s some technical issues of course shocker, also Miles meets Harry, they do a hand shake…anyways during their fun time, which means u get to do all the rides at the carnival…The hunters come and attack…so both Spidermen get suited up, they take away Tombstone who’s also there who works now as a maintenance guy at the bumper cars…..

So what is this? A place for reformed criminals? Anyways the roller coaster gets attacked, it starts falling…Spiderman saves the people on board but some rubble almost falls on him but Harry comes in and uses his symbiote abilities…u heard that right he has the symbiote in him, and Peter takes his mask off in shock so now Harry knows Spiderman is Peter…now u would think both would argue over the 2 secrets they’ve kept from each other but nope there such good friends that Harry accepts it and so does Peter…heck Harry joins Peter on his next mission…

BTW there’s a side mission where Miles’s Spiderman goes to each of Quentin Becks illusion machines and helps him figure out the issues inside them….which does eventually lead to him fighting Mysterio in a giant orb, he thinks Beck has turned back evil but he eventually locates Beck tied up in a closet…it turns out it was his colleagues messing up with his tech…wow what a shocker…

BTW this is a nice time for me to bring up something, but in this game Peter is just a total douche nozzle to Miles, every time he calls Peter up Peter is like “ah sorry gotta go..talk next time”…it’s making Miles feel left out, in a way he feels he’s spending more time with Harry than him….more on that later. btw some of the other side missions suck in this game there a side mission where u, as Miles, help students at a school….one mission has u help a boy ask out his boyfriend to the prom…how riveting, another has u taking pictures of different angles of the school for 2 kids…how riveting….

I’ll get to the rest of the side quests later…for now Harry offers Peter a job with him at his new research place where they do science stuff, also Dr. Conners works there…in this version of Spiderman he used to be Lizard and now he had regrets being Lizard so he’s reformed as well…I mean that’s nice, Peter isn’t sure yet if he’s gonna join or not…besides he’s terrible at keeping jobs in this game apparently…also poor MJ she has to do all the work, she’s working for J Jonah Jameson, oh lovely….

She’s writing a story up for him involving Spiderman….she wants Peter to check it out first but of course at the moment he’s busy but promises to check it out before she publishes it…so far this story is seeming a bit jumbled isn’t it? Don’t worry it gets more jumbled….for u see there’s a side quest where Miles is asked by his uncle Aaron to locate his old Prowler hide outs for his secret stashes to return them to the people he stole from…for u see uncle Aaron wants to become a better person, heck moves into the apartment Miles and his mother are living in….above them I mean, not in their apartment room…

Near the end of that side quest Miles thinks Prowler I mean Aaron is planning on robbing the apartment because his last stash has a map of the layout of the apartment….but no, he’s so far off that apparently uncle Aaron was just wanting to move into the building and start a new normal life….u know reform himself…..awww that’s sweet….

Anyways as for Peter he does take Harry up on his offer, Harry convinces Peter with showing him the office space they both will be working in and Peter says “can u move my desk to the corner I think a lot better when I’m in the corner”…..so now they’re both happy….

Anyways so moving on a bit, Spiderman heads out to save Tombstone, Harry follows behind and he’s wearing his own super hero suit, it’s the Agent Venom Suit…which in the comics that symbiote outfit belonged to Flash Thompson….guess Insomniac really wanted to do something different here, I applaud them for that….so they successfully save Tombstone, later on MJ finds where Kraven is at which leads us into playing as her…side thing I want to mention they absolutely improved on her from the first game…where in the first game she’s defenseless and every time she gets caught she gives up…

In this game they give her a tazer gun…oh thank u the lord…but now this leads into 2 issues I have with the MJ missions

First issue: since her stun gun is so powerful for some reason, it can knockout enemies in 1 shock or 2….which also makes the hunters look inept and pathetic, keep in mind these guys are supposed to be the best of the best hunters there are…they’ve hunted down tons of foes with Kraven the Hunter….yet these men are getting defeated by a normal average height journalist with a stun gun….

Ok I get it u wanted to make MJ seem capable of fighting on her own, so I applaud u for that…but it shouldn’t have to be at the expense of making the bad guys look inept and dumb, thats when u kinda fail..

2. Get this so somehow In this game MJ can take out enemies including big bulky enemies within 2 shots of her stun gun…yet Miles and Peter who btw each have super strength, take about like 20 to 25 hits to big enemies and like 10 to 12 hits to normal enemies before they are down….yeah try making sense of that, the producers did respond by saying yeah we made MJ stronger….so what…

I mean fair enough, so anyways she reaches Conners, tries to break him out (oh right they also have Conners, Kraven and his men have been busy) but Kraven enters the cell, MJ tried to plead saying he’s a good man…and what Kraven says brought chills down my spine, he says “there is no good men..only good hunt”….and he pulls and injection out and turns Conners into the Lizard…

BTW side rant… while here if u sneak around u will see on a few desks video recordings of Kraven and left over armor from people he killed, so he killed off as well Vulture, who he says I almost thought I wouldn’t be able to kill him, since he could fly..but no, not even that could save him…I clipped his wings….he killed Electro, who he basically insults and says he was a waste of my time, he was immature…but his tech could be useful to my men….then we find out he killed Shocker, who he says I have some respect for this man..he actually fought for his life, this wasn’t a game to him. He took it seriously…

Well that’s the nicest thing Kraven has said, also guess that’s the end of the sinister 6…off screen keep in mind

So Harry and Peter show up, Connors transforms into the Lizard and runs off…Kraven fatality stabs Peter so now he’s dying, the symbiote latches onto Peter healing him and now he has the symbiote uh oh…so now his strength has doubled so he takes down the rest of Kraven’s men…btw Kraven seems impressed and now want to hunt down the spider…

So basically the next middle act of this game becomes a we need to find Conners and cure him, then have Conners take this thing off me to return to u Harry because this thing won’t come off me…all while Harry is falling back into dying mode because without the symbiote his health fails him, so now he has to use a cane…..

So both Miles and Peter locate Conners getting chased by the hunter’s….Miles now for the first time sees Peter in the black suit, he’s a bir iffy on it…but at same time thinks it’s cool, so they chose down the hunter’s chasing down Conners on the river side, under a bridge…..at the end of the chase Conners goes into the sewers, Peter saves a civilian from getting squashed, but usually Peter asks if the civilian is OK but he doesn’t which Miles notices and seems confused….

Then we get the famous line from the game play trailer, Miles hands Peter a tracking chip to track Conners and

Miles: Let’s go get him before he gets too far

Peter: no, he’s mine

Miles: u sure? He’s got big teeth?

Peter: so do I (swings away then web glides away)

Ganke Lee: um he’s not usually like this is he?

Miles: no, he’s never like this

So eventually Peter locates Conners and cures him, after a long chase downtown….he then takes him to his lab, and Connors reveals that the thing is an alien called the symbiote and they need to take it off and destroy it…he pulls out the space shard the alien came out of, bit of the symbiote attaches to it causing a back flash scene to happen of showing how Conners lost his arm…apparently he was there at the crash and the symbiote tried attaching to him but his men shoots Conners arm off…ok I like how they try to attach all this together…good job…

Anyway Peter gets mad when he says we need to destroy it, and he says destroy us? Oh no no when u get to the point u hear Peter say destroy us….u know just how far gone he is with that parasite in him….he said this suit making him better than ever, yada yada and all that…then he leaves….btw at this point Peter’s black suit looks more disgusting, and alien like u can see thicker black veins, angrier looking eyes…he’s looking less human….

Also I did this side quest I’m about to mention shortly after this part but u can do it whenever, but there’s a side quest where there’s an old blind lady u find on her porch, she wants a medical dog at her side, the only issue is she’s allergic to dogs…uh oh….also there’s this creature that’s been going in and out of the area…

So Peter hunts it down and it turns out it’s one of Kravens robotic dogs…it has an arrow in its side….awww, Ganke Lee helps reprogram the dog and makes him and obedient loyal dog…well that’s strange, Peter takes the arrow out of the poor dog, Ganke Lee goes through the dogs memories and finds out that it’s owner got mad at it’s robotic dog for being useless and he shot thr dog…..ughhh look I know it’s a robot and a video game but still, that’s just awful…

So the robot runs off to go fight its previous owner, spiderman follows along and helps the dog take out its previous owner…….then u take the dog back to the old lady tell her it’s a metal dog, she’s now happy she has a dog who’s she’s not allergic too…awww that’s sweet, good job Spiderman….

Anyways back to main story, so one night Peter comes home and sleeps. And MJ is about to publish her story which J Jonah Jameson is impressed by her work, the hunter’s come and attack their home…MJ has to sneak around the defeat the hunter’s but then things become creepy Peter comes out with the symbiote fully taken over his mind and asleep at the same time so he has no idea what’s going on…he’s being used as a puppet at the moment, he heads down to down town tunnel during this rainy weather…

MJ asks Miles to met her there, they get there defeat some hunter’s, MJ goes into the tunnels…has Miles block off the end with rubble, she enters tries to find Peter and try to reason with him, but this has become a horror game at this point….ur going through small corridors in a dark place while Peter is lurking in the dark, sometimes jumping out at u….and MJ has to use her stun gun on him. Jeepers…

She knocks him to the floor, his mask pulls back and reveals Peter been asleep this entire time….uhhhhh, and it gets worse…..

Miles gets kidnapped by the hunter’s and gets taken to their island to fight Martin Lee, after Miles defeats Martin he tells him once u get out go find Spiderman…he tosses Martin Lee out the building and he leaves to go find Spiderman….now I love that Martin Lee is trying to do better, he didn’t have to go find Spiderman after he escaped but he does anyways…

So back to Peter he wakes up on a random bench, Mile’s mom calls him

On the way to her he starts complaining that blah blah everyone wants me to fix there problems, when they should do it on there own….and Kraven ugh that Kraven he! (Voice in his head, eat Kraven!) Ohhhhhhh Jesus

Anyways he shows up to Miles mom at her office, she demands that he goes and saves her son now….he looks up to Peter and all that….Peter listens, but first he heads to MJ and Harry, a Harry who’s now fed up that Peter has the symbiote not him….and Peter lashes out on both of them, and leaves the room….

Peter goes down to the lab to see Mr. Osborne, he’s trying to find any other cure for Harry but it’s not working…..Osborne hugs Peter saying u were always a great friend to Harry…thank u….Harry overhears this heads back up slams his cane at the window and screams…he tells MJ to get out! I told u to get out!….wow where’s this anger coming from? He’s angry at Peter for getting a hug from his dad because his dad said Peter been a great friend to Harry? Either that or this is all poorly executed and rushed, just so we get to the third act…

Anyway Mr. Martin locates spiderman by luring him to where Martin Lee use to work at with aunt May…he tells Spiderman where Miles is, and he says u should be proud of him he reminds me of u…..so Peter goes to the island to save Miles, once he gets there he fights Kraven which leads to this battle where Kraven reveals a giant bell because there encounter from earlier which i forgot to mention, in a church, Kraven finds out the black suit weakness is loud noise…so u have to stop the bell from ringing..

So anyways Spiderman uses his tendrils to lift up Kraven and start choking him…he says kill me or I kill u…Spiderman says I will! And he says do it then!…but Miles comes in tells Peter not to, Kraven bites a tendril and escapes…..I thought he wanted to die?
Anyways now things become interesting because Peter becomes a boss fight, that’s right u play as Miles who fights Peter….while Peter is insulting Miles saying I’m the better Spiderman then u! I don’t need saving! I’m the one who saves people! Not u! Me!!….jeepers, Miles eventually gets Peter to yank the symbiote off of him..u know help motivate him to get rid of his addiction…they put it in a cannister…

Peter apologies to Miles and Peter heads to Oscorp tower to meet Connors, he calls up MJ and apologizes to her….she says I’m just glad ur back, she tells him she posted the story and all that…Peter makes it to the tower where Harry is there, Peter doesn’t want to give it to Harry understandable…Harry starts attacking Peter saying I saved ur life! Do u want me to die!? Then he hits the cannister with the cane which causes it to break and the symbiote latches onto Harry…

Ok hold on a moment how flimsy was that glass? What was it made of? So Harry becomes Venom…oh joy who couldn’t have seen that coming, and this leads to a great moment where u get to play as freaking Venom and run through Oscorp, where u kill the guards and u make it to Time Square where Kraven corners u…u fight Kraven in a final battle which ends with Venom throwing Kraven on top of a building into a giant TV…

Then Venom looks at Kraven and Kraven who’s now kneeling on the floor says thank u..then Venom picks up Kraven and bites his head off….yikes where was this Venom when Sony rebooted Venom in movie form? This Venom is brutal…so now Harry is in shock he goes and visits his mom’s grave and asks what has he done..but who cares he gets over it quickly then infects the entire city in symbiote tendrils….pfft story telling? Whats that?

Now this is the perfect time for me to bring up 2 side quests I didn’t bring up earlier but will bring up now because these 2 side quests are the best..

So in one side quest called the Flame, u Peter find this mysterious vigilante named Wraith, aka Yuri Watanabe…that cop lady friend of Spiderman from the first game, well now she’s become a vigilante who is basically judge jury and executioner….which is too much power for one person, she and Spiderman reluctantly team up to take down this cult group called the Flame….u eventually find out who’s in charge, it’s this ginger haired, bearded guy wearing a Hawaiin shirt. Named The Flame, hmmmmm wonder who this could be? Hmmmmm

Anyways later Spiderman saves The Flame from being executed by Yuri, what does Spiderman get in return? Easy they swing outside where The Flame Blows up the bundling then Spiderman and Yuri fight each other again, then a vehicle comes and runs over Spiderman….some of The Flame’s men come out of the vehicle to help their leader, they open up a crashed train which has a symbiote in a cannister….

He holds it in his hand and it starts turning red….Peter puts together this is what he was after the whole time? And the guy is also pouring gasoline on top of Spiderman….then he says the Flame shall bring truth, judgment and Carnage….eh eh he said the line…

Then he walks away takes a lighter out and sets Peter on fire…he escapes and Yuri saves peter…

So later Yuri calls up Peter and tells him she’s gonna keep searching for the Flame by using his aliases…some of them being the Flame or Cletus Kasady….I knew it! I knew it was Cletus…I mean seriously who else in the Spiderman universe is a psycho killer who has ginger hair and wears a Hawaiin shirt? No seriously? Idk how this was a plot twist, I saw this coming from a mile away as soon as he appeared on screen….but I cannot lie, I still got excited hearing the name and tease for Carnage for another time…

BTW, I must bring up the elephant in the room, Yuri Watanabe. Dear lord, did they butcher this character…so in the first game, Spiderman 1 DLC, The City That Never Sleeps, Yuri Watanabe turns to the dark side. In an optional side quest, you find out she’s been killing people in the name of justice, then she leaves notes for Spiderman telling him how she killed people and that she loved it…She is now sounding like she’s going to be like, the next Jack The Ripper…..honestly I’m digging it let’s see where this goes…

Oh, wait, nowhere, because in Spiderman 2 they retcon her to make her into an antihero….huh, that really comes off as the devs thinking maybe we went a bit too far with Yuri Watanabe. We might need to tone back on her…..yeah sorry, that’s not good storytelling, you can’t just set her up to be a villain and then just be like ah nah nevermind she’s not a villain. No she’s an antihero…she’s been all along…uh huh bullshite.

Now the other side quest that got me excited is, so there’s these side quests where u take down all of Kravens hunters watch towers, where u get recordings of dialog from Kraven, u find out that Kraven has a son and daughter…u find out that his own daughter killed their mom, because she got in the way…wow such a caring family they are…it’s just so obvious lolo

Anyways after u do those missions u locate a safe house u enter, where this voice comes over saying ag Kraven after all this time, welcome back…yeah no it’s not Kraven sorry…anyways Spiderman locates a secret door to a basement and here’s the plot twist, this isn’t Kraven’s house or any of his kids’ house, nope this is his brother’s house…the Chameleon’s house….dunn dunn dunn, basically the Chameleon was Spiderman’s first ever villain he fought in the comics, his abilities is he can wear any mask and become said person….we get to see his mask room, And a head stand display….

Spiderman leaves the building he swings out and as he’s swinging we see this Asian man on another building looking at Spiderman, he gets up and says don’t worry brother, I’ll do what u couldn’t….then his skin kinda glitches a bit….eeeeekkk it’s the Chameleon….here’s the clip

So anyways back to main story, I just wanted to mention those 2 reveals that got me all giddy…btw side rant I realized something, why’s it when Peter got infected with the symbiote his personality changed? Bur yet Harry had it on longer and it didn’t affect his personality? Huh? Also remember how I said Peter was already being a douche nozzle to Miles? Yeah that’s another thing I don’t like, he’s just neglecting Miles…even though Miles helps him out…he’s barley grateful to Miles in this game…jeepers and this is before he gets the symbiote on him….

So now we’re in the 3rd act and this My friends is where I started to check out of this game….wanna know why?…because the rest of the third act is just a watered down version of an already great Spiderman game called “Spiderman Web of Shadows”…for u see Venom’s plan in that game was to infect the world, changing everyone into symbiotes as well….what’s Venom’s plan here? Easy, manipulate Harry into believing they’re gonna cure the world but in reality Venom is just using him to infect the entire world and turn everyone into symbiotes like him….hmm such original story telling…

Anyways Harry shows up to MJs house, Peter shows up Harry turns back into Venom…he infects MJ turns her into Screetch….u end up fighting MJ…oh good what’s this the umpteenth bad guy this game introduces? Anyways after u free MJ, she calls up J Jonah Jameson and says I quit….yayay

Anyways both Miles and Martin Lee enter Peter’s mind because there’s a piece of the symbiote left inside him, and he’s unconscious after an encounter with some the symbiotes …they locate Peter’s most inner demons thata causing him lots of trauma, spoiler alert it revolves around aunt May being dead…so they get to the root of the problem and get rid of the symbiote and now Peter wakes up with a new suit, the anti Venom suit….oh lovely shoe horning in that story as well I sew?

Anyways Martin leaves and says he’s gonna reform his life, take a page out of both Spiderman books…and Peter says wow a reformed villain, can’t say I did that before…Peter what do u mean? There were 3 villains in this game u delt with before that are now reformed….anyways

So the trio come up with a plan to save the city and all that, this gives us 2 more side quests throughout the city to do, where u Spiderman get to go destroy Venom hive nests and these were the most tedious where u have to defend a bomb before it explodes the heart of the nest for like 2 to 3 min each…while ur being attacked by symbiotes and u gotta prevent the symbiotes from attacking the bomb….wow So thrilling….

BTW perfect time for me to bring up but the voice actor of Venom in this game (Tony Todd himself) yes Candyman voices Venom in this game, and he was so underutilized in this game…get this according to him they filmed 100% of dialog for Venom and cut out 90% of said dialog then only used 10% of the dialog…..90% of dialog cut? Jeepers, I’ve heard of editing and cutting out things but this is a bit much…

Which also brings me to my other issues, it seems Insomniac doesn’t understand what makes Venom well Venom and what makes him intimidating and cool….see what makes Venom/Eddie cool is that basically Venom/Eddie and Spiderman/Peter are 2 sides of the same coin….Peter is a successful photographer who is a superhero….while Eddie Brock is a run of the mill photographer who’s down on his luck, who feels Peter took everything from him…while the symbiote Venom feels hatred towards spiderman for not accepting him…..so he takes and keeps the spider symbol out of spite basically….

Venom and Eddie Brock basically team up because they have a common enemy. Also there’s stories in the comics where he’s an anti hero…but when he’s a villian he’s horrifying, he eats heads and takes names basically…while in this game we get none of that, instead of Eddie its now Harry….and instead of giving us a good reason why Harry is mad at Peter we instead get a rushed last min decision version…and instead of in depth characterized Venom…what we get is a 1 note generic monster that utters 3 sentences…2 of which consists of

We are Venom

Glad ur here Peter

Were gonna cure this world

There just summarized up his amount of dialog in this game, u try telling me that makes him sound like a fully fleshed out characterized version of Venom? And not just monster of the week one generic noted baddie?

Moving on so both Peter and Miles suit up and sighhh Miles comes out with a new suit on, and Spiderman says to Miles that’s not an alien is it? Which he says nah, I needed a Miles Morales original…ok few things come to mind

1. This outfit the hell were the devs thinking? It looks ugly, his new outfit has blue/white/red Addidas shoes on, with black pants and shirt….that so happens to have red on it as well, the spider symbol now goes down the sides of his arms and get this the colors of the spider symbol are light blue….looks more like he’s wearing toothpaste on him, he has a hoodie, but it’s down instead of up for some reason…and the top of his black mask is cut off and instead his hair is fully visible? 臘
Ok seriously who approved of this design?

2.  This I find funny uhh this suit is actually an Addidas collaboration, wow no shite….heck there selling similar clothing on their website, yeah sorry who’s gonna buy that ugly shirt and pants? Also an Addidas store is visible in this game, what did Addidas fund this game? Anyways what’s funny is that earlier in the game a civilian tells Miles’s Spiderman that he thinks he should do a collab with a company to make an outfit. And Miles says sorry Spiderman isn’t a sell out…

Hmmmmm really? Idk, seems like he’s a sellout to me…he’s wearing freaking Addidas shoes!!

3. What do u mean Miles Morales original? What wasn’t ur last outfit u have not a Miles Morales original? Yet in ur stand alone game u made that outfit to stick out from the default Spiderman to make a name for urself, Air go that is a Miles Morales original…bruh who wrote the script for this game?

So anyways final fight happens and guess who mainly fights Venom? Miles does…right because that just makes to much sense, no let’s not have Peter fight against Venom the entire time mainly because it’s Harry underneath and there both friends…no less have Miles fight Harry aka Venom because they oh so are jealous of each other 1 of the other being Peter’s friend…I mean couldn’t yall tell from the complex story telling of him shaking Harry’s hand once and interacting with Harry once….wow So fleshed out I can feel the weight between these 2, the tension is real…sighhh

Anyways so eventually Venom grows a pair of wings because hey look it’s the thing from the comics…yeah that thing he did the thing!!! So must mean good right? Wrong, it is cool though…so the fight ends with them deleating the symbiote and Harry almost dies…oh and all the symbiote in the city die off, everyone goes back to normal…how? Easy they use the Molecular machine that’s at Harry’s job building that’s now in ruins basically…

Guess that marks the end of Venom, he left this series as quickly as he was introduced…oh well. So Harry almost dies so Miles uses his electricity to revive him…Peter tells Harry he loves him, how sweet…they take him to an ambulance…Osborne shows up and for some reason gets mad at both Spidermen blaming them for the situation….for no reason because he asked Spiderman to get his son out of that symbiote and he’s now out…also he’s not dead either, he would have been but Miles revived him….

Is it just me or does this once again seem rushed? Almost like the developers were like hmmmm so how do we make it convincing that Mr. Osborne hates Spiderman in this game even though he hasn’t so far….idk who cares we just need to get from point A to point B, that’s all that matters…..brilliant, write up a script and leave it on my desk in the morning….

So anyways Harry is now in a coma…Osborne is mad, he calls up and asks for the serum…guess that’s teasing Green Goblin next game? Idk, anyways game ends with Peter wanting to take a break from being Spiderman and living a life with MJ….together they’re gonna rebuild the life foundation that Harry started, to make the world better…so Miles is the new Spiderman, he says he got this and he swings off…

Also there’s a mid credit scene of Osborne visiting Doc Oc in prison, he asks what he’s doing and he says “writing the final chapter”….idk what that means, so anyways time to get into positive and negative

Postives: the game looks so gorgeous, I love they added web swinging, they improved on the Spiderman swinging by adding more abilities. Love that u can use the black suit in free roam after the story, heck u can pick from different symbiote suits including the Sam Rami Spiderman suit…..love that u can switch in and out of Miles in free roam, so u get to play as 2 Spidermen…I like there’s double the amount of suits to unlock, roughly 125 suits…well technically 75 but each with edit styles

I like that 2 specific side quests that hint towards Cletus Kasady and Chameleon…those got me hyped, the game still makes u feel like Spiderman just like the first game….

Negatives: the story somehow felt bloated and yet underdeveloped at the same time…don’t know how that’s possible, venom was a wasted potential…what the devs said about we wanted to do something original, just more came off as they took ideas from already existing comics and an already existing games…I mean Harry becoming Venom is not breaking new grounds…there are comics where he does become Venom…the symbiote changes hosts in the comics it’s not always Eddie….do the devs not know that?

Where the Mechanics Fell Apart

One of the absolute joys of Spider-Man (2018) was unlocking a new suit and getting a special power baked into it. Each one felt like more than just a skin — it gave you a fresh toy to play with, whether it was bulletproof armor, extra shockwaves, or my personal favorite, Web Blossom clearing out a whole mob of thugs in seconds. It wasn’t just cosmetic, it was gameplay evolution.

Fast forward to Spider-Man 2? That system is gone. Every suit is just… a suit. No powers, no unique abilities, nothing to experiment with. You’re grinding tokens for fancy new cosmetics, but the gameplay doesn’t change a bit.

And it doesn’t stop there. Remember the gadget wheel from the first game — all the fun tech Peter cooked up that let you experiment mid-combat? That’s been gutted too. Instead of a wide variety, you’re stuck with four gadgets total. Four. Hand-picked, simplified, and shared between both Spider-Men. It’s restrictive and makes combat feel same-y way too quickly.

It’s like Insomniac forgot the fun of being Spider-Man isn’t just swinging — it’s mixing and matching, testing new powers, pulling off creative combos. Here, they’ve stripped the toolbox down so far it feels more like you’re on rails than actually free to play your way.

The ending made me just want to go play an already existing better Spiderman game, mainly because the ending is just a watered down version of that game, some the side quests seemed repetitive and tedious…unlocking the suits in this game seemed to be easier this time around, where in the first game it did seem challenging sometimes I mean u needed specific tokens to unlock the suits u unlocked and u only get a specific amount of tokens if u get 100% perfection on all side gigs including crime takedowns…

Here in this game, missing out on tokens? What’s that don’t worry u will have enough tokens up the wazoo that u won’t even know what to do with them..heck even after u get to 100% in the game and u uncorked and upgraded everything u can still get points u can build them up? Why? Why not!! That’s why!!

Also I found their attempt at keeping Cletus Kasady’s identity a secret to have been in vain, because really who u fooling out of the Spiderman fans? Like I said once and will say it again, how many killers are they’re in the Spiderman universe that are psychopaths who have ginger hair and wears a Hawaiin shirt?

Also the motivation for why Harry hates Peter and why Norman hates Spiderman felt rushed and non- existent….also I don’t like that most of the sinister 6 been killed off, especially off screen…so we can’t even see it happen

So overall I’d say not a perfect game, doesn’t really hold up compared to the first game…which is a bummer, don’t get me wrong I love playing in free roam, but the story kinda felt underwhelming…about the only thing I loved through and though was the Kraven stuff…they did Kraven the hunter justice, I for the first time felt invested in that character…I still can’t wait for a Spiderman 3, see which villains Insomniac brings to us…

So I’ll give this game a solid ehhh 7/10 and that’s me being kind….well hope yall enjoyed this review, if u have a ps5 and want to play this game…I will still recommend it especially if ur a Spiderman fan
