The Last of Us HBO series

The Last of Us HBO series:

So where do I begin with this show well first before anyone thinks oh what’s the point of making a TV show about this game? Since already the game feels like ur experiencing an immersive film…..well, I just want to say that this show has tons of differences from the game, like a lot of differences…..and that’s not a bad thing…..but before I get any further here’s the trailer enjoy….

So let’s begin shall we? So I wanna mention we all know the game by now that’s obvious….so I feel like I need to go into depth in each episode……so instead I’ll give my 2 thoughts on Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie…..plus I’ll be listing the extra stuff the showrunners put in this show…..yeah this show isn’t a carbon copy of the game….in fact it’s down right different……lets get into the differences

Here’s a major difference, they decided to cut out the spores from the game, in the game in specific areas Joel had to put a mask on to not get infected.

While Ellie can walk right through the spores because she’s immune, in the show however they opted to remove that as a whole.

So the beginning of the first episode is different….in the game what we see is Joel’s daughter waking up at night trying to find her dad but she cant…..the news channel is playing warning people of infected, anyways Joel comes in and kills there neighbors who are running at them for no reason…..then they leave the house with his brother they get into a car and ride away throw the town which they see people running around panicking, fires starting, all that u know the normal apocalyptic situation…..then they do run on foot and bump into a military guy who shoots Joel’s daughter and she dies in his arms

Now the way the show portrays that is well we end up focusing on 20 min of what Joel’s daughters life was like before the apocalypse started…. we see her go to school, we see some subtle hints to the unknown virus happening very subtle hints which is clever……they show a glimpse of a sign saying signs of the new infection is ticks and coughing……which then we hear 1 kid cough in class and see another kid having a hand spasm…..ohh yeah no those kids are goners there’s no hope…..abandon all hope….anyways we know how the rest of the beginning plays out it goes exactly like the game, yeah we first get extra footage then we get the scenes from the games which I do like because it’s a sign of a good video game adaptation….it sticks close enough to the game but also doesn’t stick fully to the source material and does its own thing to stick out on its own….

There’s some other minor changes, 1 of which made people say what the F**k…..so the third episode differs so far from the game it’s not possible to compare……but I’ll do it anyways, so remember in the game Joel and Ellie run into a mad man named Bill who’s kinda lost his mind? He lives in an abandoned town where he placed traps everywhere also the game only hints at him being gay and having a guy in his life? Well none of the Joel and Ellie and Bill encounter happens in the show instead what we get is a nearly 1 and a half hour episode of a back story on how Bill and his boyfriend named Frank met

So Bill encounters Frank by well his trap going off whwre he sees Jim in a hole he created that’s his trap….which then Frank convinces Bill to let him out then he brings him inside after refusing to let Frank in to eat a meal because he says if I did that and let u go there be alot of people coming here expecting food like this is an Arby’s….lolo….but he allows Frank in which they eat then play some piano, then they have sex together awww so yeah they end up living together but at one point they both get into a fight because Frank wants to invite people over and decorate the place for guests but Bill doesn’t because he’s a paranoid conspiracy theorist……anyways they end up inviting Joel and Tess to dinner in the backyard this is when Joel and Bill become friends well I say friends I mean more work partners where they help each other out……btw if ur wondering do we get to see Ellie and Joel interact with Bill? Nope because we see Bill and Frank die happily together for u see Frank’s dying from cancer so Bill decides to poison their drinks that night after their last day together because he doesn’t want to live without Frank in his life…..then after dinner they go into the bedroom lock the doors and die in their beds that’s the last shot we see of them oh then the episode ends with Joel and Ellie coming but it’s to late both Bill and Frank are dead no we don’t see there corpses but the doors locked and there’s a note on the table where Bill says u can take whatever u want u and Tess can

Which hurts Joel because he misses Tess so he tells Ellie if we’re gonna continue then few things 1. U r not to bring uo Tess ever again and 2. U will do as I say exactly as I say…..so then they take Bills car and the final shot of the episode is of the camera zooming into the bedroom windows where we just get a silent somber ending and no we don’t see the corpses btw…..so yeah talk about major differences from the game

Another difference in the game is after Joel and Ellie witness and encounter Henry and Sam.

He’s feeling stress and has panic attacks to portray this, this isn’t s thing in the game. At this point in the game Joel is still a harder then nails type of guy, but in the show he’s a bit more vulnerable.

Also I do like how Henrey and Sam’s death fits into Joel and Ellie, now Joel is afraid of the fact he might not be able to protect Ellie, especially after seeing Henry lose Sam then off himself right after putting his infected brother down.

This also mirrors something similar to Joel, he said when his daughter died he did try to off himself but flinched and the bullet missed. Do yall see the parallels here?

Side note I do like how when Joel reunites with his brother and catches up with him.

When his brother tells Joel that he is in love and his new wife is pregnant, Joel can’t come to say congrats or accept his brother’s happiness, since Joel shoved away any emotional connection.

Yall want another example of differences from the game? Well remember the cannibals Ellie encounters later on? Well there he but they give them more depth…..also we see their leader is f**ked up, for example, a little girl asks him when can we burry her father who Joel killed he says it’s to snowy so after snow is gone but in secret he chopped up the dad and is gonna feed him in a bowl of soup to his group later……..barrrrffff, yeah thats fucked up…….

Also this version of David Is Fucked up, I’d u couldn’t tell already. But on top of him being a cannibal, him being a cult leader.

He’s also an abusive man, and he is ah, well I don’t want to trigger people with the word so I’ll say he uh has his way with younger people, yeah I already felt disgusted writing that down.

Hopefully y’all can read in between the lines.

but besides the small additional changes plus these 2 major changes I think the show stuck really close to the story of the game……I mean I don’t need to say how this ends because we all know how it does but in case some of yall don’t here’s a brief run down…..Joel gets Ellie to the Fire flies but unfortunately he starts getting an attachment to her after being distant away from her because he lost his daughter at the beginning of the apocalypse so he tries to get rid of his emotions anyways so he gets therr just to find out therr willing to let her die to find a cure for the world but Joel won’t have that so he slaughters them all and takes the unconscious Ellie away then when she wakes up later in a car with Joel he lies to her saying the Fire flies found outer immune people like u so they didn’t need u…..uh oh

So overall I actually really enjoyed the adaptation it’s faithful to the game, I had fun watching it unfortunately they announced a season 2 and it will adopt the second game so I ain’t watching that because I hate the second game so eh there’s that so I’ll give this show a solid 10/10 go watch it its on HBO Max soon to be called Max…dumb name if u ask me
